  1. So all of my photos appear to be too big to attach. Is there an easy way to resize them?
  2. Welcome to the boards. It looks super good. I'd be suspicious of "Extensive Resto". Are you buying it or do you own it already? Do you know it's history (was it your grandfather's)? I think it would at least grade as an 8.0, maybe higher with a press. These almost never come up for auction so there's not a lot of price info. I think if it's legit (unrestored) you're looking at a $3000-$5000 comic. If it's restored then it will value at a fraction of that.
  3. Does everyone agree that Pence copies, at least on key issues, seem to be gaining some ground in both respect and value, or is that still under debate?
  4. I like this person Gadzukes thinking. We need more of this kind of analysis Truthfully, I think you could argue the difference is closer to a total of about 1.5 square inches. That would make a Pence copy literally 99.9% identical to a Cent copy. However small that % it is, it's enough to make a HUGE difference in the price - North American version vs UK version... Agreed.... the rarity of the Pence Variant makes it worth much more.

  6. Just for fun here's a different way to look at it.... Approx 99.71% of a Pence copy is indistinguishable from a Cent copy. Here's my math: -An average Marvel early 60s comic is approx 6.75" x 10.25". -The surface area of each page is approx 69 square inches. -Including the covers there are 20 printed pages, so the total surface area of the comic is approx 1380 square inches. On a pence comic the 3 different areas of the comic are the indicia, the price circle, and the date area. I will be generous and say those areas constitute an area of 4 square inches. (I'm measuring the full indicia..... the actual pence indicia difference is much less) So 1376 of 1380 square inches of the comic are indistinguishable from a Cent copy. Put that as a percentage and it comes out to 99.71% . Add to this the fact that they were printed at the same time using the same paper and inks as Cent copies (but printed at much lower percentage) and I think you have an attractive variant to collect.
  7. An 8.0 went for $19,323 in 2012 An 8.5 pence of ASM 1 went for $16,730 (good deal) last August Anyone have a good guess on the grade of this raw pence? I'll say 6.5. Yes I'd agree on that so actually probably a good deal I wish I would have seen it, I would have bid it up a little more. The TOS 39 looked like about a 5.5 to me, so another pretty good deal. I used to own the 7.5 pence TOS 39.... I wish I had it back.
  8. "UK Edition" describes what they are perfectly. -J. A "UK Edition" would have all UK advertising in it like many other UK comics that have American comic stories. These are "US Editions" that are priced for the UK.
  9. I'm sure those must've looked right smart. I bet they just mailed you a black felt marker with instructions. Can you imagine how stupid these must have looked? These old ads are hilarious.

  11. So the Voldy 4.0 ended at $17,650. That shows you what "Slightly Brittle" pages can do to the value. The cover was really nice though so I thought it might go higher.
  12. I was quoting from the Pristine Comics dealer report - he (assume also an American) used the term in his Overstreet report The fact remains however, they are literally a "price" variant. But am fine with "UK edition" as clearly I'm not foreign Touche! -J. Agree with you Jaydog - these are indeed "foreign editions" and not "price variants". They weren't sold in the same country and weren't priced in the same currency. Whatever, the fact remain they ARE American comics priced for the UK market. UK editions are generally reprints printed in the UK for the UK market, learning the difference may help you to understand, if you don't care either way then stop posting about it and spreading mis-information which is half of the problem I think the correct term for these might be "Currency Variant" or "Pence Variant" since every other aspect of the comic is American. I don't like "UK edition" since the only thing different is the price.
  13. A complete raw Archie 1 just ended on ebay. By my estimation it was a 1.5 (although the seller listed it as a 2.5) It ended at $17,109. I bid $11,100 with 8 seconds left, but it wouldn't even take my bid because 2 other bidders went over $17,000. I thought I was going to snag a nice deal, but got crushed. Any boardies get this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/122294673179?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&autorefresh=true There's a 4.0 ending in 7 days. It'll be interesting to see where it ends up. It has slightly brittle pages so that will affect it. It's a Voldy so I'm not going to link it.
  14. I'm torn between 4.5 & 5.0. I would grade it personally at 4.5, but I think it has a good chance at a 5.0 with CGC unless there's something on the inside that we're not seeing.
  15. Wow, are these numbers for real? This is like 8k for piecing it out. That seems like way too much or am I crazy? Some of the wraps were from a 2nd copy. The total came to $6106 (if you use the lower sold prices). Still $6106 for what amounts to a .5 copy is outstanding I think.
  16. These are all awesome. This has the potential to be a great thread.
  17. I finally saw it last night. It lacked a lot of the SW magic for me. But the last third of the movie was really nice as it led up to the start of "A New Hope" The CG Leah didn't look great to me, but I didn't care because it was a very poignant moment with CF's passing. Tarkin's CG looked surprisingly good to me. My wife didn't know he was CG. I really liked the blind guy & his friend. They could probably do a spinoff movie just on those 2.
  18. There's a thread on this in the Comics General : http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=9723223#Post9723223 Looks like it was a CGC 0.5 Thanks, didn't see that! Well it all makes sense now! Any PGX books are a shoot, but any graded in the past few years are almost certain trouble. 1.5?
  19. Did everyone see the remaindered cover that sold on ebay? All-things-comics has been cleaning up on ebay with two AF15s that he has parted out. Some of the pages he sold twice (not sure what that's about, draw your own conclusions). If you add up the cover plus the 16 interior pages (using the lower sold prices) you get a total of $6106. That's a pretty nice return on a stack of individual pieces plus a remaindered cover. Here's the list. All of these are from All-Things-Comics -Remaindered cover went for $2026. -page 2 went for $420 but then sold for $405 -page 3 went for $586 -page 4 went for $800 but then sold for $405 -page 5 went for $620 but then sold for $480 -page 6 went for $740 but then sold for $536 -6th wrap went for $1625 -page 7 went for $66 (kind of shocking that it went so low) -centerfold wrap went for about $500 -page 10 went for $105 -page 11 went for $112 -page 12 went for $382 -a different page 12 went for $350 -page 13 went for about $250 -a different page 13 went for $210 -page 14 went for $148 -a different page 14 went for $111 -page 15 went for $120 -page 16 went for $94
  20. I love this story so much. The Police are there to protect and to "serve". Sometimes the "serve" part is serving up a gorgeous 7.0 Hulk 1. That's a sick book man. Congrats.
  21. What are the odds that the same person will win both copies?
  22. I'm missing the non couponed part of the centrefold and the last 2 pages, the Siegel and Shuster letter. In your effort to complete your book any extra's of those particular pages? Nope, I feel like I got really lucky on that 2nd wrap. I see interior single pages for Superman 1 all of the time, but it never seems like Page 31 & 32 ever come up. I still need a CF to complete my other copy.
  23. Here's my newly completed coverless Superman 1. I had to marry wraps from 2 different copies to complete it. Does that mean this is a "Polygamist copy"? My photobucket account isn't working, so I'm trying Flickr out but can't get the photos to appear here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/147204610@N02/shares/5hmNY0
