The Felix Comic Art Podcast is back with a rare new episode! Featuring special guest, The Prince Of All-Media, DAVID CHOE!
Yes, David is famously a big comics fan. But even more relevant to us, he's a big comic ART fan. And a big comic art collector.
Check out a Choe chat like you've never heard before in our latest episode!:
https://www.felixcomicart.com/podcastdetail.asp?pId=65
And then check out our companion ORIGINAL ART SHOW AND TELL video with Dave on our YouTube channel where he shares some favorite pieces from his collection:
As you'll see, the man has great taste! Thanks to Dave for one of the most fun shows we've ever done. And thanks to you all for checking it out...enjoy!
FelixSuch a great conversation.
An aside, David was SO good in Beef. -
Image updated.
They added the Free Comic Book Day custom label at the bottom of all the images. -
It's always hard when it comes to movies about a perfect one.
I can point to perfect casting / directing / scripts / scenes / etc...but to combine all of those into one piece of media...is...tough.
'There Will Be Blood' is usually my response.- PopKulture and ThothAmon

Is it me or is today's CGC 'news' article just reposting the same labels from last year?
What has been updated?

I'm not surprised to see something like this happen, any business is vulnerable to people trying to pull a scam one way or another.
HOWEVER, that's why you put safeguards in place. And the biggest safeguard CGC had was a strict policy on employees not being able to deal in CGC graded books at all. Once they opened that door, and I'm not sure when that was, they essentially invited someone to come do something like this. If there is anything I would want to see come out of this, it's that CGC employees are unable to buy, sell, or submit to CGC with no exceptions.
I agree, but also know people will find a way.
For example, in college I worked for a major toy store no longer in business.
I collected comics / cards / toys and was active on eBay.
I was able to get ALL the HTF hot toys before they hit the shelf with my discount.
That was within our rules.
*I* never sold any of the items as that was against the rules.
What I did do was trade at my LCS or have my partner list the items using their eBay username.
Largest ROI were Hot Wheels...and Tickle Me Elmos.
Where there are low wage jobs with strict rules, there is someone 'following the rules' but to their fiscal benefit. -

There isn't one. None are designed for CGC cases that I have ever seen. My guess is the demand for that size is so low as to not be worth producing.
Thank you.

Thank you. Added to my wish list. Going to reach out to the seller regarding the UV protection rating on these bags. Appreciate it.

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone can let me know what MyLite2 is best for CGC's magazine holder.
(couldn't find any examples on eBay or Amazon)
Thank you in advance.

What I have made very clear is that this lawsuit is the result of CGC not being able to be successful with Plan A (working it out privately), so filing a lawsuit (YESTERDAY) was a necessary evil: someone in house spilled the beans, so it had to be done for no other reason than to be able to say you did in the next lawsuit.
This take is accurate.
Having worked a long time for a company that deals with internal theft on many levels, reaching a lawsuit is utilized in setting a precedent for all current and future employees. There is a greater than zero chance CGC hasn't encountered 'shenanigans' previously that were handled in-house.

See title.
Also, when are the 2024 new (and retiring) custom labels going to be announced? -

Probably not a real good time to inquire about this in the middle of the Reholder Scam which included custom labels.

True.
Hopefully, I can bump this in a year or so. -
Would it be possible to introduce point values for custom labels?
Thus making collecting / having custom labels added value to the CGC registry.
Then increased points for retired labels...? -
Submitted my Bruce Timm SS copy of Batman: Mad Love in for the Paul Dini signing.
I got the book back (with the original label included in the package) without Bruce Timm mentioned on the new label.
CGC Mike messaged me and we handled it quickly.
I then had to wait 40 business days to get my corrected book back.
Only good news was that I had CGC press it and it got the grade bump...- Skippeydoo and TK2

Only two of my three Signature Series submissions arrived back before the end of the year.
(the 3rd will definitely end up being on 2024's list)
Spawn #9 signed by Neil Gaiman
For the memes / goofs this will be submitted for the next private McFarlane signing.
Whenever that happens...
Signing via @CGC Comics
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 Third Print signed and sketched by Kevin Eastman
Fingers crossed for a Peter Laird signing eventually.

Continued tracking of my 50 piece personal collection's value for insurance purposes.

June to July 4.19% increase
July to August 1.63% increase
August to September 1.67% decrease
September to October .13% decrease
October to November 4.01% decrease
November to December .64 % increase2023 YOY value was down .83%

Wolverine 102.5 SS
Batman 608 2nd Print SS
Sandman #1 SS
Comics with largest % decrease YOY
Giant-Size X-men #1
Conan #24 Nude SS

Whilst we may never see another pandemic runup again things aren't as 'the skies are falling' as some would believe.
Next year's tracking will be expanding to 60 CGC slabs (an increase of 10 books / 20%) as I will be moving them from the entry level BCW slab boxes to the new ones that are currently back-ordered.

@CGC Mike - When will these be launched?

Not when I directly submit to CGC, BUT I do have all Signature Series (whether directly to CGC or via facilitators) submissions pressed.
-
What books are you all thinking of sending in? Stinks that there are a lack of quality comic book photo covers to choose from.
-
Question for the hive mind.
Has any customer of CIS ever received a 'free appraisal' response from Metropolis Comics?
If so, were you happy with their appraisal?
(I've emailed them a few times over the past year and never heard back)
Recently, I decided to list some 'rare' books (with no sales for years...) on eBay with BIN prices that are WAY above FMV.
(my way of trying to get an estimate on insurance coverage value since I can't seem to get ahold of Metropolis)
Someone made me a a strong offer in the low 5 digits for one book and I now want to insure it for that value, but CIS recommends an estimate from Metropolis Comics...
Rinse meet repeat.
Thank you in advance.
New custom Marvel labels are now available
in CGC Announcements
Posted
Tomorrow will be 3 weeks.
Any way to reach out to them?
I'm holding back submitting stuff just in case custom labels get announced.
