  1. I love George Perez. I really do. Yep, never seen Perez be anything other than warm and charming.
  2. I've had the good fortune to meet many creators and have hosted a few at shows. The nicest guys I have encountered would be; Dan Slott, Chad Hardin and Jonathan Ross. The only unpleasant one I can think of is Alan Davis who seems to be permanently grumpy and monosyllabic.
  3. The damage on this book is weird. We ordered sufficient copies that they came all boxed together, (not mixed with any other titles) and I would estimate that maybe as high as 40% of copies had what I can only describe as small dents or impressions in the body of the cover. It also wasn't limited to the copies on top of the box (which is where damaged copies are usually found) but randomly located throughout the box. I'd be interested in the cause as this is quite atypical of how we usually see damaged books.
  4. They were available for pick up on the 25th if you live near their store. I live literally down the street from the shop so I picked up my stash that day. What I am inferring is that there are those of us who paid way up front and should have been the ones to get their purchases first(by pick up or by shipping). Why? I don't recall that there was any mention of that happening. You paid early so you were sure to get a copy (or copies). Not sure why you expect anything above and beyond that.
  5. Midtown has a tendency of doing this & I think its stupid. As long as you get money for a book you were planning to sell, what difference does it make if I buy 4 copies now or throughout the day? "Give people a chance to get one." Um, no. If they wanted it that badly, they would've gotten it as soon as the store opened up. You snooze, you lose. Because for every whiny nerd complaining that they can't buy multiples there is a whiny nerd complaining that the shop shouldn't sell multiples.
  6. Mythopolis Mythopolis didn't look this good(except for the Dancer cover which I think drove prices), didn't read this good, and never came out with an issue after #1. And you'll be waiting a loooong time for number 2. I really hope no one here is sitting on stacks of these hoping for a big payday. Haha, I bought 2 each of the Dancer and I think 1 other cover. If I remember correctly, I sold a set for $20 and didn't let go of the 2nd set because I thought it had a shot. I found a Treasury Enourmous today! (and my 30 something copies of Mythopolis. Thanks Branget ) Well, Myth 2 is written but no artist is attached at present. Part of the problem with books like this is that they would probably have a shot with publishers like Boom or Image, but unless you are Kirkman or Someone of that level you are looking at two years plus to get on the publishing rota.

  8. Yea, a lot of work, like you would have to own a comic shop or something, huh? If you own a shop and have time to kill, then you might as well (if it's time that isn't being put into the business). For the majority of people that don't own a shop, here's the thing... If you enjoy what you do, it's a hobby, and it's not taking away from other commitments (that and you have little other interests to replace this with), then by all means. However, everybody should factor your time; I expect to get paid for sacrificing the things I enjoy away from work. Two other points: 1) You need to look at professional development (for me pursuing industry designations is very important to my career lattice), and this can be anything that provides value to your career (either technical or social). 2) You need to consider all alternatives in doing anything that's 'profit-driven'. I've had a number of investment articles syndicated, some that I threw together in a few hours that I generated between $50-100, some I spent the better part of a week on where I was paid $150 and $500. The latter was produced for discourse among industry professionals, and the reward of seeing my concepts put to light. The point is, there's lots of ways to make money (really a mess-ton), and before you take on the hassle of trying to grind out a few bucks here and there speculating on books before they hit the stands, ask yourself, is there something better you could be doing with your time? I think you deserve a punch in the nutz just for using the term; 'career lattice.'
  9. Getting £25 sterling each for Satellite Sam Tijuana Bibles! I guess having something banned always helps demand.
  10. Also i forgot to ask How do you know they decided to double store variants ? Do you have proof to back this up ? If they doubled all store variants that means all the stores got a bill 2 times higher than they originally planned. I know marvel didnt double there orders for free. Let me know You 'know' that? really? I just love the way people on the boards make these sweeping statements with such certainty. As a retailer who did an ASM variant I can categorically tell you that you are 100% wrong.
  11. I got Stan to sign a Foom 17 a couple of years ago. I think it is the perfect thing for him to sign and it's probably the last thing that will ever leave my collection even if it isn't the most valuable. Too bad it wasn't a Foom 2. Wolveroonie!

  13. Yeah, yeah, you are so right, that Berni Wrightson guy, complete flash in the pan, we'll never hear of him again.
  14. Odd. They were really, REALLY nice quality... look at all the 9.8's on da bay. loaded I'm up in Canada. Maybe the ones that made it to the retailers up here got damaged? I've ordered the book 5 separate times from the same retailer, and the best I've gotten is a VF. Clearly that seller doesn't know a NM from a hole in the ground. 1. VF is NOT 'mangled' 2. no retailer owes you a 9.8 on a new book.
  15. We put our pre sale up for the various ASM1 covers last night and had 3,500 attempted orders in the first 10 mins crashing the server. Midtowns, Orderable Campbell's, Ross's and Blanks are all in high demand. I predict the 3 Spidey Cambells from Midtown will be HUGE and no one is even sure what the third book in the set will be yet. (my money is on Spidey 2099 but that is just a guess). Don't say you weren't warned.
  16. I read Turok today, not bad. I will pick up at least the next few issues......but WTF is up with 36 covers of issue #1?!! LMAO Not kidding folks....35 variants = 36 covers. Disgusting Talk about a cash grab. Do we have to do this every time a new book comes out? Cash grab? Yes, maybe. Disgusting? No. Not even close. If this is the sort of thing that disgusts you, you need to get out more. If you are unhappy with 36 variants, then just buy one, or don't buy any. It's unbelievably simple. So fricking tiresome having to listen to this every time. No collector has a divine right to own every copy of a book, so if it's too expensive to try and do so, then don't. It really is that simple.
  17. The fact that I can clearly remember buying that off the stand when it came out makes me feel very old
  18. That was filmed months ago. I'm sure those guys caught on right away and jacked up the prices. I don't know about months ago. EoW #7 was in the background. But also in the same episode the most annoying one didn't have his forearm tattoo that he got a few episodes ago. @ the most annoying one. So true. I wonder if those guys are on this site. I actually hope they are. Maybe it will make them understand just how lame that whole series is. I watched a few episodes from Season 1 and it was so bad I just quit watching it altogether. And I had high hopes for it too.... Honestly, the only reason I watch it is to see what comics and toys they bring in. Walt and Bryan are just nerds who feel they have a bit of power because they pick on Ming, who is clearly the smarter, cooler, and nicer one of the bunch. And Mike has not said ANYTHING in this season. I think it's funny, two, that people sell to them. It's TOTALLY just to get on TV. Why else would someone sell an item that they could get $100 on eBay or Kijiji for, for $35??? the show has an opportunity to expose a larger audience to comics an instead they have chumps on selling mr t sprinklers and dukes of hazard . oh well, at least they had scott snyder in studio. Because we 'know' comics we can easily see how certain things are set up or even faked altogether on this show. We kind of understand that other reality show are set up to some extent but we notice it more on this one because we have more knowledge about the subject matter. These types of shows are light entertainment at best and if CBM reflected comics retailing/collecting more accurately, we would like it but it would lose it's broader appeal to the non comics audience. It is what it is. About the show, are they not allowed to mentione CGC or something, or even grading for that matter??? Whenever they get a graded book, they NEVER EVER mention the actual number grade that it has, they just mention "in this condition" like it's a raw comic. which episode had a graded book in ? The one that springs to mind is the ep where our very own Baltimore Lauren took a slabbed early Archie book into the stash to sell. I'm sure there are other examples as well.

  20. I got two copies of this book. Both variants. Don't know where he got retailers out that discussion. Go cry somewhere else. Internet tough guy and a comic nerd? Nice combo!
  21. I love the irony of hearing all the people on here who talk about retailer price gouging when they are the ones hoarding mediocre Image number 1's to stifle supply, then talk them up on the boards to create a false demand and then sell them at unnaturally inflated prices. The hypocrisy is astounding!
  22. I was working a busy show this past weekend so only just gotten around to reading this. Really enjoyed it. Loving the historical/monster aspect and agree this would make a great tv show. As usual, I only own one copy and we've sold out at the shop so no vested interest in liking it. Can't wait for issue 2.
