  1. Makes me wonder about a total copies estimate. Anybody know the Gerber rating on Archie #1? Census is at what, 30-40? I wonder if even 100 still exist?
  2. Hot . Action #23 is the #2 book on my want-list. Your copy is gorgeous. I'm a huge Lex Luthor fan, and I used to own a coverless copy, so I'm itching to get back into one. Might be splitting hairs, but I think the 1st "Lex" Luthor distinction is actually a misnomer. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think he was ever called "Lex" until many many years later in Adventure #271.
  3. UPDATE: Well, by some miracle I've finally managed to get through to Heritage. Not thrilled that it took three pleading calls and an email, but that's life. I have tracking info and it's coming FedEx 2 day. So it comes by Friday.
  4. Definitely. I'm not really mad about the shipping delay. It's frustrating, but things happen. What I'm mad about is the fact that I've now called them three times to explain the situation (me being gone and unable to receive the book after Friday) and nobody seems to realize the repercussions of that. I'm sure they don't want a 2k book lost in the FedEx phantom zone any more than I do. You'd think they would realize they need to get it in gear.
  5. With respect to the Sups 2, I would call them, explain the situation, and if they haven't yet shipped it, ask them to overnight it. If they have already shipped it, you should receive it by Friday. For sure. I'm gonna give them another call in a little bit to see if anything's changed. Problem is, they always say the right thing... and then never do it.
  6. Frustration Update: Just needed to vent a little bit. I'm less than a week away from leaving to spend time with extended family over the holidays. I'll be gone for over a month. As of this moment, I have 3k in books that I have not received. After 2 (going to be 3 very shortly) calls and one email, Heritage still hasn't sent me my Superman #2. If it arrives while I'm away via FedEx, I won't be able to receive it. I have absolutely no idea what I'm going do if it doesn't come by Friday or what will happen to the book. Argh. Likewise, my Action #22 hasn't arrived either after repeated emails, PMs and even an Ebay case opened. The seller (who has perfect feedback) has apparently gone MIA. At least I'm protected with this one, but I really really wanted the book. While my stress levels rise, I hope yours are declining! Happy holidays to everybody!
  7. So after being a little depressed about that Action #10 last night, I went over to one of my local comic shops this morning to peruse back issues and saw this beauty on the wall for a song: ALL-AMERICAN COMICS #90 (1st Icicle) FR/GD Needless to say, it's now safe in my collection.
  8. That was a tough book to like, given its many problems. The brittle pages would seem to be a killer for using it to complete another incomplete copy. But I guess for some people an early Action is an early Action, however beat. amazing that the 3.0 brittle copy went for $30,500. fuelman's copy of Action #10 was also a 3.0 and sold on Clink just 3 years ago for $23k, and it wasn't brittle. just crazy. 30k for a brittle Action #10 is the definition of insanity. It's also why I'll never own one.
  9. Tonight, I bid on the Action #10 (Coverless/Incomplete) in the Comic Connect auction and got blown out of the water. Action #10 (CC Auction) Thought I had a shot, but there are obviously some serious Action collectors out there willing to thrown down huge chunks of change for a coverless, incomplete, brittle copy. Lesson learned... bring the big bucks or go home empty handed when it comes to early Actions. Anybody here win it?
  10. Wonderful book. Congrats! I think it's one of the best early Supes covers. 100% agree!
  11. Looks great! I'm a big fan of those early Siegel and Shuster Actions and Supermans, and have quite a few myself. There's something so charming, and yet so raw and primitive about them. Unlike some GA heroes which read like they were written & drawn by committee, the early Supes covers & stories feel like true labors of love. I completely agree. I really like how the pre-#23 covers feel. The non-war covers seem to have a real populist vibe to them which matches the tone of a lot of the early Action/Supes stories. #23 is the first damsel in distress type cover in the Superman run, and the covers tend to grow increasingly generic for me from there on out. That being said, #23 is still high on my list because of a certain you know who.
  12. Looks great! I'm a big fan of those early Siegel and Shuster Actions and Supermans, and have quite a few myself. There's something so charming, and yet so raw and primitive about them. Unlike some GA heroes which read like they were written & drawn by committee, the early Supes covers & stories feel like true labors of love. perfectly stated Jon. (thumbs u And congrats Jake on a great book Thanks, Bill!
  13. Like minds think alike! Better let me know if you're looking at anything in the CC auction so I don't jinx you, though it's probably pretty apparent what I'm after.
  14. Sure do. That's a CGC 3.5 that I could definitely get into - structurally very nice, and the scattered staining/discolorations don't bother me that much at all (especially on the back cover). Toss in great PQ, and you have a Jake. Thanks! The back cover staining doesn't really bother me either. I'm eager to have it in hand to see the front cover with my own eyes. But as you said, it looks so structurally nice that I think it'll be in my collection for a long, long time.
  15. Okay, folks... I just won the pretty thing I was enamored with. To say I'm super pumped would be an understatement. Remember last week when I expressed a fondness for a certain early Action cover?... ACTION COMICS #22 CGC 3.5 (Off-White to White Pages) Should look really nice with my Superman #2. Starting to look like early Superman will be my primary focus in this Golden Age DC quest. I have my eye on something in the CC auction ending in a few days. After that, I'll probably slow down over the holidays so the wife doesn't hit me over the head with a baseball bat in my sleep.
  16. I don't think that the spot in the yellow bricks is color touch, looks more like a small stain.Amatuer color touch is fairly easy to spot as the materials used, like felt tip markers, never match very well.I would guess it is probably on a crease, spine stress or small paper lift. Can you post a larger scan? I'll see if I can get some better pics up in the near future.
  17. I was under the impression it was a touch up to the bricks, to the right of the Kane sig.
  18. Here's a better pic of the amateur color touch: What do you guys think? Yay or nay to restoration removal? Don't know what's left under there and I would obviously take a hit in grade. But I'd rather have a lower blue than a higher PLOD.
  19. Good call. It's hard to tell from the scan I posted. I'll try and get a better pic up.
  20. I don't want to jinx myself, but I'm working on acquiring something very pretty in the next couple days. Nothing major, just very early and clean. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting on my Superman #2 to arrive from HA. And I'm trying to figure out what to do with the 'Tec #45. Since it's only slight amateur color touch the front cover, I'm very seriously considering trying to have the resto removed. Might make up for the current slab arriving in such poor shape.
  21. I always figured there would be a lot of maneuvering with this undertaking. Glad you guys don't think I'm nuts for dropping a half grade point to get into the blue.
  22. The new 'Tec #40 has arrived. Blue label goodness. Not much drop off from my other copy if you ask me. DETECTIVE COMICS #40 (1st Joker Cover; 1st Clayface) CGC 1.5
  23. Guess what, folks!? Well, I upgraded my 'Tec #40 to a blue label tonight. I'll post pics when it arrives. But that means my lovely CGC 2.0 Qualified is now available in the sales forum, if anybody is interested in adding a copy to their collection! --CB
  24. I guess price wise, but even just counting Superman covers, I don't see it. 7, 10 & 19 are all cooler to my eyes. (thumbs u I third that! But it's a streamliner train, folks! They don't come much cooler than that.
  25. Just give it a little 90 degree turn, Bill. Then again, I think I failed geometry.
