  1. An Af15 7.0 pence copy is the jewel of my collection.
  2. What did $150 "feel" like back then. Did you feel like you were way overspending?
  3. I'm thinking your $150 investment has a $25k-$35k value now.
  4. Yeah, I was thinking any non-auction and non-LCS finds.
  5. If your copy is at CGC right now why don't you go ahead and request the label note? I think it's a super important "historic" footnote.
  6. I thought in comics the gorgeous babe was always supposed to get saved. What were they thinking?
  7. I've always thought this cover was a Gem. Look closely and you'll see individual body parts flying off the guys in the background. As I recall, in the interior story that corresponds to the cover, the woman doesn't get saved.... she gets her head chopped off.
  8. sacentaur, did you request that CGC make a note on the label "1st appearance of Archie in an Ad"? It's important that CGC recognizes that distinction. Gator told me that TN22 came out a week before Pep22. I've only been able to find a really low grade copy.
  9. On Sept 11 2001 I walked into a LCS and the dealer had an AF15, an ASM1, and a FF1 that had just come into the shop the day before... all in super low grade (all maybe 1.0s). But he also had the TV on. That was the first time I watched the towers fall was in that LCS. I was so distraught that I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on those comics. What a weird day.
  10. How about AF15 in 1.0 I think from your list I'd do BB28 or ASM 1
  11. I have probably owned about 10 AF15s in my life. And yes, I wish I had them all back (I luckily have held onto 3). A couple I purchased here on the boards, one I bought through a collector friend I knew in Atlanta, but most I bought through ebay. Only 1 time in all my years collecting have I found one in the wild. That was 2 years ago when my daughter called me and said a friend of hers thought he had a valuable comic. I didn't think much of it until I showed up and had my eyes pop out at a very nice looking mid-grade Af15. His uncle had died and when they were cleaning out his house he saw a box with comics and recognized the cover on the AF15, so that was the ONLY comic he saved from the box (I wonder what else was in there). He ended up selling it to me. It turned out to be a 4.0 so I'm pretty happy. Anyway.... I was wondering how many of you Silver Age collectors have had the experience of finding a copy of AF15 in the wild. Are there any old timers here that actually bought one off the rack back in the day?
  12. Um... I would be glad to hoard more if I had the money.
  13. You just made me realize, I have never paid more than $5000 for a car (and I'm 55 now) but I have probably spent more than $5000 on a comic at least 10 times. Does that mean there's something wrong with me?
  14. When "Yak Yak" the major motion picture is announced then the difference will matter.
  15. You can get the CF on ebay. It'll cost you $610 (but maybe you can negotiate for a lower price) Mycomicshop is selling the two CF pages individually. You can actually tell they are matching copies if you look at the tape stains. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Fantasy-1962-15-CGC-PG-8th-Page-Only-0273336002-/132217264480?epid=235044371&hash=item1ec8c35960:g:F-sAAOSwZ4dZNf4g http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Fantasy-1962-15-CGC-PG-9th-Page-Only-0273336003-/362000411853?epid=235044371&hash=item5448e7eccd:g:v2EAAOSwuMZZNf1r
  16. Are one of the two backs rarer than the other. Do current CGC slabs reflect the variance?
  17. Here are the other 2 yaks that I got with the collection I just bought. A 9.0 & a 6.0 (6.0 looks like an 8.0, I have no idea why it was down graded so much) I just noticed these 2 FC 1186 comics have different back covers. Is that a common variant for these late numbered FCs? Which came 1st? I like the one on the left the best since it has more Jack Davis art, but Ads pay the bills so I can see why they would want an Ad on the back cover. The CGC label makes no mention of "variant" on either of these.
  18. Have you seen the back cover? What's going on in the upper right? Is that a water stain? In this new AF15 market I suppose $20k might be ok..... with the tape I'd try to negotiate a lower price.
  19. Certainly if the price is right. If you hold your hand up to block the right edge of the book it's a very nice copy, but the tape, the MC, the upper right corner.... what kind of price does the seller want? Current FMV?
  20. Rick, take this photo down.... I don't want to be competing with more boardies for this. And issue 41
  21. +1 I had forgotten about that moment (because I loved the movie so much), but that moment was HORRIBLE! So dumb to have him speaking english there with a german accent.
  22. They sure look like file copies, but the guy I bought them from didn't know anything like that. The seller told me he always bought the highest graded things he could find, and he was right. In the collection I just bought there are about 100 absolutely gorgeous SA & GA comics. I'm sure they're all 9.0 and above. He sent the 9.6 First Romance 2 in to CGC to "test the waters". That comic is the highest graded on the census so it makes me wonder how many other of these are going to be "highest graded". Fingers crossed!
