Did someone say Killing Joke. These are all foreign editions minus some rando US & foreign homage covers & the Mile High freebie. Couldn't fit all the US editions in the picture 🤣 US & Foreign editions total up to over 100 unique printings. I currently have in the 60ish range. Slowly clawing my way to having them all.

One day I'll overthrow whoever is king of the registry set for this book ❤️❤️

You'll need a 10.0 or 9.9 1st print to have a chance of taking the top spot.  I am currently in 2nd place, even though I have the most complete registry set.  I would also say there is closer to 200 different cover, US and Foreign, as there is a ton of Spanish and Mexican versions.  A lot of countries have multiple versions as well.

If you could send me a list of all the countries you have, I would appreciate the help.

Mine is most definitely red.  The 9th print is red with a 4.95 price, but my front text seems to be brighter.  Doesn’t look orange or pink, and no other colors are even close that I’ve seen listed.

I’m not saying it’s valuable or anything,  I’m just curious because this type of thing is usually well documented.

and I’m not seeing any 3.95 cover prices on your link or on key collector - only on my copy.

    9th print is the last printing that sold for $3.95.  10th and 11th were $4.95.  12th and 13th were $5.95 and 14th was $5.99.

Feel free to PM me if you want any more knowledge on The Killing Joke printings.  I like to think of myself as the resident psycho expert on this book

This is a 9th print, certainly. Congratulations, they've always demanded a surprisingly high price.

9th is arguably the hardest of the "numbered" printings, but the Book of the Month Club variant that looks like a 4th print from the front cover is a real ghost book.

I have seen many more 9th prints on E-Bay, than some of the other printings, such as 11th, 12th, 13th prints.  Looking at the census 9th print has more graded copies than the 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th.  Not certain that the 9th printing is any rarer or more valuable than some of the other printings.

    1 - 10,096 graded copies

    2 - 219 graded copies

    3 - 118 graded copies

    4 - 73 graded copies

    5 - 124 graded copies

    6 - 132 graded copies

    7 - 92 graded copies

    8 - 28 graded copies

    9 - 64 graded copies

    10 - 22 graded copies

    11 - 27 graded copies

    12 - 13 graded copies

    13 - 9 graded copies

    14 - 54 graded copies

  4. If he paid the seller with a check, he'll get the cashed check back (or can request a copy) and can see where the check was deposited and into what account.  I doubt the seller would take the check to one of those check cashing places, so, he probably put into his bank.

Also possible, if he cashed it at the bank the check was drawn on, they would have verified ID and have surveillance of the transaction..

But that was on 7/23/22.  Last sale of a 4.0 was on 7/26/22 for $5500, suggesting $6K for the higher-graded 4.5 that he traded for.  So $7K in smaller books for a $6K key.  Dealer has more stuff to sell to make it worthwhile for him, and you mostly used built up equity instead of cash to get a big key you wanted right now.  From what i have heard in these types of trades with a dealer, looks like you did pretty well.  (thumbsu

I just went off the latest GPA sale.  It can be a volatile market and GPA may not have recorded the sale you speak of.  Like I said it was not a bad deal and has potential to turn into a great deal.

  6. Based on last sale on GPA

    ff 4 - 4.5 - $5100

    IM 55 - 7.5 - $655
    FF 52 - 4.5 - $1100
    ASM 129 - 9.0 - $4050

    + $1200

Total of $7005 in trade plus cash.  Knowing that dealers won't give you full value for your trades, and his book was a bit over priced, I would say you didn't do too bad.  Not a great deal, but, we've all overpaid for a book at some point.

If he shows up in a movie, it could give the book a nice bump and could turn out to be a great deal for you.
