  1. I just realized that one of my copies is a 9.8 Australian Price Variant 9 ($1.80). I didn't even notice it until now. CGC doesn't even acknowledge it anywhere on the label. Weird... Anyone know about these?
  2. \ Sure they do.... As I was served at my front door from someone claiming the had "very important paperwork for me". It was back in 2008. I wasn't clear - my bad - anyone can have a suit brought against them - sorry to hear that it happened to you. What happened in that suit? The buyer had more legal resources than the seller. They settled. I was out of it because when I got the second chance offer, I was not aware of any prior contract. It was not a year. More like 7 months of BS. All kidding aside, the buyer believed they were his to the degree of filing a complaint with the Feds for art theft. They contacted me and I told them what happened after going through my own lawyer. They wanted no part of it after that. This just seemed so familiar it was creepy. I just realized it this morning while driving. In the end, the first wife took everything in the divorce anyway. ( I don't see a gun to head smiley face so assume I just put one here).

  4. The problem is that the seller did not give a reasonable effort into this statement (which he made of his own volition). Yes, he could have dropped the negotiation after the first PM exchange but he didn't. He could have dropped it after the 2nd PM exchange but he didn't. He dropped the negotiation (which he had committed to) as soon as someone else stepped up. That's like a slap in the face. Personally (and I'm not a lawyer so anyone involved with contract law can speak up although I think at least one lawyer chimed in) I think in a court of law you could actually show that the seller did not honour his stipulation to hold the book until they could try to find an agreement. And I agree, it was a learning experience. Contractual Interference. I was hit with a 750k suit for something similar way back. I took a second chance offer on EBay. The seller backed out of the original deal with the winner. I was hit with a suit naming myself and the seller as the defendants. In the end, the seller had to make both parties, including myself, whole. The basis of the suit was that I was aware of party 1 selling to party 2 and I interfered with the purchase by buying it from party 1. The price of the original item was 26k and was a collectable also.
  5. I figure it's easier to diminish and make fun of something I don't understand, than to educate myself in an attempt to understand it. I was in the MOMA and there is a large painting of nothing. Just an off white color. There is NOTHING on it! This piece is worth millions. I didn't even look at who painted it, but there were these "educated" people looking at it for an extended time. I don't get it.
  6. Someone just offered me full value on a trade-up. Let's see where it goes, but it would be a new record number for it. The fact someone was willing to pay, even in trade 35k shows the trend for this book. Update! They poofed into the darkness I haven't received a PM here from him in days. I'm not really into chasing people so I am looking at another book. The book was an 8.5 trade-up for my 7.5. It was originally an 8.0 old label pressed. The registration was off, but it was still a nice copy. Looking at the one I have, my registration is really nice holding the images side by side. It's an OCD and page color thing....

  8. I've put stuff on EBay and most buyers that I have dealt with on EBay are on this board too and usually contact me here. That's why you'll see stuff listed on EBay and then poof a few days later. I rather deal with someone here too, but EBay's reach is a lot more than here. Anyone looking for that book can figure out where to find me; they always have. I'm not trying to sell it here on this thread, but here is my copy (Photobucket did a number on it when compressing it):
  9. That's me. I like the book, but if someone wants it for that price they can have it. There are plenty more out there that I want to get. I was going to do a best offer, but I would get annoying emails after their 2k offers were auto-rejected. I put a trade list up there and EBay nuked it. Why, I don't know. Comics or currency they still get paid. I guess they are counting on the fees from Paypal which I would deter the buyer from using anyway since their protection goes out of the window once they pay for something over multiple 10k payments anyway.
  10. I am actually NOT surprised... This just supports what I have been saying for years. What are their standards?!?!? Just think about what happened: They grade a book (expensive one) 6.0 Blue. It passed through 3 expert graders hands. They grade the same book and it comes back 7.0 purple going through 3 expert hands (why the grade change? I thought these were experts) They look at the book again and verify that it’s a 7.0 purple restored (assuming 3 more hands) They re-grade the book as a 6.0 blue a month later going through 3 expert hands That’s potentially 12 experts looking at this book and all coming up with contradictory grades and restoration detection. Not to mention the additional scrutiny of having a re-check. Is this an isolated incident or the only one with a paper trail to date. It’s not like we’re paying $5 per book to get it graded either. They are charging substantial fees for their expertise. Don’t give me “it’s subjective”, if that were the case then PGX and Vault would then be on par with CGC after seeing this. Flat out: They cannot accurately detect trimming unless it’s blatant. If trimming is the only restoration they suspect, they need to pull out their rulers down to the mm and check it for the fees they charge. The micro-trimming fiasco was the first hint that there was a dead horse on the table. As far as the original poster, I think CGC owes him a check.
  11. Fast payment and a smooth transaction on a +1k book! Couldn’t have went better!
  12. I actually saw that when it was first listed. It had a buy it now of $2700 and I was so close to pulling the trigger. Then some guy placed a bid and the buy it now optioned disappeared . So it closed at $3K. That's a strong price. But who knows if it's because the market is picking up on SC4's, or just lower grade SC4's, or if there was a pent up demand for any decent copy since one hasn't been auctioned with no reserve in awhile? Either way, it's still the rarest of the major silver age keys in a blue label (only 198??, that's rarer than some GA keys even!!), and with the Flash getting another shot at TV/movies, the next 12-36 months should be good for this book. -J. I can't gauge where the Flash is going. I picked up a SC4 for around double its GPA from the last sale. That one is going up fast. Where the ceiling is, I have no idea. I wanted one, now I have it. The only reason why I was so aggressive and overpaid is because I have a 105 and a 123. At the time there were no 8's to be found that were close to GPA 27k average and I would love to know where those sales materialized. The 105 and the 123 were soft (around 20%) compared to what they should have sold for, but the SC4 is defying gravity. We have a boardie who has turned down offers of his SC4 7.5 for 25k, then we had another boardie list his for 36k in 8 and no one knows what it eventually sold for. These are record prices. One was listed on EBay in 8 and it failed to sell. The listing poofed. I think it only went into the low 20k area. It had cream pages and didn't look like an 8, but CGC said it was. Is it the movie run up? I've become weary of any DC movie speculation. I've never really noticed TV shows driving up prices that much or even at all. When people talk about SC4 they are referring to a new era of comics being made with its launch. Up there with FF1 and AF15. CGC says they are scarce, but I always assume that any book has only a third of its copies graded. A lot of old timers want nothing to do with CGC and don't want a bunch of kids (age comparatively) telling them what their book is. I don't mind if it skyrockets. I'm will probably never sell it. Up or down it's in my collection. Everyone is right. Why the sudden interest in it?
  13. At some point sanity should kick in. I have a number of first appearances, Riddler, Scarecrow, etc in uber high grade. What I learned is that I could never sell them for what I paid and when and if one came up again at auction, even a higher grade or better page color, somehow I paid way too much. When chum like this hits the water, people take it personal and they lose even when they win. I'll take a shot at it, but I'm going to keep my head.
  14. Thanks guys! I have the letter, so I taped it to the back of the frame so I will not lose it.
  15. Finally.... One weird thing. I got a letter from Heritage saying this was part of the Thompson collection, but is not a CGC pedigree. Is the letter worth the paper it's written on? It's either part of it or not??!? As far as CGC, no.... As far as Heritage, they were the owners of this copy.
  16. Super smooth transaction on a high priced book!!! A+ Canadian!
  17. It's a $1200 book. Rare, first issue with a low run, kicked off by the series, will outlast the series, you will have zombie fans and have had hardcore zombie fans since 1968, plus you have people that paid too much to let it go for pennies and these holdouts will sustain a higher price than if it were in free fall. There will always be a demand for it.
  18. Air.... Seriously. The odor will fade. Moth balls are very detectable by the nose. The odor will fade over time.
  19. Seriously.... Ask Price: $47,500 That's a HUGE jump from an 7, 8 to an 8.5. A scary jump. Based on hype from a movie slated for 2017. Great book, and it was still a great book before 2011/2012. Guys, we've seen books rocket on the hype and dump on the news. Tread carefully.
  20. Is the owner of that book on these boards?
  21. Disney= See movie and buy Blu-Ray Fox= Download then delete
  22. yup, it's a good price for this book, I don't think we'll see one selling for less than that again. In 10 years we'll see it well above that as long as the population doesn't grow by many more. At that point it'll be a 40 year old book! Once all the 9.8's have been bought (from those who are submitting them) and stashed away in private collections we'll see the demand go up. There's definitely more of a market for the lower grades at this time and even those will have nowhere to go but up. I agree. That's why I had to grab it when the original buyer wanted it shipped to Canada using some weird description. However, for the right price I would let it go. I'm not pushing a sales thread, but some people may love this more than I do. Other than this copy, the other having no CGC#, this is the only one in 9.8 that has been floating around on the open market since 2011 that I have come across. . I'm not understanding your post. Did you buy this one on eBay after the original buyer had a problem? (This is the CGC serial # from the eBay auction that ended at 15K, but the winning bidder doesn't match your eBay name.) Do you own a different CGC 9.8? Or this one? Just trying to get it right, since I'd love to add you to the TMNT #1 club! (thumbs u The seller had a problem with the original buyer and the seller lives about an hour from me so I bought it !!!! My wife once again is very confused an annoyed that a comic with Turtles cost XYZ. When I got home it hit me that it doesn't fit my Sam's Frames so I ordered a CGC Magazine frame. I own this now!
