  1. +1 In the contest last month there was a single book [showcase 35] with the same water stain on back/front, and I guessed 4.0 (I'd kept guessing low prior to the round so I increased my guess from 3.5 to 4.) Turned out CGC graded it 3.5, and most contestants got it right at 3.5. Which is usually what books with such a waterstain end up grading out at. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=9513336&Board=50&fpart=all&gonew=1#UNREAD Although 1) we don't know whether interior of the Showcase 35 had stained pages, and whether CGC will give higher than 3.5 if interior is clean like this Thor, and 2) such a key book as Thor's intro. might earn a "key bump". Thanks for that link. When I compare that book to mine I believe mine is much nicer, however it does give me perspective about how much CGC slams waterstains. I'm now thinking 4.5 for my comic, but shouldn't be surprised at 4.0. I know for a fact that 3.5 would be much to low. You simply can't hold this JIM83 in your hands and think 3.5, it's simply too nice of a comic.
  2. There is no water damage to the interior whatsoever. I would be ecstatic to get a 5.5. It certainly looks at least that nice from the front.
  3. Colors really pop on this cover. Yes, it's the same JIM83 that deezy21 posted a couple weeks ago. Thanks letting me buy it deezy.
  4. I picked this up from new boardie Deezy21. He found a nice OO collection and this was the only comic he was willing to part with. It was posted on this thread a couple weeks ago, but I thought I'd repost with new photos. The colors REALLY pop on the cover and the gloss looks fantastic. Cover and cf are firmly attached. Spine is really nice. 1/4" split at the top. Water stain on back cover (does not touch the interior pages). Hint of a water stain on the front cover at the top. The lower left corner of the back cover has a slight sun shadow. SO many JIM83s were originally trimmed right at the "83" box, so I like that there is a good 1/8" margin on the right side of the comic.
  5. Wow does this thread need a bump. I picked up this beauty over the weekend. The colors really POP. From an original owner collection that was recently found (not one of the comics in the collection were bagged and boarded, which shows this collection probably wasn't touched for years)
  6. If you found these raw and not bagged or boarded, I for one think you are looking at a pure Original Owner collection. They all almost certainly are unrestored. Congrats. We are all going to drool as you show us close ups of the comics.
  7. Love this story already. I can't wait to hear what else was in the box and how many comics there were. Were you able to find out anything else about the previous owners of the house?
  8. GPA 1.8......12 month average = $2530 2.0................................= $2898 2.5................................= $3109 3.0................................= $3652 3.5................................= $3569 4.0................................= $4504 Get a subscription to GPA, it really doesn't cost that much.
  9. Care to explain why you regretted submitting your books to them? Was it because they came back graded too loose or tighter than what you were led to believe by most comments here? Or was it due to slow turnaround times, poor communications, insecure packaging for shipping, etc? Or was it simply because they did not look nice and were not compatible with the rest of your slabs since the others are all CGC slabs? Your post just left a lot of unanswered questions that should probably be clarified a bit more. By the tone and context I presumed that he simply got a disappointing, cut-rate price for the slabs when he tried to sell.... -J. If you want to debate a point - bring data, bring fact, bring healthy tension. And accept the fact from time to time you'll be wrong. In this particular episode of jaydog gets his panties in a bunch - you clearly put words in someone else's mouth (slanderous ones at that). You get called out on it, and to defend yourself, call attention to an unrelated thread (or, peripherally related at best), serving to do nothing but confuse the issue. Not to put words in someone else's mouth, but since I was the one who had asked the question. With these responses to my question, I went back in my mind and gave it some more thought. I believe I remember a comment from gadzukes in one of the threads about the new case holders that was kiboshed by CGC. I believe that it had nothing at all to do with grading or the reselling of the slabs. He was just sad to see them in a different holder as he was a loyal CGC customer and all of his slabs were from CGC. I also believe he is more of a collector as opposed to a seller. But just going off my memory and maybe gadzukes will come back and answer the question more definitively for us. Even though I love my CGC'd books, I was curious enough about Voldy that I thought I'd send a handful of SA comics their way to see what the experience was like. -The TAT was horrible. Perhaps it was when they were having their slab plastic problem. I was used to CGC'd books having long TATs so I thought the one thing Voldy would have over CGC was their TAT. But they didn't. It took a looooong time to get my books. -I actually think the Voldy books were graded ok. I was hoping for better (don't we all). -My biggest gripe is the label. I just don't like it. When I opened the box I simply wasn't excited by the "look" of the slabs (I still don't like it). -Finally, when I looked at the Values of my Voldy slabs compared to the same grades of CGC slabs I got a bad feeling in my gut. At the time I was comparing values, the Voldys were going for waaaaay less. I just felt I had wasted my money. That was the "regret" I mentioned at the top of these quotes.
  10. But a Voldy 9.0 AF #15 sold for $237K this past spring. http://scoop.previewsworld.com/Home/4/1/73/1012?ArticleID=176921 And a high grade Suspense 3 also sold well in a Voldy holder a year ago. Uber high grade examples of mega grails that only come around once in a blue moon isn't going to tell you much. A sample size of "1" is obviously not enough to establish a control. We certainly have plenty of other examples of Voldy selling at a discount however, and it is certainly possible, if not likely, that the same AF 15 in a CGC holder would have fetched an even better price. -J. I read somewhere here on the boards that Voldemorts seem to be catching up in grading tightness. Is that true? I did one submission to them and I really regretted it. Now that CGC fixed their slab/wave problem I'm definitely back in the fold.
  11. Take that spine roll out and you have a 5.0-5.5. Really nice book
  12. I'm curious... how large is this painting? Beautiful by the way. So jealous.
  13. So, what do you think..... did the old bittys in the 2nd photo deem that the Web of Mystery was suitable for youngsters?
  14. Saw this on ebay from 1955. LOOK at all those amazing comics!!!! Are these going to be burned? I love the 2nd pic with 2 old prudes perusing Web of Mystery. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-COMIC-BOOK-Orig-Photo-NEGATIVES-2-4-5-DesMoines-Iowa-Wonder-Woman-Voodoo/252510260192?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555012%26algo%3DPW.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D38702%26meid%3D231eb40f08af4d89b323c011c89cc8f6%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D15%26rkt%3D24%26sd%3D191948524791
  15. +1 Personally I think it was originally under graded. 5.5? Should have been 6.0 or 6.5. And now it seems to be over graded.
  16. when one comes up at auction, do you allow other people to ever win it?
  17. I was at the bank today and decided to snap a pic. Sorry it came out so bad.
  18. I was at the bank today ad thought I'd snap a photo which turned out to be a really bad photo. Two of those Supe 1s have repro covers.
  19. Here's my 3. Married CF on the WW 3.0 The other WW1 has color touch, and the AS8 has color touch and a married CF. So happy I have them. I used to have a 1.8 Sensation 1. I have no idea why I sold it. I want it back.
  20. I think if Dr Strange can do Antman numbers at the box office it will be considered a huge success. I remember after watching one of the last Harry Potter movies and marveling at the "magic" special effects, I thought OMG they with the advances in CGI they can finally do a great Dr Strange Movie!
  21. Thought I'd post this old Archie Ad here. It's an early one since it's advertising Jackpot 4. Notice Archie's hair is Blonde and not Red. He was new so his hair color hadn't become iconic yet.
  22. Here's a cool old Archie House ad for Jackpot 4. Notice his hair is Blonde and not Red
