  1. I'm still curious about these "first of a genre" books. I thought this thread could provide an interesting look at the early days of comics.
  2. This issue features stories by... Reese (Small Illo) Bode (obviously) Steve Ditko (Two stories) Roger Brand Ed Paschke (Pinup) Wrightson Pearson The most beautiful fully painted story by Betty and Gray Morrow Kenneth Smith (BC Pinup) Most all of the other Witzends have fantastic stories by Wally Wood. Thanks for the info! I think I learned of these through the Jay Kennedy book, but never read a copy of Witzend.
  3. Would you care to tell us the artists featured in the Witzend you posted? I know some incredible names contributed to that series. As for your question, theagenes kept a thread in GA where he posted a few pages every day or so of a Jon Carter comic strip from #30 - 56, when the series was ended. I'm not sure if that falls under different guidelines. That was a great read for anyone who didn't follow it.
  4. What's the difference between a Movie Comic and movie adaptation? Some time back someone posted about Tim McCoy Police Car being the earliest movie in a comic, not the title listed.
  5. Interesting cover for a comic titled Fantastic Four. I'm curious about this, too. Maybe it's an anthology type book featuring a few different stories from other characters.
  6. I was going to comment on the bidding bias towards daddyyankee over china-man, but the price probably has more to do with the CGC vs PGX thing.
  7. That's a real beauty..... One of my favorite books period. Congrats!!! The centering on this one Kevin is awesome !!... OMG! +1 That is so nice. Thanks for posting it!
  8. Hepcat, just curious about soda flavors...did you have something called "birch beer"? It was a red color I used to get as a kid, and here on the west coast no one seems to have ever heard of it.
  9. I've certainly enjoyed this thread. It has been the highlight of the forum for me.
  10. Welcome to the boards. You'll find valuable info throughout the forums here.
  11. Depends on whether you're the harvester or harvestee I would guess.
  12. Send them to PVC, they may not notice That will be some fun reading! Nice score! (thumbs u
  13. There's currently a comics room on display in the Silver forum. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=5458831#Post5458831
  14. I understand the staples could come from anywhere, but what's the deal with the clearer image of the "bald man"? I've never seen either copy in person, just find this interesting.
  15. That desk makes a remarkable centerpiece to the room. Nicely done.
  16. Maybe #146? I'm not sure if this had a low print run or held special interest content wise, but this always lists at a higher value than most of the run.
  17. Loving these WWBN covers. Great reads, too!
  18. That's pretty cool. I've only read 2-3 Mads published prior to the early 60's so it's interesting to see this.
  19. I suppose this is the reason why CGC doesn't grade these. My guess is you'll need to find a collector or dealer who has handled this book previously, and they may be able to authenticate by the paper quality or some printing detail. Was this part of an OO collection?
  20. I agree. I would have given this a 9.2 just due to the cover wear. Not sure what's going on here with the higher grade.
  21. I'm guessing "yes" if the trimming is detected. As DiceX mentioned if you cut the pages apart that would also earn a PLOD, but if the cut was not detected it would be a blue label I'm thinking.
