  5. Getting this sales thread back going again. Have another baby due any day and a grail that needs to be paid for.
  6. Up next, a pair of low grade reader, logo-stripped Hawkman cover Flashes: FLASH #15 - LOGO STRIPPED BUT TIGHT and COMPLETE FLASH #79 - COMPLETE, SMALL PIECE OUT OF BACK COVER AND SOME BACK COVER CHIPPING PRICE: $170 for the pair
  7. Changed the thread title now that the Pep #24 is sold. I'm also going to be listing a bunch more low grade GA over the course of the week, so I'll just keep this thread going.
  8. JUGHEAD #2 1.0 FAIR + FREEBIE JUGHEAD #5 (1st Midge) Reader copy of Jughead #2. Complete. Centerfold detached. Wear consistent with 1.0 grade. Also includes freebie copy of Jughead #5 -- .5 (Incomplete - Missing Centerfold) Rough. PRICE: $50
  9. PEP COMICS #24 (3rd Archie) - .5 POOR (INCOMPLETE) + FREEBIE PEP COMICS #57 PRICE: $500 SOLD! Asking what I paid and including a freebie. Do I need to mention how red (pun intended) hot Archie is right now? And Pep #24 is about as rare an Archie book there is. Missing large piece from front cover and first 3 pages, which affects the Shield story INCOMPLETE. Rest of the book is complete. Archie story is complete and page quality is excellent after the first 3 pages. Cover is very loosely attached at the staples. 2 1/2 spine split on bottom. Spine roll. General wear and tear consistent with the .5 grade. Also includes: a reader copy of Pep #57. Complete but logo stripped, cover detached with some page slicing from the logo removal.

  11. My biggest regrets are letting go of my coverless More Fun #73 (worth 10x what I paid now), coverless More Fun #55, and coverless All-Star #8. I'll never own any of them again. Maybe a #55, but practically out of budget too. On a lesser note, getting rid of 3 copies of Tec #40 and a much nicer Action #23 than I have now. Oh, and the Larson All American #25. Regret selling that one bigtime.
  12. Also, I posted this in the other thread but maybe it's better suited in this one: So can anybody speak as to the actual rarity of the early Archies? Specifically Pep #23-26. I'm pretty sure they're all listed as Gerber 5. I have a really hard time believing 200-1000 copies of each of these exist, and that's without taking into consideration that the Gerber Scale is typically significantly under the actual amount. I generally double the Gerber scale, so 400-2000 copies each? Doesn't smell right IMO based on census data and common sense in what I've seen through many years of collecting. I suppose it's possible that there are that many holdovers in private collections, but if this were Vegas I'd strongly bet the other way.
  13. So Top Notch #22, Blue Ribbon #21 and Special Comics #1 all had house ads for Archie?

  15. Great insights! Loved reading that old thread. So the correct order for the first ten would be?: 1. Pep 22 2. Pep 23 3. Pep 24 4. Jackpot 4 5. Pep 25 6. Pep 26 7. Jackpot 5 8. Pep 27 9. Pep 28 10. Jackpot 6
  16. Hey gang, Anybody know if there are any good websites or resources for Golden Age Archie chronology out there? I've tried searching GCD for Archie chronologically and it just comes out a big old mess. Or if anybody fancies themselves an expert, do I have the first ten correct?: 1. Pep 22 (Dec 41) 2. Jackpot 4 (Jan 42) 3. Pep 23 (Jan 42) 4. Pep 24 (Feb 42) 5. Jackpot 5 (Mar 42) 6. Pep 25 (Mar 42) 7 Pep 26 (Apr 42) 8 Pep 27 (May 42) 9 Jackpot 6 (Jun 42) 10 Pep 28 (Jun 42) Thanks for any insight! --CB
  17. Haven't posted in awhile. Here are some recent pickups: ^picked up on the boards, CFO ^picked up from Bunky... hole through most of the pages, but one of my favorite Fate covers ^HA pickup, no back cover
  18. Cool book. Someone who doesn't only collect DC should scoop this beauty up.
  19. Currently looking for: Action #23 cover (any piece considered) I know Metro has one Superman #4 cover and outer wrap Flash #2 cover and outer wrap
  20. I've been waiting to post this one until I had it in hand. Today is the day. I paid a hefty price to snag it, but I'm over the moon for it. Might not be a grail book by guide value or content importance, but it's hands down one of my favorite covers of the GA. So it's a semi-grail for me. I used to own a logo stripped copy, and haven't seen many in the years since I sold it. Took me a long time to find one in my price range. They just don't come up often and not as presentable as this one. Staples have been replaced but no other resto to my knowledge.
  21. Here's a pic of the coverless Action #23 that I picked up from Leroy Harper. I'll take a scan when I mylar or slab it up. This is the 3rd copy I've owned. Sold the first two and really wish I hadn't sold the second one. But I'm glad to have a copy back in the fold. Would love to find a cover or partial cover, but not willing to pay the price Metro has on theirs.
  22. Anybody else surprised by the price on this one? I figured it'd fetch a pretty penny given how few the opportunities are to own any piece of MF #52, but this one shocked me. It's still a MF #52, but the Spectre only appears in costume on the splash page (which is missing). Congrats the seller (and buyer?) More Fun #52 on Ebay
  23. Here's a pic of my latest acquisition. Picked this one up from Jim Payette. I used to own a logo stripped copy of this one, but here's copy #2. I've always loved this book. I have no idea on the general scarcity (Gerber scale anyone?), but I've found it to be an incredibly tough book to track down over the years. I've only ever seen two copies and I've bought both of them. Ultimately, I think it's underrated. 1st Atom in costume and 1st Ma Hunkel as Red Tornado. Picked up an Action #23 last night, so pics of that to come.
