  1. +1 I can't remember the last time I saw a copy of TTA #4 in person, and I have never owned one.
  2. I just never get tired of looking at these pre-hero Marvel covers. I collect cover scans in addition to the actual books (about a 2 year project and I am up over 3,500 scans of high grade and rare books) and I "collected" all these scans for my project. Thanks for sharing them!
  3. Sheesh, holey is right! That is a crying shame! A few pages ago I mentioned what a tough book this was for me, and I still have a soft spot for TTA #2. Count yourself lucky that you found one!
  4. Not easy to find those early numbers in higher grades. I was interested, but not after it climbed above $500, and I too never expected it to climb that high. Did a boardie get it? I know that that is one of the few holes for Cheetah and Korvac Saga...
  5. I would have to agree. There was recently a thread on that and that was the general consensus. Something about all that yellow takes the stigma out of the bit of purple. And it is kind of ironic, as another poster in that thread pointed out, to ding a book for color touch when someone has taken a marker to the front cover to sign it... So, I'm thinking . . . we gotta have Stan "the Man" sign along the spines of our books. Yep, with a black sharpie on copies of ASM #28!
  6. Just got this back today, my first SS! (And first PLOD...)

  8. He's gripping the wall with his fingernails. When I first saw this cover I had the same reaction.
  9. Always tough to follow Cheetah, and that is a gorgeous #8. This is both my first signature series book and my first PLOD. I thought I would be more bothered by the purple stripe, but I actually really like the book. I'm starting to consider a low-mid grade SS run of ASMs to go alongside my 7.5 and up main run...
  10. That has always been one of my favorite covers!
  11. Bought 2 Marvel Masterworks books and they arrived quickly and packaged well. I'd definitely buy again!
  12. Thanks! She is a keeper (I mean the wife!), and that sketch will always be in my collection.
  13. No, some other sites extend an auction when late bids are placed but Clink has never done that. I have sniped many a Clink auction and it has never extended. I was protecting my "win" on a copy of #12 and made sure that my max bid was in just in case someone hit it again. Sorry for your loss, though. I really liked that 9.0.
  14. Just found this thread for the first time tonight and have really enjoyed thumbing through it. Sorry for my pictures, but these are the two pieces of OA currently decorating my office. I have several more, but these are the only two currently framed: MJ sketch by Romita Sr. that was my wedding present from my wife: Sal Buscema pinup from Spectacular Spidey #223 (people run hot and cold on his work, but I have always really liked it and have several pages of his):
  15. "Decent" indeed! I had never noticed those sorts of miscuts before (getting back to the #25) but it was recently pointed out to me on these boards that DD #7 has it commonly as well (narrower at the top, opposite from the ASM #25). I have a TOS #34 that has this as well, and it seems to be common to that book as well. It would be worthwhile to get a list of these things so we can all be more informed buyers.
  16. I posted my lone win when I first "won" it, and now that it is really mine I will list it again. I don't swim in the deep end of the pool like a lot of you big spenders, but I like VF range books with nice PQ just fine! I am with you... I have no desire to own books higher than VF...huge price premiums for minimal visual improvement... Yeah, my brother and I often talk about those several thousand dollar stress marks that drop a book from an obscenely high grade to just a super high grade. I would love to roll with the 9.6-9.4 ASM crowd, I'm not going to lie, but for my tax bracket I have no problem with pretty VF books. I'll always enjoy buying 3-4 pretty (and in my mind anyway VF is still high grade) books as opposed to stretching for one ultra high grade copy. But I don't begrudge others the option to buy those beauties if that is what they love, and I can live vicariously through my deeper pocketed bretheren on these boards!
  17. Sounds like a typo on the label. Checking GCD and AtlasTales, they both call it an August issue so unless there's something you know from reading your copy I would go with their information over CGCs. And CGC makes worse mistakes than this on labels. I just took a book for reslabbing when I was at WW Austin so a label mistake could be fixed. They had my TOS #99 labelled as a TTA #99, which would seem to be an easy thing to get right... Missing something as tiny as a pub date would be child's play.

  19. How much did the #14 bump up? The 9.2 #25 just jumped up about 33%, $300!
  20. The Northland copy of #2 got sniped. The 6.0 copy of #3 got hit too. Luckily for our boardie the #6 & 10 were safe. Mine just ended and I got to keep it too.
  21. I think I may call and ask for free shipping for all this extra stress, particularly if my book gets bumped.
  22. I've checked several of the key books in the auction and only a few of them have gotten bumped with 11/17 bids so far. A few more have been double-stacked by the high bidder trying to protect their "winnings". I have a feeling that we will be talking about these results and their fallout for quite a while. Edit added: How irritated are you right now if you were the "winner" of the highest ASM #2? That book has gone up $500 since it "closed" and ended nowhere near the time where all the problems began.
  23. I DID post my "new acquisition" only to find out that it wasn't really mine yet...
