  1. I think one of the main concerns is how this could adversely affect the current Marketplace, and by using a sub-forum for Auctions, this would allow a "test run" without the potential of disrupting the popular BIN format we have here. Combining them is just pure stupidity, and even the staunchest auction advocates should be able to see that. I'm not in disagreement. I think, however, that before we request a sub-forum, we need to beta test here to iron out the problems...and make sure it's actually worth the effort to sub-divide down again.
  2. I just love how anyone who a) requests an Comic Auction sub-forum or b) might have some issues with turning the forums into EBay... is automatically categorized as NEGATIVE!! Don't you ever think anything through, weighing the pros and cons before you do it, or are you constantly running headlong into any random idea that pops into your head? I think you might get a better audience response, Vince, if instead of simply jumping up and down on the problems, you also offered potential solutions that could be thrashed out. I've not said I want to run an 'auction'. I'm not yet convinced it's a good thing. But me, I'm willing to try to bring together ideas and wrestle with potential problems. Try it sometime...you might even like it.
  3. I had only one other thing in mind other than selling the book of course...it's called having some FUN! Then I think we should arm wrestle for comics. Who is the wimpiest board member who would still have some sweet books that I could arm wrestle them for? Oh yeah, and on a more serious note, if the consensus is to try an auction style format, why not give it a try in the next VCC? One post per seller in the 'hall' with no opportunity to reply. Unless you used the VCC 'foyer'?
  4. There's nothing inherently wrong with what we've been doing...it works wonderfully well most of the time...but this can help both buyers and sellers. A seller lists a book at a price with a grade. Maybe he's over-egged the grade. Maybe he's a bit out of touch with pricing. There's a buyer who wouldn't mind the book, doesn't want to be seen to 'lowball', but doesn't agree with the grade or doesn't want to pay quite so much. Now, if the book doesn't shift at the fixed price, if the seller wants to move it on regardless, he lets the market determine its worth/condition by running it 'auction style'. And the potential buyer gets the chance to pay what it's worth to him.
  5. Sorry? You think this is going to be giving CLink a run for their money? The way I would see it is it's an opportunity to shift stuff for much less than you would list it here for...and potentially taking a bath...with the occasional 'hot' book making you a bit of your losses back. Oh, and it might actually be a bit of fun...although I think rule 6 (a.2) does suggest we keep that sort of thing to an absolute minimum. Sure, that's exactly what I was saying. Obviously I was comparing the CGC Board sales, where books regularly go for 40% to 50% of guide, to CLInk. Glad you made the connection. So what the were you saying?

  7. Who are you referring to? I'm the only one who's suggested running a test. I am referring to those who would surely abuse the privilege of having a "free EBay" to hawk their auction-style wares. (thumbs u Well said Joe. It's not the "board elite" that will be the problem. It's the 2000+ new members that will have the same rights to post auctions that will be the problem. OK...so don't let them? Maybe this could be a sub-forum and posting rights are limited?
  8. Who are you referring to? I'm the only one who's suggested running a test.
  9. So you really believe that you would be able to auction off 20, 30, 40, 50+ books in a SINGLE thread? I'm pretty quick, but that would be an absolute nightmare to administer. As a buyer, it would be difficult to know the current price for each book, as it's not being updated in real-time. I envision multiple threads and far more "board noise" than you. Also, each and every bid would drive those "auction threads" to the top of the forum, and soon there would be no more BINs on the front page. The reality is that the boards are not designed for real-time auctions, EBay is. Yeah, fair enough...there is that.
  10. That's the real problem, suddenly everyone thinks this is EBay and starts auctioning off everything and the forums "go to the dogs fairly swiftly". It all comes back to "accepted board behavior", which if you were just to take a quick perusal of the For Sale listings, obviously does not include pure auctions. This is something the board members have developed over time, and is a common trait of all forums. Can someone count the number of auctions currently running in the Marketplace, and a rough estimate how many (non-charity) ones have taken place over the last year? I can't remember any, as the vast majority of people are smart enough to understand the implicit behavior expected, and play within those confines. Vince, I'm one of the last people to support a 'free for all', but... I'm stumped as to the down-side of listing twenty books in a tightly controlled 'auction style' listing as opposed to twenty books posted with an asking price. Only one thread used, each book could have a starting price and a BIN, there would be a firm close on everything, all bids must be in the thread... I'm failing to see much difference, but I might be missing something?
  11. I might do a bit of 'beta testing'... Unless anyone's going to take real offence?
  12. I'm on the fence with this. I can see how the whole thing could go to the dogs fairly swiftly...and more of that around here we certainly don't need...but I'm not certain it's against specific guidelines. If you were to list an item with a start bid and a 'Buy It Now', that would surely address the issue of stating a price you would accept?
  13. Hey, it's only comics. Best of luck, Thomas, and we'll sort things out when you can find yourself some stress-free time. (thumbs u
  14. Huh? Shouldn't that be precisely what you're doing? Guaranteeing the grade and that the book is not restored? Or have I logged onto eBay by mistake?
  15. What do you expect from somebody who grades this a 6.0? ...and this as an 8.5...
  16. Very light stain I missed plopped a 9.4 to an 8.0 we need a pooping gramelin You mean we haven't already? God knows how many times I've used this one incorrectly, then...
  17. Let's see...5...7...5... nice! And now another! Two threads on this foolishness! What? No pressing talk? Did somebody say pressing? on the left Lucy Pinder. :cloud9: Are you hoping to give her the Nik 'bump'?
  18. Sorry to hear that. Yeah, the request for a back cover scan after the sale would raise red flags with me, too. However, if he hasn't yet read the PM with the scan, I suggest you sit tight. I've been led to believe that some people actually have lives beyond these boards, although what that might be like, I have no idea.
  19. Bob, I think that the original 'injured party' has to request their removal, confirming that the original transaction has been mutually and amicably put to bed. And don't forget...one swallow does not a summer make.
  20. Ray Charles could have seen it He did. He graded them.
  21. So...what was your actual question for the forum?
