  1. As far as I can tell it doesn't do anything in the way of a repair. I think it is bag tape that got stuck to the cover. I'm really considering having it removed if it wouldn't make this book a PLOD as I think I could get a bump of at least 2 points if not more on a resubmit sans tape.
  2. I just posted this book in the resto section to ask about tape removal (see back cover) and thought that since I scanned it in I ought to post it here as well. Great book, great cover, and not one you see every day.
  3. I sold some Amazings to Jeff and he paid very quickly and was easy to deal with!
  4. I think the annual came out between issues #16 and #17. Gobby is in #17 so they probably didn't want to use him twice in different stories so close to each other Maybe, but you had Kraven just introduced in #15 and the Sandman appears next in #18...
  5. Sending this beauty to get SS'd by Stan. I've owned it for about 20 years, and other than the chipping (and a 1" spine split) (and some light NBC wrinkles) it really presents well. I'll let you guys know what it comes back as. I also posted it in the "spare a grade" thread, but thought it deserved to go here too.
  6. Bought a TOS #71 off the boards that I was very happy with. Bob is a stand-up guy who stands behind his books all the way.
  7. Whoops. I read your sentence to mean your collection was raw except for slabbed copies of #18, 21, and 100. I'm very close on my run. Five more to go: #3-4; 8-9; and 14. Unless something strange happens, I'll be looking for very low grade copies of these (FR to GD range). Once I get these, I will seriously celebrate () because I had a complete set as a 25-year-old back in 1992 (#1-360 or so) but broke them up. After celebrating, I guess it is on to the Annuals though I too don't get too excited about them. I hope my OCD doesn't drag me into complete runs of those other titles you've mentioned, but I know myself well enough to say anything's possible. :: Although out of all of those, the Marvel Team-Up title would probably be first because I sure do remember those growing up. Nah, I have a few slabbed copies but they are definitely the minority in my run. I had a long hiatus in my collecting while I was in grad school, and really got back into comics in earnest in about 2005. Since that point I have filled in any holes in my original run with CGC'd books, so if you look at my registry you can pretty much tell what I was missing back then. My #1, 7, 20, 35, 54 & 118 were self-submissions after I joined, but the others were bought online or at shows. Good luck with the few that you need! #3 was an arch-nemesis for me, as was #4. My #4 was actually the first CGC book I bought after getting back into collecting. I've got a few low-graders I am planning to let go soon, but none that you need. I do have a really pretty raw #14 that looks easily VF but is trimmed, so if that is something that might interest you we could talk. Spidey is what got me into collecting, so that is why I worked to complete everything. I was reading it all back in the 80's-90's, and when I ran out of Amazings to buy at my LCS I bought back issues of the other titles. Back then most back issues were $1 so it was cheap to chase them. I am hoping to get a copy of every single Spidey appearance up to the reboot, and I am mostly down to searching for random guest appearances. Presently the oldest appearance I need is Strange Tales Annual #2, and I'll likely be waiting a while to get that as I would like an 8.0 and I'll need to save up...
  8. For me the joy stopped a couple of times. I quit all the Spidey titles cold turkey after the clone fiasco, so my ASM run ended in the early 400's (don't remember the issue exactly, but the one where they revealed that the wrong guy had been Spidey since the 70's) until the OCD kicked in about 2007 and I filled in the run up to #441. But I refuse to buy anything past #441 because the reboot really irritated me. And the fact that they reverted to the original numbering later just showed Marvel to be the hypocrites we knew they were all along. The only price variant I have is #155, which I got entirely by accident. I wouldn't mind filling in the others, but frankly I would rather spend my money on other books.
  9. I'd say that 75% of the pre-hero Marvels I have seen slabbed have Cream to Off-White pages (your results may vary). Pre-hero books are the only books that I don't sweat PQ, because they all seem to have the word Cream somewhere in the PQ line and if you pass up a nice copy just because of the PQ you could be waiting a loooong time to find another!
  10. So you have #1 to the present? Not quite, I'm missing those 3 I mentioned and am about to sell a few more of my lower graded books (#5, 11, 12 and maybe a few more) that I plan on upgrading anyway because I need to raise some cash. But I can say that at one time or another I have owned every ASM book from #1-441 and still own 99.5% of them. I just sold my low graded #18 & 21, and I had a low grade #100 that I sold a while back. I'm also complete on the original runs of Web, Spectacular, and adjectiveless (McFarlane), and damn close on Team-Up. Is your ASM run complete, cloudofwit?
  11. We recently had a long discussion on the Edenwald AF15 in the AF15 club if you're interested. I agree that this 39 is a gorgeous copy and would have bid for it if I had the funds. I really hope you get the 7.0 (or better) you're looking for on it. Good luck!
  12. I was looking for a Bronze Spidey club, found this thread, and thought it was time for a to revive some interest. I'll try to get a few of my books scanned in and posted soon. I'm complete in ASM, mostly raw, except for #18, 21, and 100 (and a few silly annuals, but I can't stand annuals and only buy them because I am an OCD completist).
  13. Picked these up in the Clink September auction. I got a really good deal on the #64, especially compared to the 9.0 in the same auction.
  14. Picked these underappreciated beauties up in the Clink auction last night.
  15. White pages, but really bad Marvel chipping... Yeah, that one chip is bad in particular but that price still seems awfully low.
  16. Hulk #1 in 4.0 for $2,700 in the September Clink auction! Market correction? http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAuctions%2Fsearch%2Easp%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dhulk%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item%5F857335&id=857335
  17. Welcome to the TOS club! You and I are back to back in the registry...very cool Are you on the hunt for the whole run? I have some under copies that might be for sale once I complete the run all slabbed. Thanks! Always nice to meet a neighbor. Yeah, I am working on the whole run, even the pre-hero stuff (another registry set). I'm shooting for above 6.0 in #1-38, whatever I can afford #39-60, and any grade starting with a 9 from #61-99. So depending on where your undercopies may fall in I would definitely be interested!
  18. From my look it was actually a fairly impressive run. Certainly better than much of my run, to be sure. I don't know about $85K as a group, but I would bet that he would total that much selling the books individually. It would be a lot more work, but ultimately it would net a lot more money.
  19. Welcome to the club good sir. Thanks! At the time this was the most I'd ever laid out on a collectible, but this purchase was the warm up for my ultimate grail the next summer, the AF 15. The 39 is high on my list of most prized non-Spidey books.
  20. I've had mine for about 2 years but just found the club. It's tough to follow the Kirby recreation, but here goes...
  21. I wouldn't guess that this is in CGC's interests either, and they keep the census...
  22. Lots of the Pre-Hero Marvels I have seen have goofy miscuts like that. TOS #34 is one in particular that I have seen a lot of miscuts like you describe for the #12.
