  1. I think that if you're going to look for people to "break out", they have to do more than comics, or have a status that's beyond comics.  There are a limited number of names that I can think of like that.

Maybe someone like Chris Ware or Jamie Hewlett.

Or someone who's appreciated by the non-collectors.  Like Alex Ross.

Actually, Mickey Mouse is not particularly relevant as a functional character. He is mostly relevant as a brand name/trademark for Disney. How many times in the last 20 years has someone said: I gotta see that Mickey Mouse cartoon? People just don’t care much for “Steamboat Willie” anymore. Similarly, who still reads Horatio Alger stories even if we know the name?

As someone with kids, he's a very big deal.

The thing is entertainment is very segmented, if you don't go over to Disney jr you'd never know, but Mickey, Minnie and the gang are alive and well

Had to Google "Garden State Comic Fest"  - didn't realize the Motown show was upon us.  I'll be there for sure (what a roundabout way to find out about a con)

Funny, I was fiddling with the site this weekend hoping that they had a mailing list to keep up to date, but it looks like you have to keep track via social media.

Stinks, I keep missing the one at Great Adventure, which looks like it could be fun.

$8200 for the Perez X-Men Annual page is surprisingly high and must be a record for a non-Infinity Gauntlet page.

Wonder if it was Liefeld flashing some of that Deadpool movie money!

He's posted on Facebook several times that he collects pages from that issue.

Anybody ever successfully dealt with Artgerm Collectibles customer service?  I've been trying to get my Detective #1000 damaged copy replaced.  I've gotten a response from Artgerm Collectibles that a return label will be emailed to me on 5/23, but somehow I've gotten nothing from their end.  I've emailed them a couple times about the return label status, but again no response...

It took a bit of pestering but I did get my label.  I sent them in about 2 weeks ago and have not heard a word since, thanks for the reminder that I need to see when my replacements are coming.

I have a bad feeling i'm just going to get 9.8 rejects or someone else's returns and wind up with copies no matter what though.

  6. Another fine print thing about Paypal.

Partial payments are not eligible for buyer protection, so if you have the person send over payment #1 and note it in the notes / invoice, then a 2nd payment a week later or whatever, they can't screw you over.

I found this out as a very young collector when I sent a bunch of money as payment 1 of 2 to an artist in Brazil and then it took nearly 18 months to get the art.  I contacted paypal to get my money back after month 6 and they told me i was SOL.

That's why I used this specific example: same single artist. So "if only one" you'd want the ink, not the pencil?

that was not clearly stated in your post at all.  I had no clue that page above was the same penciler and inker.

  8. A big part of it for me is who worked on the physical object i'm holding.

If it's pencils and inks by the same artist, give me the inks (usually this is only if they do digital pencils and then physical inks, like Jorge Molina or Mark Brooks)

if it's inks by a different artist, most of the time, I'd rather have the penciled page vs the inks.  In this hobby the penciler is more prominent figure in the creation process, and I want their step in that process vs the Inker.

I've had pencils and spent years finding the matching inks, but never gone after the inks 1st then look for the pencils.

I got the three cover raw set.  My golden age is a likely 9.8, the virgin is likely a 9.6 with an outside chance 9.8, and the "standard" cover is likely a 9.4.

Cool, I finally got a response and sent them back.  Hopefully the replacements are not just 9.8 rejects.
