  1. In the George Lucas biography it says basically Lucas gave Disney outlines for the movies and they ignored those and that Lucas believed that when he sold that he would still be involved but once the deal was done he was out. Thank you!
  2. Yea, but why? Is it the public statements Lucas made around the time Force Awakens came out, or is it something else? If I were Iger, I'd offer Lucas the chance to be the keeper of the lore, but only under a very specific set of conditions that I'm 99% sure Lucas would never agree to. Bear in mind it is only my impression, that when Disney bought Star Wars they were selling it as Lucas was going to have nothing to do with it any longer. That's all I meant really. I think they looked on him as a negative asset a la, 'we're going to make some new movies but don't worry, Lucas won't be involved like in those pesky prequels'.
  3. What makes you say that? For him to be the keeper of the Star Wars lore he'd have to be into it, and he clearly wasn't when he owned his company himself. I don't see why he'd suddenly be inspired to continue the series after selling it to Disney. I can't speak to Lucas' motivations just my impression of Disneys.
  4. No doubt, but that's just Lucas throwing his two cents in. They'd need more work from him than a few ideas, they'd need him to be an actual producer or screenwriter. But like I said, if they tried it I doubt it would work since he doesn't play well with others. Without knowing much of the history, I got the feeling that Disney wanted to pander to all the haters of the prequels. Maybe not overtly but the subtext was there and resulted in the irony of Star Wars being tarnished by association with it's creator. In the beginning, it seemed like the mouse wanted nothing to do with him.
  5. Sometimes though, that is all we had. If anything I liked how both Han AND Luke lost their way but both redeemed themselves in the end. I don't know how old @theCapraAegagrus or the rest of you are, but at 44 I do think of certain life choices that I have made and wonder if it is worth. I work in a career path where the majority of us in my specific location are terribly unhappy and cannot wait to get out. I personally get Luke. Sadly, I know a lot more TLJ Lukes than I know ANH Lukes. I liked how RJ portrayed this. Maybe I saw what he was trying to do by making the audience identify and relate with the characters in that heroes can become broken and then redeem themselves. I know of a couple of people that hated TLJ because they did not like the aspect of Luke losing his faith. One such person was the cop that lost his marriage over the job. TO ME... Johnson boiled the TLJ down to one thing, that no matter what the odds, no matter who has lost their faith, no matter how bad it gets, there is always hope. This is demonstrated with the end narration and the scene with force sensitive kid and the broom. The overall movie was actually very good in my eyes. I agree that there were cringeworthy and hokey elements such as the Jedi Breast Pump. But I loved the casino scene. I loved Del Toro's character and how he shrugged off 'sides' of a conflict as the good guys are the good guys one day and the bad guys the next. There is a lot of great stuff in TLJ for me and the more we talk, maybe I can offer more insight as to why I hold it in such high regard... at least from my perspective. You make me want to see the movie again. I have avoided it to date because there was little point if I'm closed off to it but I am well aware of some of the triggers that took me out of the movie the first time. Albums should always be listened to more than once and as often as you can stand before reining judgement. Most of my favorites were pretty flat first time around. I'm going to give it a go and see if I can keep an open mind.
  6. He trusted his instinct... Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. There are many instances in Star Wars where people went on instinct and broke from the plan. Why, one time this scrappy kid from this desert planet, got behind the controls of a starfighter and shut off his targeting computer when attacking this space station. But they didn't commit mutiny. It's a personal beef, I'll give you that but playing the mutiny card should not be done lightly.
  7. I can understand that. However in my experiences, what breaks someone can be perceived as minimal to others in comparison to what that person has already overcome. I had no problem with Luke losing his way. I agree with you that after losing his parents, Aunt and Uncle, his hand, discovering his lineage and bearing responsibility for his father death, he still persevered and maintained hope. However he did that because he believed that what he did was for the greater good. Then when that greater good seemingly crumbled he realized the greater good was not what he thought it was. When Ben turns, it was all for nothing... This is what breaks Luke. That made sense to me. Heroes are fallible and they should be. Otherwise it does not create a compelling story. In the last few years I reconnected with a childhood friend over facebook that made a certain career path. They sacrificed and lost a lot because of this career path. Then, something happened within the career that made them say that the career was not what they believed it to be. He lost his faith. He was clergy. I know of PD and FDNY that have sacrificed their marriages, love of their children, watching their children grow up all the while believing in the calling that they have undertaken. Then they see something that sours the job for them. They have become broken. For one friend who was a 9/11 1st responder it was discovering that he had brain cancer and him telling us that he did not know how long he really had left and that he wasted so much time with a job that at the end of the day was not worth the sacrifice. People no matter how strong they are... can become broken. Even our greatest heroes can break. It's allowed. They are human. Luke broke. This was interesting to me. Two good posts here... I have to admit, I wanted better then for Luke to be a lost soul.
  8. It's all in good fun I would hope! As much as I pretend to dismiss them as simple movies, I find I still get caught up in the excitement! Hopefully we can all step back and have a good laugh at ourselves as well!
  9. Mutiny is in and of itself a big deal. It requires development to get there, you can't just disagree with something and do your own thing. It's a bad narrative which results in Poe being a insufficiently_thoughtful_person imho. It's hard for the rebellion to have any credibility if something like mutiny can happen so brazenly. The narrative is on Johnson though.
  10. I have only seen TLJ the one time, but Rose was no problem for me, I enjoyed the character for the most part. Poe, on the other hand was a very one dimensional, idiotic/annoying character - 'look at me, I'm Poe Dameron, all I do is shout intensely, ignore orders and commit mutiny at the drop of a hat, follow me, I'm awesome!' If Johnson really wanted to subvert expectations he would of had Poe arrested for treason and that would have been the end of him for the trilogy. If Disney had any sense at all they would have handed the new trilogy over to Monty Python so they could have squished him with a big foot. Who knows, maybe that's how they get Palpatine in the next movie.
  11. Yeah, I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed the first movie. I really wish they would go with more animated features all around - talking about all studios here - as it really hits at what comics do well at their own medium. The live action stuff is getting tired for me for the most part. By far the best Spider-man movie to date imho. If they can keep up this quality, I can't wait to see it.
  12. I shouldn't be excited and yet I kind of am. The thought of Palpatine or Vader somehow tying back into this episode has me intrigued and hopeful and if not, still curious. I'm not looking for the greatest movie of all time here, just a bit of plot and intrigue to hang my hat on and have a fun night out with the family. We shall see.
  13. I appreciate your opinion here, but I didn't get the vibe that he was putting the Joker (the movie) down at all. Just my take I guess.

  15. It would be nice if people took a wait and see approach to seeing RoS so Disney would have to earn their billion + dollars by making a decent flick.
  16. I don’t know, 3/4 completely reshot going up to just a few weeks before release? 6 endings all testing unpopular? These are of course anonymous sources (which these days to be fair usually means fake news) saying this. And obviously no major film media outlet would dare speak ill of Disney so likely we won’t see anyone from the classic 20th century media report on issues even with iron clad proof...we will just have to wait and see the final product. I sure hope it's not true, otherwise it's going to be a fiasco. I figured the only way out of the mess they got into with this trilogy - if you can call it that - was to make a good, stand alone movie. As much as possible anyways.
  17. I think 98% of academy members would be of a similar mind. So I would ask, how is that at all surprising and why get upset about it? Comic books strength is in their own medium (by leaps and bounds I would say but that would be another argument) and fortunately for me I came into them long before the current era of movie making. I can only imagine the disdain I would have for them if I were introduced to the concepts through these movies. I would miss out on all the brilliant artists who have worked in the field over the years. The best of comics can't really translate to other mediums and to think it even comes close is to do a disservice to our beloved hobby (i.e. only the most superficial elements make it through).
  18. As much as 'Goodfellas' was one of the best movies ever made and Scorsese only had Henry Hill to work off of, and I've watched the movie at least 3 times a year since its release, it didn't convey the truth of the Mafia, it was rife with mistakes, at times the dialogue was confusing like when Hill is narrating Morie's death, also what type of Gangster pulling million dollar scores is telling his wife to go on welfare when he is in the bin? In that regards the psychological message Scorsese is trying to convey is that crime pays, which it does not, both psychologically and financially. Scorsese is being dishonest, and choosing sides. Hollywood is about money, always has been and always will be, and if a film can fetch you a billion dollars than it's a damn fine film. Careful what you say, you find yourself on a deserted island with Avatar and Titanic.
