  3. RIP...one of the greatest performances ever on BR.....just amazing
  4. John has just published American Comic Book Chronicles 1940-1944...it is the BEST book out there, I also own the 1 1950-1959 Volume , as well as 1960-65. 66-69 etc. I cannot recommend any book any higher...these are fantastic. If you go to the website you can flip thru and check out the book.....its SUPER
  5. the other issue raised by the "employee" was the fact that it took several months to generate a issue and by that time the political controversy had died, that news had accelerated so fast...but if Mad could use an end of the year summary...with people looking back it might be more relevant. I agree with him...with a new owner..it always comes down to one thing...the bottom line...I give it a year before total shut down.
  6. always my favorite thread from SDCC...the best of the best
  7. what a book.....great to see it in person, it was I think 1972 was the last time I saw it in a stack of timleys that Nick and Mike had just bought and taken to Berkley Con..72/73
  8. At SDDC talked to a couple of Mad soon to be ex-employees....seems the merger with ATT did not help and there might be some inventory left that can be printed for the first time on annual issues....
  9. SDCC has changed agree with chuck and support his quest for human rights, but he still has MILE high prices...
  10. One must assume we will have some major ups and downs over the next 25 years. One major factor is a connection between the physical comic book and the buyer. The real turning point will begin with the elimination of the printed comic book from the major publishers. First I see the comic book going into the graphic novel. Worldwide comic hero awareness will increase which is a good thing. Recently on other theads, Mad will stop with issue #10 with original content and possibly have new content on the annuals etc I see this going towards the graphic novel approach.. That is a mirror of things to come. Here is my take: 5 years from now: prices and demand are still very strong and increasing , the OA will survive the coming economic correction which will be deep but short time wise and quality pieces will be the least effected..The George Lucas LA museum will have worldwide impact on the OA market exposing a TON of new interest and collectors and get record attendance as well as continued box office gold for comic related movies and tv shows. 10 years from now: Grail pieces get record prices, which we will shake out head looking back to today. Low tier art will be in demand and keep its value or increase sightly. Mid-term type pieces just retain their value with no price growth. Marvel is still the #1 movie studio in the world.George Lucas and other museums are aggressive in getting significant pieces. Many price records have been broken 20 years from now: Comic Art is sold thru all the major auctions houses. A Frazetta painting breaks $10 million dollar barrier. Grail pieces are courted by the major auction houses. George Lucas, cash flush from so many admissions is the largest buyer and collector of comic art. Other Major art museums begin buying and activity seeking donations of all comic art to increase attendance, In year 12 Superhero movies hit a low point, but a major hit from an independent publisher gives the SH movies a second wind, 25 years from now: Grail pieces retain their value with no price growth looking forward, mid-type items lose 75% value but there still is a market to sell if for the right price. Small items lose 90% or value ..no demand give away. I reject this gloom and doom, I remember when EC art was hot then went cold , then went hot..as it is now......Yes some items, like a Hulk cover for 600K are set up losers...no matter what the market is, BUT quality will maintain value and demand thru the next 25 years.
  11. or maybe they dont want their current subscribers to know.....and it will be interesting to see if they accept future ones after #10
  12. thanks....I hope the last issue will be special....any idea of the contents????
  13. Scams make E=bay a shoot for both buyer and seller, my general rule and I have bought not sold thru e-bay..is unless you are dealing with MCS etc....be prepared to lose money, especially to folks with little or no feedback. You might want to watch out for craigslist in the area you sent the books and you might want to provide a list of what you sent.
  14. if he comes back and gets approval for $4500 so be it, it appears it a consignment piece....wait and see what happens and if you get your 10% off
  15. Just plain incredible...the quality of Freas and Mingo....today a pale shadow of the current covers...nothing can touch that and which was neglected by DC for the last 20 years..with hopes of some time of new Mad show......Does anybody know what was Bill Gaines last issue? Feldstien?...just curious...thanks
  16. His rational appears to be " you pay more than item can be bought elsewhere or over market" because he has the biggest selection and you need to pay more because he owns 10 million comic books....something is wrong with that? What happens when you decide you sell that item and you don't own a 10million comic sized collection?..how are you gonna recover the overprice paid....
  17. Great film in my opinion, and I saw it when I was 13...great special effects...especially the crosswalk...."Don't Run" classic... I thought Michael Rennie and George Hamilton were outstanding. A HD versions of the film was on recently on TCM....and I think there is or gonna be a HD disc.....Cong on great artwork
  18. 550 issues is quite a run...interesting that the first 23 were the best in my opinion....
