Holy carp! Got any incomplete books that aren't in the Top 10-20 GA Grails list?

Looking for any parts to More Fun #55 and Adventure Comics #48 & #61. Incomplete, coverless, single pages, single panels, etc. you get the drift. Also any single pages from Flash Comics #1. If I built my first DC Golden Age collection by buying parts to marry, by gosh I'll do it again.

A couple of recent pickups: Got this one from Richie Muchin. It's a little more brittle than I'd like but can't complain at the price I got it. Still a very tough book that doesn't come up all that often. This one from the 'Bay was a steal. Logo stripped but looks pretty tight otherwise. About a month into my early GA Flash run and I've put together a nice string of books: #2 (partial coverless), #4, #5, #8, #15. Also picked up a nice lower grade All-American #20 this week. So I guess the bigger question is whether a single slabbed Tec 27 Batman page would nab $5-7k then? Seems high to me.

$10-15k would be my guess. Decent value anywhere in there I would think.

FLASH COMICS #8 Also picked up a cool coverless incomplete copy of #2 from another boardie and just today I was able to grab a #5. This Flash run is really starting to take off!

It's Shelly Moldoff. I've always felt he did spiffy work. Love the covers to #8 and #10.

It's been a good week! Started my Golden Age Flash quest and have already managed to pick up a #2, #4 and #8. Can't wait for that mail call! Pics when they come.

Random musing: I've always loved this cover. As a kid (pre-internet), I used to check out old Overstreets from my local library just to look at the pictures of Golden Age books. This one always stuck out to me. For some reason, I used to think that the Flash was racing to save some wrongly accused guy from the electric chair. I've never read the story, but that's where my imagination went at the time. --CB

Howdy Folks!, Felt like a good time to resurrect this thread. 2015 brought some pretty big life changes and not a lot of time for funny books. But I'm back on the Golden Age DC prowl again and thought I'd bring this one back from the dead. Lately I've been wanting to put together an early Flash Comics run. These days, Detective is a rich man's game and I'm finding myself increasingly boxed out of and outgunned on Action collecting too. Given how awesome Jay Garrick is, and the fact that you also get an early Hawkman bonus to boot, I feel like there's still great value and reward in putting together an early Flash run. I'll keep you guys posted on what I can dig up and always appreciate the support and camaraderie provided by all in this forum! --CB

I offered a very fair price, all things considered. Seller was fairly incredulous and told me he/she was SURE it was worth more than 2K even though he/she admits non-paying bidders drove up the price. In other words, it's a lost cause.

I doubt it, considering the Frankenbook would either have large detached chunks from the front cover or be restored.

True. I lost any interest in bidding when the "shill" started up. I hope the buyer enjoys the book, but I think he/she was suckered big time.

I was watching the book intently. There was at least one suspect bidder IMO.

Please forgive me if this has been discussed in this thread before, but how do you guys value the books you have married, or when buying copies that have had something married to them? Do you usually knock a % off the guide price of the book's condition? Just curious what everybody else's mentality is regarding pricing a married book.

Thanks to Gabriel (uchiha101), I was able to get a hold of the two missing centerfolds needed to marry into and complete my recently acquired Action Comics #15. It looks pretty good in a mylar to me!

All went exceptionally well with my first transaction with Gabriel! Hope to have more in the future!

My latest addition: ACTION COMICS #15 -- Missing Two Centerfolds Wasn't really looking for an incomplete copy, but I couldn't resist for the price. Now I'm on the prowl for those two centerfolds!

Thanks!! My main criteria when looking are 1) no brittleness and 2) value (I'm really not in a position to overpay). The presentability is nice but has mostly been luck so far. Let's hope it continues. FWIW, the Action #20 & #23 are both complete but missing back covers. The tradeoff is that the front covers are awesome!

Hey gang! I haven't written in this thread in a while. Just thought I'd touch base and let you all know that I'm doing well and still having a ball collecting GA DC, although my focus has clearly taken another definitive and dramatic turn. It'll probably come as no shock that I've decided to focus solely on GA Superman for the time being. For some reason, I seem to feel better when I have a more specific direction and clarity as a collector, even when we're talking about a subset within an already narrowed focus. And I can truly say, without any hesitation at this moment in my life, that Golden Age Superman is what makes me happy as a collector. As collectors, I feel like some part of our collecting spirit is always in transition. And though it has already come with all the usual costs and sacrifices, this transition to collecting only one character has felt very natural and necessary to me every step of the way. That being said (and considering my low budget), I'm pretty darn happy with the little run I've put together in just over a year's time. I've also made a couple recent transactions, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to post some bigger pics of my collection as it stands. Also, thank you all so much for the kind words and encouragement in this thread! I wish you all the best, and humbly hope you enjoy my poor man's slice of the Superman pie!
