  1. If you want to learn more about Spawn newsstand issues and their variants, I created a very in-depth guide that can be found here: http://spawnworld.com/features/The Definitive Guide to Spawn Newsstand Editions.pdf
  2. I found that really interesting too! I'd wager there's a pretty small club of comic book characters who have had a parody of them released prior to their own debut. BTW - it wasn't by Todd, it's drawn by one of CBG's regular contributors (can't recall who at the moment, I'd have to check)
  3. Do you have a source for where he refutes that? Every source that I've watched and read (all listed in my bibliography) has a consistent story.
  4. That comic is not actually a small / ashcan version of Spawn #1 - it's a totally different book. It was released along with two videos that were produced by Stabur following Comic-Con 1992 which took place in July. The videos (and the comic) didn't actully release until the 4th quarter of 1992 (direct sales) and the 1st quarter of 1993 (retail sales. So I'm afraid any indication that the comic was released prior to Spawn #1 is incorrect.
  5. Thanks! It's been a fun dig. After decades of seeing lots of random items dubbed "Spawn's first appearance" on eBay, I decided to try and get to the bottom of it.
  6. Do you know what Spawn's true first appearance is? You might be surprised... I've just completed a deep-dive article over on SpawnWorld into the beginnings of Spawn. Follow along on the timeline I've created which chronicles every major appearance prior to the release of Spawn #1! It's the culmination of almost a year's worth of research. Have a look here: http://spawnworld.com/features/firstappearance.htm Which do you think is the true first appearance?
  7. It's a black and white cover gallery http://www.spawnworld.com/books/miscellanea/oneshots/thanks.htm
  8. As the title states, I need help looking up some info inside Comic Buyer's Guide (CBG) 955 and 957. Does anyone have these issues in their collection that would be willing to look inside for me? Thanks very much for any help
  9. I've looked, but haven't found any unfortunately
  10. I've had zero luck finding any of these. Does anyone have any recommendations on retailers or sellers that might have some? I've obviously checked ebay, milehigh, and mycomicshop.

Beautifully painted Aliens splash page by Den Beauvais from the Dark Horse comic is up for sale on Heritage....auction ends tomorrow! https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/denis-beauvais-aliens-2-splash-page-21-original-art-dark-horse-1989-/a/7231-95025.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515
  13. Auction is this Friday! Likely the only McFarlane Spawn art from 1992 that will ever be sold. On Facebook, Mychaels had this to say about the piece: "I don't regret much in life...but I regret selling this in 2001" Responding, other industry vets chimed in: Chance Wolf: "I specifically remember that collaboration! I and many others may have been a bit jealous of that historic moment Awesome piece! Sorry it slipped from your hands!" Brian Pullido: "Epic!" Dan Fraga: "Damn!"
  14. Mike was a pleasure to deal with - fast, easy communication, and really willing to work together to make a great deal. Highly recommended!
  15. Yes indeed. That's a Special Edition from France (printed in 2001): http://spawnworld.com/books/international/france/semic_ongoing/semic_ongoing01b.htm
  16. The earliest piece of McFarlane Spawn (McSpawn?) art ever sold is currently up for auction on Heritage: Auction link: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/marat-mychaels-and-todd-mcfarlane-spawn-6-pin-up-original-art-image-1992-/a/7231-94087.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 News articles about the piece: https://comicbook.com/comics/news/early-spawn-art-by-todd-mcfarlane-up-for-auction/ https://bleedingcool.com/comics/earliest-todd-mcfarlane-spawn-original-art-sold/ Spawn #6 page #23 full-page pinup from 1992. It marks the first time (ever) that McFarlane collaborated with another artist on his "new" character, Spawn. - McFarlane has kept all of his Spawn art, so this is the only piece of McSpawn art ever to be sold from 1992 (the year of its debut). - The next closest McSpawn art on the market was from issue 20 from 1994! - Full page pinup features huge image of Spawn, with his nemesis Malebolgia brooding in the background. - Signed by McFarlane in his famous “scroll” signature (also signed by Mychaels, twice)
  17. Definitely a record...but Linda Ronstadt and who? It takes two afterall. Something doesn't add up on this one.
  18. For the most part, proxy bidding is like a preview...the real action comes in the live auction (whether it is actually live in person, or "live" real-time online). In the live portion, It's run like a traditional auction. There is an auctioneer who announces the lot, commences bidding, calls fair warning, and then ends bidding. "Sniping" like on ebay is not a possibility. You often have multiple bidding options for the live auctions: in person at the event, "live online, or phone bidding. For most auctions, I bid online, but occassionally, if it's something very important to me, I bid via phone bidding. I've attended one in person (which is the most fun!). Don't forget to factor in the buyer's premium, shipping, and taxes into your math when determining what to bid. Good luck!
  19. I had to make my own list I started collecting the international versions in 1997, and I just completed the set (for #1) last week...so through all of that, there was a tremendous amount of research done. I contacted McFarlane early on, but found that they didn't have very complete records unfortunately. So, I spent years contacting fans in other countries (usually by joining local comic-collecting message boards). I contacted international publishers for their publication info, and occasionally (when I was lucky) to order books. I made friends all over the world that were willing to help me in my search. I've been hunting issues 1-10 per country, but I'm still missing 10 issues total. Some countries that I thought would be 'easy' to complete (such as Australia) turned out to be pretty tough. Some countries are next to impossible: India, Philippines, etc. I chased rumored countries for years until I got definitive confirmation from locals that they were never published there (Russia). Sometimes, when I thought I was getting close, I'd discover something new and it would add additional years (!!) to my search. It wasn't until a few years ago, for example, that I learned about the multiple printings in Germany. Along the way, I've catalogued every discovery on my site spawnworld.com for other collectors to use. All in all, it's been an amazing collecting-adventure. If I knew then what I know now, I would have only aimed for issue #1 instead of #1-10...but I'm getting close!
  20. Finally complete! Every Spawn #1 from around the globe. 59 versions total (plus an error copy), from 29 different countries.
