  1. Can someone explain to me why in gods name someone paid full price while the bid was at just 92k??? maybe i'm wrong and the seller would have not accepted anything but the full amount but with the bid at 92k, it seems to me like they DEFINITELY could have gotten it for less than 150K. I mean is there any possible way that the seller wouldnt have accepted like 140k if not less? 5% off the asking price would have been 142.5k. I cant believe he wouldnt have taken 5% lower than his asking price. 7.5k is A LOT of money to save i dont care who you are or how much money you have!
  2. J, This is just my opinion so take it for what it is worth. I would give it another week. Then post the guy's name. Not as a Probation thing, because it wouldn't have been 30 days since the invoice. But to see if he has any compadres on the Boards that might be able to track him down outside the Boards. It may be a situation where life crept up on him and he hasn't been able to check the Boards and it has just slipped off his radar. But once you get to 30 days, you pretty much should go full on Proby thread to protect the community. He will still have a chance to make it right and get off the list. Agreed. Find someone who knows him and hit them up for alternate contact info. Yeah, the only issue was i didnt really want to post his name in here and make him look bad. I understand things come up and maybe he's just been AWOL for the last few weeks and forgot about it. He's not a poster that i've seen around before so i have no clue who might know him without posting his name. Again, it's not a HUGE deal but i would like to get it done and over with instead of having his book sitting out wrapped in bubble tape on my desk. I'll wait another week and then i guess post his name and see if anyone else can help me contact him. Thanks guys

It's not a huge deal, luckily it was a fairly small book so nothing life threatening but it was a book that someone else wanted and now cant afford after other books they bought instead. Even though its a fairly small amount, still kind of annoying to be stuck with a book someone else wanted. I'll give it another week and then see if anyone else can help contact him and complete the sale. Thanks
  4. I'm new around here so i wanted to ask you guys how to handle this situation. In one of my sales threads last month, a boardie posted the for a book on January 26th. On the 28th, i PM'd him asking if he wanted me to invoice him right away or wait until i finished posting all the books i was selling to see if there was anything else he wanted. The response was to wait and he would look to see if there were any other books he wanted. I closed the thread and invoiced him on February 5th for the book he posted an unconditional on. That PM has been unread by him since February 5th and he hasnt posted on the boards since January 28th. It's now over 2 weeks since that date and no word whatsoever from him. How should this be handled? Thanks, Jason
  5. Thank you! Coming from you, that's quite a compliment. Hopefully, someday I can get my collection near yours and some of other giants on the board. I can remember getting the Gerber photo guides as a kid for Christmas and looking at those early X-men and dreaming of owning them someday. To have fairly nice copies in hand finally is a dream come true for me
  6. I've waited 30 years to FINALLY have all 3 of these together and now it is done! Now i just have to get my 4 and 5 slabbed! and a scan of each
  7. Thanks, it helps to be obsessed with a single title! I've definitely been there on being disappointed with CGC grades. I suppose that as long as you didn't pay too much for the books then it all comes out. No matter what, that X-Men #3 is still a really nice book. I'm not much of one for buying raw and submitting to CGC anymore - too many disappointments. I'd rather buy the book after someone else has been through that heartache. Besides, in my experience the raw book often is sold at a grade a bit higher than what you'll actually receive from CGC so it's rare to come out money-ahead. I'm sure that some people do because they spend a lot of time looking and are really good at grading. I'm not that good. I agree with that now pretty much. I very rarely buy raw books anymore unless I'm getting a insane deal or it's a very rare book. Even then, like you said, I expect the book to be a lower grade than advertised. I'm probably a decent amount older than you though( pushing 40) and almost all of my raw books were bought back before CGC even existed. From like 1991-1998, I spent Almost all my money on comics. I was lucky to have some really awesome LCS in my area that always had a lot of fairly HG silver age books. Unfortunately back them I didn't have a heck of alot of money to spend but what I had went to comics. I can still vividly remember in 1995 my LCS tropic comics bought a run of Avengers from a guy that walked in and sold them while I was in there. It had Avengers 2-30 and ALL of them were 9.6 at least. The #2 was the nicest SA book Ive ever seen, probably a strong 9.8. Sadly, I couldn't afford to buy a single one of th though back then
  8. Sweet Xmen cyclegirl! You seem to always be getting the Xmen slabs I am missing lately. As to the question you asked about my books, I'm not devastated with the grades I got but not thrilled either. The xmen3 I was hoping for a 9.2 maybe even a gift 9.4 so the 9.0 was a little disappointing. The DD1 was a pretty big disappointment. I was hoping for a 6.5-7.0 and thought 6.0 would be the worst I could get. 5.5 was pretty surprising! I don't have alot of experience with books in that range but it certainly looks better than most of the 5.5-6.0's that I've seen. I probably should have pressed it before I sent it in hindsight. Oh well, what can you do. Still, for what I paid for them way back when, I can't complain.
  9. Very nice Torch. Looks a bit nicer than 7.5. Glad they made it back home safe. (thumbs u Thank you! It is MUCH nicer than a 7.5! You cant see it in the scan but right near the Torchs head, there is a small rip where something hit the cover and scrunched up a small piece of the cover about the size of a pencil eraser. Without that, it probably would have gotten at least a 8.5 and maybe 9.0. I was hoping the rip wouldnt get hit too hard and id still get a 8.0 but cant complain with a 7.5. Im just happy its a blue label! (thumbs u
  10. Thank you! I thought you and cyclegirl would like the X-men 3. The X-men 3 was quite a score for me! Back in 1994, i walked into my LCS and they had just got a bunch of X-men for consignment literally 5 minutes before i walked in. I got the 3, a 5,6,7 and 8 for REAL cheap! The 3 was the nicest of them, the 6 got a 7.5 last month and the others are probably 8.0-8.5 but i havent had them slabbed yet. I was hoping for a 9.2 on the #3 but i think the overspray on the top might have knocked me down to 9.0.
  11. Thank you! You cant see it on the scan but right next to the Torch's head, there is a little rip. Looks like something hit it and crunched up a small piece of the cover about the size of a pencil eraser. without that, it probably would have been 8.5-9.0. I was hoping it wouldnt get hit too hard and knock me below 7.5 so i'm fairly happy with the grade. Was praying for a 8.0 but wasnt to be. Cant complain though for how much i paid. It sat at my LCS for at least 2 years and every time they had their 50% off sale, they would take it out of the case and hide it away. One time, they left it in for the sale and i snatched it up at 50% off (thumbs u
  12. These were at CGC for a LONG time but finally back home safe and sound with blue labels
  13. I just got mine late last week, so yours should be on the way! Now that i think about it, i remember 1 of my books had a cracked case and a note that is it getting reholdered so thats probably what the delay is about. I havent gotten a "shipped" email so i dont think they are even on the way yet. I want my Hulk 4 danggit!!! Well, at least you'll know that it will be in a brand-new holder with no scratches and scuff marks! (thumbs u Yeah, but unfortunately, it isn't the hulk getting reholdered, it's the astonishing tales1. I did get the email a few hours ago that it shipped! Books will be here on the 18th
  14. Sold some books to Marc and the transaction was as smooth as possible! Quick payment and great communication. Would do business with Marc anytime (thumbs u

  16. I agree. I really think that if this was some nothing book from the mid80's-90's, it would have gotten a 9.9. Definitely annoying but i think you are right and even hoping is pointless for BA/SA books. It just aint gonna happen.
  17. +1!!! I still cant believe that my Iron Fist 14 came back "only" a 9.8 That thing is freaking FLAWLESS! I have a lot of 9.8's and that IF14 blows every single one of them out of the water, not even close. All 4 corners front and back are like razors and not 1 single even tiny dent on the spine. I'd put it up against any other 9.8 IF14 and would bet money that 100 out of 100 people would pick it as the nicest of them all. I'm firmly convinced it IS a 9.9 but they just decided they are NOT going to give ANY IF14 a 9.9-10.0 (thumbs u Maybe your IF14 is a 9.85. Getting a 9.9 is darn hard (not real new stuff though). I literally scan to a comic shop's inventory of 1200 Amazing Spiderman 363 and 600-X-men 282 and thought I found at least a 9.9 for my collection, but NO. Apparently! I've seen i think 3 9.9's and 1 10.0 in person (all moderns) and none of them look any better than my IF14. Like i said, it is FLAWLESS. As hard as it is to et, i was pretty positive i was getting the magical 9.9-10.0. Why it didnt, who knows??? I called for the graders notes and they told me "there are no notes for this book but all 3 graders gave it a 9.8". They said they dont usually have notes for 9.8's. I dont know if thats true or not since i've never called for notes on a 9.8 before. every other 9.8 ive gotten i was thrilled over and didnt bother getting notes. I got 4 9.8's back in my last submission and my IF14 makes them look like 8.0's! It's definitely annoying that not only did i not get the 9.9-10.0 but they cant even tell me what was wrong with the book to not get that grade Like i said, i definitely feel like they just decided that there are NOT going to be any 9.9 IF14's at this point
