  1. Probably already called out but I'd add Dave Stevens, no question... While the subject matter was often adult orientated, the basic raw hand-skills and and composition are unbelievably good.. A flip through some of his sketch books and it becomes incredibly obvious.. his quick doodles are other artists finished work... It's a shame that he is really only associated with depictions of women; he was one of the most accomplished illustrators ever in comics. The Alex Ross before Alex Ross. And I give this praise having been a professional artist and art director for 20+ years in major companies and looking at a LOT of portfolios... on another note, and speaking of great artists.. these are awesome. (Apologies for the giant images..) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uknax7YsHrc/TeMEd29s0jI/AAAAAAAAII8/jYlCRYgDNDM/s1600/JamPiece1.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GqI_fGPmCCU/TeMEE1zbAOI/AAAAAAAAII0/kjcTxoGKq2Y/s1600/JamPiece2.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8uRYNLtz_aU/TeMEEqG9VBI/AAAAAAAAIIs/-9UXPilaOXY/s1600/JamPiece3.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UFS20T-gD28/TeMEEZ0gJ6I/AAAAAAAAIIk/mijFh4GbCOI/s1600/JamPiece4.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gjRHl0ZgYqI/TeMEEFJFP0I/AAAAAAAAIIc/YrOWJTHOvm4/s1600/JamPiece5.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4AMJTlATiOk/TeMED144k0I/AAAAAAAAIIU/GB2ssLPetjU/s1600/JamPiece6.jpg
  2. All you "I've never seen 2001" guys are in luck. It's being re-released. Nov. 28. New trailer is perfection...
  3. You guys getting glares/flares, try scanning with the lid open. It can help quite a bit.
  4. I can't believe I agree with Kav, but 2001 is light years beyond Planet of the Apes in the FX department. Apes had essential zero special effects. John Chambers won an Oscar for makeup, but that's definitely not the same things as special effects. 2001 considered a landmark achievement in special effects and won an Oscar.. unfortunately wrongly attributed to Kubrick instead of the real master, Douglass Trumbull.. It's also consistently if AFI's (and everyone else's) top 25 movies of all time. It is, frankly, a masterpiece. Kav's plot synopsis is correct for the most part; a little off in places. The story is very loosely based/inspired by Arthur C. Clarke's short story "The Sentinel". It's a very good read. Kubrik succinctly sums up 2001 as: Think of the "psychedelic part" at the end as very much akin to the wormhole travel in Contact.. except with FX from the 60's... It has nothing to do with drugs or weed or tripping or anything else people would like to believe.. Would you call that sequence boring in Contact? The aging forward and backward is a reflection that Bowman is seeing that time is not linear as human's understand it, but part of the same fabric as physical space.
  5. Dear Ridley Scott, Please stop destroying my childhood. -sl4ppy
  6. Tell it to the owners of FF #45. Oops! Yeah, that'd be correct.
  7. iirc, #46 is recognized as the first app.
  8. Jason Momoa to play Aquaman in Supes v Bats too. (officially out on this movie now). http://variety.com/2014/film/news/jason-momoa-to-play-aquaman-in-batman-v-superman-1201221554/
  9. Let the speculation begin!! http://collider.com/the-inhumans-movie-joe-robert-cole--script/ Anyone wanna buy a Fantastic Four #45??
  10. Finally saw this.. it was just okay. The heavy message and nonsensical situations were a bit much to overcome. Clearly Bong Joon-ho was more in love with his messages of the futility of revolutions, humans yearning to be controlled, and the adam & eve metephor at the end than really crafting a coherent movie. The first act had real promise and was setting up to be actually really good.. then it just goes off the rails into the absurdity department. Still, it was at least mildly fun with the added bonus of asking yourself "WTF did I just watch??" I still wonder why the train had to be moving.. why not just park it and use the engine to do something more useful with all that energy then hurtle a train around the planet. The fact that they were on a train lent no artistic device to the story, had no bearing on the message, etc. It was merely a gimmick. Not a fan of movies who insist on a basic premise that is completely and utterly illogical and so fallacious that no one would ever even attempt to undertake.
  11. Haven't seen it yet (but plan too) but my first question from the trailer is why not use the energy keeping the train moving to do something else more useful?
  12. This. Save up some money, find someone reliable and let them do it. this sounds good. I want a site that is easy to update and navigate. I am looking for a site so I can list raw books with scans. K.I.S.S. Why not start with Comic Collectorz web exporting tool. It automatically builds a site based on your collection and lets you list prices, notes, images, etc. It's pretty thorough an a very cheap and easy way to get started. It also meets your "easy to update and maintain" requirement
  13. A hell of a deal on a $2000 scanner... The ethernet connection card is a several hundred dollar option on it's own and isn't included OEM. (no, not my listing) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Epson-GT-15000-LARGE-Format-Color-Flatbed-Scanner-w-Power-Cord-USB-Connector-/221466176625?pt=US_Scanners&hash=item339069ac71
  14. Sadly I have this horrible disease where I don't ever sell of anything. I just accumulate ad infinitum.
  15. The entire market participates in this thread..
  16. Is the only difference the 75 cent price?
  17. And he still hasn't even seen it yet, folks. You clearly fail to see the purpose of the movie rating system. ...why am I not surprised. I don't need to see ANY PG-13 (or R) movie to know that it isn't for kids. That's why the rating system exists.
  18. I guess if your way of rationalizing a PG-13 (one tic from R) movie that sounds like it isn't very good is to call it a "kids movie", have at it.
  19. Um, it's not a kid's movie. It's PG-13. Haven't seen ASM2 yet, but there are PLENTY of "kids movies" that are actually legitimately good "adult" movies as well. Any of the Toy Story movies, for instance... Having the expectation that a movie could/should appeal to both is probably pretty normal and in fact pretty mainstream these days.
  20. Perhaps you became a better grader or learned to grade differently in those 13 years so as to align with CGC and make your customers happier (never over-grading)? Subconsciously or otherwise...
  21. Closing the lid so the background is white really helps the scanner get the correct color gamut and range for a more accurate image. That's why the inside of the lid is white. You also don't have to hold down or press the slab against the scanner; I can see your wrist tendons tensed. .
  22. Some interesting items.. (no, I'm not the seller and have no idea who is..) Probably old news here, but just in case. http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAuctions%2Fdefault%2Easp%3FFocused%3D1%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26pg%3D65%23Item_1010218&id=1010218 http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsearch%2Easp%3Fwhere%3Dsell%26title%3DDave%2BStevens%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26ItemType%3DCA&id=994917 http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsearch%2Easp%3Fwhere%3Dsell%26title%3DDave%2BStevens%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26ItemType%3DCA&id=989673
  23. BTW, hang on to these books.. A Nova movie is going to be teased in GOTG, fwiw; price inflation likely imminent.
  24. It's also my favorite book ever. (WTB 9.8, if you happen to have one. )
  25. Seller's a Boardie of the same name. Regardless of his presence, I for one sure hope his barometer of the market value of this book is accurate. I suspect I'm going to be disappointed.
