  1. Absolutely top notch! (thumbs u After some sour transactions I've had on Ebay recently, it was great to buy from somebody who knows what he's doing! Perfect packaging, quick delivery and flawless communication along the way. Thanks, Joey!
  2. Is this guy a nut or what? Large Coverless Lot He can't possibly think that this is the best way to sell these books? That 'Tec #29 is probably worth 3-5k in and of itself. That prices everybody else out who might be interested in one or two of the other, lesser books. Just weird.
  3. I'm fairly up on the specifics. 85 through the end are tough (as are 25-40). 94 is tough, but not as bad as 93, 96, 99 or 103. Those are the doozies, IMO. Nevertheless, very cool book. Great info! Exactly what I was looking for! (thumbs u
  4. Thanks, everybody! I was so excited to nab it that I struck the deal while I'm still on vacation. Now I'm gonna have to haul it back with me on the plane. Any idea what 30,000 feet does to slabs?
  5. I like it! You are building a nice collection very quickly brother. Save some for the rest of us DC geeks Well... I feel like I have to add a few big pieces before the well dries up, ya know?
  6. Thanks to roulette44, my Superman #2 has a new friend. SUPERMAN #3 (CGC 2.0) Looks like the Action #13 will have to wait... for now.
  7. maybe $10k give or take a few grand up or down. I agree with Prime on this estimate as I think it will go slightly north of the 10K mark...the slightly brittle pages like Ciorac said should absolutely kill the final sales point but just like he said it probably won't in this case...this is one of those books that is unobtainable to many at a certain grade point and this is a nicely presentable classic cover for the low grade...all it takes is two dogs in a fight for this and it could soar quickly...I say make a run my friend...I did the same recently with a grail of mine...worst thing that could happen is you would lose...big deal, no regrets, you live to fight another day...it is a heck of a grail though...I figure with the recent 3.5 flying just south of 35K...10K has a real good shot!!! the nice part is for you there are currently 3 blue label 1.0s on the census and 1 blue 0.5 so it's not like it the only one of its kind...the remarkable thing about this book is that in 2007 GPA has a recorded sale of a 1.0 going for less than $2,500 somebody get this man a time machine!!!! I hope you get it CB bc like you I just recently got stung by the GOLDEN AGE bug and it stung hard man!! I wish we could find some of these books at the same prices they were even 5 years ago!! GL it's great to hear someone is floating in the same boat down the same creek as I!! BTW HAPPY NEW YEARS TO YA!! Thanks! It's a crazy world we live in where a brittle 1.0 Action #13 is expected to clear the 10k mark!
  8. Just picked up a small piece on the 'Bay tonight. FLASH COMICS #94 (raw/FR) Grabbed it because I love me some Hawkman covers and this one is pretty cool. I'm not really up on the specific or individual scarcity of late run Flash Comics, but I am familiar with them being pretty hard to come by. At any rate, a pretty cool low grade book to add into the mix for relatively little investment. FLASH COMICS #94 LISTING
  9. Great buyer! Prompt communication and payment! Would sell to again in a heartbeat!
  10. I was in for $200, but it quickly went above what I though it was worth. Once upon a time, I had a nice coverless copy. Not anymore. I'll bet the new owner has a coverless copy waiting in the wings. Too much of a gamble without one @ $350. But I might have been in, even @ that price if I still had my coverless.
  11. Last we heard, rumor was Rashida Jones had the role.
  12. maybe $10k give or take a few grand up or down. So you're telling me there's a chance! Actually, the only laughing involved would be from the people at my bank.
  13. The brittle pages should hurt the price, but these days early Actions seem to transcend defects. I'm not a brittle page guy at all, so I wouldn't buy it at any price. But, that is just me What would you guess though, Bill? 6k? More? Just curious if I should even bother.
  14. I just read the whole thread and (thumbs u To be honest I see my collecting following a very similar path as yours and fully expect to fall into the pit of becoming a GA DC collector. (I try to stay out of this section as much as possible for fear of being sucked in.) I already shun most post 1965 except for the few runs I collect and a couple of books I like, and At this point most of my big books I want are the earliest of the DC SA keys. I can't wait to watch the journey unfold. Come on, Nathan! Join the brotherhood!
  15. I'm in love. ACTION COMICS #13 (CC) Of course, I know I don't stand a chance on this one, even though it's my #1 grail. What do you guys think it'll go for?
  16. Glad you're enjoying it, my friend! One of my goals was to be able to do something with collecting wherein I could share the experience with others. It's nowhere near as fun to put together a collection without being able to share the experience! Some day you might just get tired and bored with Silver/Bronze and decide to sell your entire collection. Let me tell you it won't be easy. In fact, it will be painful. But after you do it, and aim your focus on GA for a fresh start... it'll feel like a weight's been lifted off your shoulders. (thumbs u
  17. It's a Christmas miracle! Not only am I expecting the delivery of my Superman #2 via FedEx today, but by the beard of Jolly Ol' Saint Nick, the ACTION #22 ARRIVED!!!! Ironically, I discovered this morning it's still for sale on COMICLINK. ACTION COMICS #22 Needless to say, it's not for sale. And I'm tickled pink with it.
  18. Oh, I know. It's just hard to lose an affordable pre-24 Action that you won fair and square.
  19. Looks like I'm going to have to wait a little while longer to join the club. Still haven't heard back regarding the whereabouts of my Action #22 (if it ever actually existed). I'll be escalating the case to recoup my money on Friday. Doubt anything changes, so I'm majorly bummed. On the bright side, one of you surely has a nice #1-24 copy lying around that you want to sell me, right?
  20. I'm not necessarily looking for extreme scarcity, but a little more of a challenge than SA/BA Marvel. I can think of 100+ GA DC books I want that can't be found on Ebay with a search. Whereas I can't think of a single SA/BA book I can say the same of. this is true, I think that "the challenge" part of collecting GA DC is trying to find well presenting copies that don't break your bank. they may not be as rare as say Centaurs, etc. but locating solid copies for a decent price is the trick. Very much agreed. Rarity in and of itself isn't an interest of mine. Sure, Centaurs are rare, but I also have no interest in them. I'm interested in GA DC and they also happen to be more of a challenge.
  21. UPDATE 2: While things are looking a lot better on the Heritage end, the Ebay situation grows a bit more dire. I have a bad feeling about this one. Has anybody ever bought from the seller: fivestarcollectiblesinc ? They appear to have a website as well: Five Star Collectibles They have low, but perfect feedback. Had a funny feeling about them when it took 3 days for Paypal to clear my payment to them. Now I'm really concerned. No response to PMs and emails. It's Ebay, so I know I'll get my money back, but I'll be heartbroken over losing this book (if it ever existed). I was so pumped about adding an Action #22 to my collection.

  23. Action #23 is really one of the more underrated GA DC books from 1940. Although Superman #4 beat it to some newsstands in (technically making it the 1st newsstand app. of Lex Luthor), the story from Action #23 came first. It's also one of the last Shuster Action covers. Thanks guys I'm really happy with this. I had to stretch the budget a little for it, but what the heck it's Christmas. Yes Wayne-Tec you're correct some newsstands did get the Supe 4 slightly before the Action 23, but the 23 is definitely Lex's 1st appearance in cannon, as you also noted. Cosmic Boy you're also right, I believe he went by "Alexander Joseph Luthor" for the first 20 years or so before the nickname "Lex" actually came about. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong... But yes I am definitely stoked to have this 1st appearance of DC's #2 super villain, and a great classic cover to boot. -J. I think he was just referred to as Luthor for more than a decade after his first appearance. No first name.
