  1. Hated the 1st 3 episodes.

    BUT, I really liked this last episode. It actually engaged my brain a little and had a nice balance of humor.

    Good pacing too.

    I still don't like the wonder twins, although they were slightly less annoying in this episode.

    I actually can't understand what the Wonder Twins are saying and that's a problem, because I know if I can't understand then then other people can't understand them.

  2. The note is: 6 siamese pages cut apart. Name stamp on 1st page.

    I'm glad I picked this up some years back, before the recent run up.

    I have never seen the "siamese" note before. I've always wondered what that was called. Better that they were cut apart than torn apart. I would have been scared that CGC might have called them trimmed.

    great comic. One of these 9.0s sold for nearly $10k a month ago or so.

  3. There's not much marketing data on raw Playboys. There are some CGC sales noted on Clink. From what I can ascertain, unless you have uber graded slabs, from the first couple of years, there's not much value. Decent stuff from the 60's may go for 10 - 20 bucks a book. The stuff from the 70's is really common, probably 5 bucks a book. These are just guestimates from my experience at buying them occasionally.

    So there's not really any key issues to be on the lookout for?

  4. I know Playboys are not comics but I wasn't sure where to ask this question.

    A friend of mine just inherited his dad's Playboy collection from the 60s & 70s. He asked me if I knew their value and I told him I'd try to find out. I know the early ones from the 50s are worth something, but after the 1st 10 or so do Playboys really have any value? Are there any issues that he should be looking out for (Key issues from the 60s)?

    He tells me they're in fantastic shape (but we've all heard that one before).

    I'm not sure if I should advise him to have any of them slabbed or not because I just don't know much about their value.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  5. For me, this cover always stands out as a favorite!

    And because I am incapable of scanning a slab (tips welcome), here's another look.

    I also really love the golf cover on Archie 12, but don't have time to pull it right now.

    That might be THE Veronica cover right there. What a great drawing.

  6. Top 10:

    1= Archie 1

    2= Pep 36

    3= Archie 8

    4= Archie 50

    There's the start to my list. I need to find the best Veronica cover to add to the list.

    Here's another reason to like #8

    This is the PIn-Up drawing on the inside of the front cover of #8

    So you have great Betty art on the front cover and great Veronica art on the inside front cover.

  7. Holy cow, that's a pretty dramatic example.

    Do you mind telling us what it was graded in the PLOD?

    When I got it it was a 5.0 PLOD, it had already had a little scraping done. I could tell that someone had already tried doing what I wanted to do but got impatient and decided to cut their losses and just sell it as a 5.0.

    I'm betting it was originally a 6.0-7.0 PLOD.

    I'll try to find a pic of it before I had Matt do his CT removal.

  8. Yeah, the bottom of the back cover brings it down in grade, but still this could have just as easily have graded at 4.0. I've seen 4.5s that don't look this good.

    Scan through the Heritage Auction archives and look at ASM 1s in the 3.5 - 4.5 range and you will see that yours is one of the better 3.5s

  9. Usually they're not so harsh on Marvel Chipping. With such a gorgeous spine I would have thought it would have graded higher despite the chipping. Your photo is a little fuzzy so maybe I'm just not seeing the flaws.

  10. I think the winner of the BB28 in tonight's Heritage auction is going to be disappointed. Based on the high bids, someone is clearly planning on removing the small amount of color touch on the spine, but I think their blue label grade won't justify the high price they paid. A small amount of color touch ain't so small.

    Have you checked it in hand?

    No, but I was once told by a grader at CGC that a "small" amount of color touch is about half the surface area of a nickel. I can't see that much color touch being scraped off that book and it still achieving a grade that justifies the current bid.

    Removing color touch is always a risk even when it's "professionally done". I bought this Af15 because it had the designation of "VERY small amount of color touch". The word "very" should indicate less color touch than the designation "Small amount of color touch". I made the mistake of not calling CGC for the notes on mine. I assumed it would be a dot or two of color touch but this is what my comic ended up as after the CT was removed.

    I will say that I've had two major victories with CT removal where the CT did in fact only constitute a couple of small dots of CT on the spine. It's truly a risk/reward type of thing.

  11. New addition I got a few weeks back with Stan the Man's sig :)

    Beautiful! As nice a book as you will find in that grade -- otherwise looks like a 7.0. Bravo.

    Yes, gorgeous copy. I was scrolling down the pic thinking "How is this a 1.0?" and then I saw the bottom. Personally, I like to take these gorgeous but flawed copies and have them restored. They can usually get a really high grade when they're finished.
