There are a handful of sellers that I trust on there, but the majority do overgrade books IMO. And the site has always offered inflated shipping costs relative to what actual costs should be.

Unique CGC label error.
MadGenius replied to Impulse :)'s topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
For this reason, I'd like to see the Signature Series forms be available online. Hopefully this is something that CGC is considering in the near future. -
Who are you using for preorders these days?

Unique CGC label error.
MadGenius replied to Impulse :)'s topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I just looked at my invoice history for the past 6 months. I've submitted 37 books including the 2 book reholder that they messed up by transposing the labels. I had 4 label errors out of 37 (10.8%) and that is not counting the one that was cracked. Small sample size, granted, but a 5-10% error rate seems about right based on my experience over the years. Is it bad luck? Possibly, but I've submitted enough books over the years for some of that bad luck to even out. It hasn't. In my opinion, an error rate of less than 1% is what I would expect, but I feel they are above that figure. And this is just QC/label errors. Don't even get me started on the various accounting errors I've experience over the years. I like the CGC product and they always, eventually, make good on these errors so I keep coming back. BUT, I would like them a lot more if I didn't have to deal with these sorts of this on a semi-regular basis. -

Thank you, Sean and Shane. It's in everyone's best interest that CGC improves in the QC department. How much time and money was wasted with this one submission that had to be sent back twice? Mistakes will happen, but if CGC had ensure they are minimized then that is better for their bottom line and will engender more good will from their customer base. -

MadGenius replied to Impulse :)'s topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Yes, whatever indeed. For the record, these have already been sent back. Now I have to battle accounting to have the credit for my return shipping applied to my account. Also, this would be the second time I've had to send these particular books back in for a reholder. The first time they missed a signature on the label for the book that was signed and the one that isn't signed showed up with a huge crack on the back on the slab. I should have had both of these in my possession over a month ago, but the comedy of errors with QC has resulted in me having to send them back twice. This is kind of par for the course and not an isolated incident. Rarely do I get a submission back without any label errors or slab damaged from shipping. -

What makes you think something is wrong? Looks fine to me. -
Saga 1 9.8 ripped in CGC case
MadGenius replied to Jo Seph's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
If you've ever open a CGC case and removed the book you'll notice there is a bit of static electricity between the cover and the inner well. If you hit the case hard enough the static electricity will keep the cover in place, but the interior pages will move with the force (and take the staples with them if the force is great enough). I've seen this a couple of times with the newer case, but apparently the same mechanism is in the place for the older slab design as well. Sadly, this book is now nowhere close to a 9.8 any more. It is in the lower to mid grades with the popped staple. -
Marvel Super Heroes v2 #8 1st Squirrel Girl 9.8 Newsstand
MadGenius replied to Parallax3600's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Yes, I own three of them. They are fairly rare, but do show up from time to time. The market price doesn't seem to differ between Direct and Newsstand, but I love my newsstand copies nonetheless. -
I will say that the last straw with DCBS was when my April preorders arrived bound with a rubber band. I do pay extra for bags and boards, so thankfully no damage occurred to the books, but I feel like this practice is a disaster waiting to happen.

I've switched to Midtown for July preorders. Still two more months of shipments from DCBS in the meantime, so I'll cross my fingers that there are no issues.

Why are all of the people in this guy's life incapable of buying their own comics? -

The request for a partial refund of $100 seems like a huge red flag. He needs the $650 for rent, but he can spare $550? His rent is only $100?? Something smells rotten. -
I like the new slab and thought about reholdering all of my books. Then I realized it would cost me about 4k to do that. I'm not thinking about doing that anymore.
