  1. Hey, I just found an example of a Stan sig that 100% DOES NOT affect the cover in a negative way. https://www.ebay.com/itm/AMAZING-SPIDER-MAN-361-GCG-9-6-2X-SIGNED-BY-STAN-LEE-BAGLEY-1ST-FULL-CARNAGE/292337506674?hash=item4410ac5972:g:MegAAOSwk1haEc7W
  2. What if....... A man or woman was found who actually worked the presses in 1962 when AF15 was being printed, and definitively stated that the Pence copies were printed 1st before the cent copies were printed. Do you think that would that affect the pricing on Pence copies in any way?
  3. I remember once, in a moment of boredom, figuring out the surface area of an Amazing Fantasy 15 comic, including all interior pages. I then measured the surface area of the "distinct differences" between a Pence copy and a Cent copy. I don't remember my exact results (and I don't feel like figuring it out again) but a Pence copy is something like 99.8% exactly the same as a Cent copy. Amazing
  4. $27k is 60% of $45k I think the buyer of the Pence copy did extremely well. It's a sweet looking copy. When you consider that there's been a few 7.0 cent copies that have sold over $100k, that 6.0 pence looks even better.
  5. I like the idea of pictures of inner pages. My 7.0 has "To Dashing David. Excelsior! Stan Lee + Spidey - '74" written on the splash page. I took a pic of it before encapsulation because I figured any future owner would want to see it. I would be shocked if they wouldn't want to see that.
  6. I can't remember how covers are set up on sheets before being trimmed. When Marvel chipping happens is it when the final right edge trim happens? Or does it happen earlier when there are 4up or 8up covers on a sheet that are being trimmed apart?
  7. Here's something to chew on.... CGC treats their grading for Marvel chipped comics as if the chipping wasn't there, because the chipping is a "manufacturing defect". However, CGC treats the 60s DC comics (where the staples blew thru the cover) different. You know what I'm talking about, right.... example: you find a gorgeous Atom #1, it looks to be about a 9.4, and then when you open the cover you see that the bottom staple has blown thru the cover and the 1st 2 wraps (I use this example because it happened to me). I have since found that this is a common problem with silver DC. The DC silver age staple problem is a manufacturing defect, but CGC gives those comics a Green Qualified label. I'm not saying I want the Marvel chipped comics to get a Green label, but I don't think the DC staple problem comics should be treated any differently than the Marvel chipping problem..... both manufacturing defects.
  8. That's the one. And like others have said about pence copies and chipping...... mine doesn't have a hint of Marvel Chipping. The color strike is amazing too.
  9. I think we are in the calm before the storm with regards to Pence copies. Why else would Pristine comics now be running ads in the OSG for Pence copies? Has any comic dealer EVER run ads in OSG searching for pence copies? I wonder if they are the ones who scooped up the Af15 6.0. I think who ever won it is VERY happy with the price. Imagine if Darren Adams (Pristine) did one of his videos hawking a set of high grade Pence copies. Talking about the rarity and legitimacy of these variants. Telling the story that we are debating here about pence copies being printed at the same time with the same inks and paper. He's a master marketer. I'd like to see it (Of course, I have skin in the game so I am biased).
  10. My understanding is that MC happened because the printer/binder didn't change the papercutting blades as often as needed. When the blade was fresh.... nice "free edge" to the comic, as the blade dulled.... the "free edge" started to "pre-chip", and then when the blade was really dulled you got the worst of the worst MC. Low paper quality probably played a part too.
  11. Thanks GAtor, I value your opinion a lot.
  12. I think that's the route I'll take. If I do get to a point that I'd ever want to sell it do think having it "conserved" would be a smart thing to do just to bump up the grade up to a 3.0 or so? No resto, just conservation.
  13. The guy I got the BC from seemed genuinely happy for me too which was cool. I had to give up a lot to get it so I think he is happy too.
  14. Yup, that's this copy. I missed that auction and wept, but I was able to keep track of the guy and have been going back and forth with him about the cover. He got WAY more than what he paid for it in trade.
  15. I just took the back cover to the bank so I thought I'd snap a few photos and share. The outer wrap of the inner pages is not perfect but the rest of the inner pages are fairly nice.
  16. I guess I was assuming a full spine split was sealed, but now I see that it says "splits" in the description, so I guess the degree of the spine split would determine the possible grade after removing resto. You're right though it's a good looking book (even has white pages so I'll bet the interior looks really nice). But even a good looking book is super low grade if the spine is split.
  17. Hmmmmm...... seems like if you remove all of the resto you're left with a 1.0 at best. That was a really strong price.
  18. Does anyone have a link to this one. I'd like to look at it.
  19. I agree, my inclination is to keep it as is. But then I look at GPA and see a restored 8.0 sold recently for $150k, what's the story with that one? Why did it sell so high?
  20. Never say never. I found the front cover on ebay 3 years ago. And it's not like it I snatched it after it was listed. The cover cycled through about 21 days without selling. I made the guy an offer finally and he took it (I got it cheap which amazed me). The back cover is the tough one to find so I feel pretty fortunate.
  21. I would like to get some solid advice from some of you boardies. My front and back covers are actually in pretty nice shape. If restored I think the comic could get a fairly high grade. However..... there are SO many restored Superman 1s that I like the idea of leaving it the way it is.
