I found that really interesting too! I'd wager there's a pretty small club of comic book characters who have had a parody of them released prior to their own debut. BTW - it wasn't by Todd, it's drawn by one of CBG's regular contributors (can't recall who at the moment, I'd have to check)

Do you have a source for where he refutes that? Every source that I've watched and read (all listed in my bibliography) has a consistent story.

That comic is not actually a small / ashcan version of Spawn #1 - it's a totally different book. It was released along with two videos that were produced by Stabur following Comic-Con 1992 which took place in July. The videos (and the comic) didn't actully release until the 4th quarter of 1992 (direct sales) and the 1st quarter of 1993 (retail sales. So I'm afraid any indication that the comic was released prior to Spawn #1 is incorrect.

For the most part, proxy bidding is like a preview...the real action comes in the live auction (whether it is actually live in person, or "live" real-time online). In the live portion, It's run like a traditional auction. There is an auctioneer who announces the lot, commences bidding, calls fair warning, and then ends bidding. "Sniping" like on ebay is not a possibility. You often have multiple bidding options for the live auctions: in person at the event, "live online, or phone bidding. For most auctions, I bid online, but occassionally, if it's something very important to me, I bid via phone bidding. I've attended one in person (which is the most fun!). Don't forget to factor in the buyer's premium, shipping, and taxes into your math when determining what to bid. Good luck!

I had to make my own list I started collecting the international versions in 1997, and I just completed the set (for #1) last week...so through all of that, there was a tremendous amount of research done. I contacted McFarlane early on, but found that they didn't have very complete records unfortunately. So, I spent years contacting fans in other countries (usually by joining local comic-collecting message boards). I contacted international publishers for their publication info, and occasionally (when I was lucky) to order books. I made friends all over the world that were willing to help me in my search. I've been hunting issues 1-10 per country, but I'm still missing 10 issues total. Some countries that I thought would be 'easy' to complete (such as Australia) turned out to be pretty tough. Some countries are next to impossible: India, Philippines, etc. I chased rumored countries for years until I got definitive confirmation from locals that they were never published there (Russia). Sometimes, when I thought I was getting close, I'd discover something new and it would add additional years (!!) to my search. It wasn't until a few years ago, for example, that I learned about the multiple printings in Germany. Along the way, I've catalogued every discovery on my site spawnworld.com for other collectors to use. All in all, it's been an amazing collecting-adventure. If I knew then what I know now, I would have only aimed for issue #1 instead of #1-10...but I'm getting close!
