  1. Where did the new one on the census come in at?
  2. You're definitely closer than I realized. Between us we would have all but four issues - and lots of duplicates. I have picked up a number of issues over the last 6 months of so.
  3. Thought I would share this with the group, the results of a local auction house in the US that put up for auction an amazing GA collection, including some super sweet Planets. I discovered this about two months after the auction ended, I still get nauseous thinking about the sweet deal I missed on this one. Scroll through the auction, it will probably make you feel sick too, unless of course you were the buyer of these books. http://quinnfarmer.hibid.com/lot/20961166/planet-comics--15--november-1941-?cat=0&sort=6&hide=0&qs=0&view=0&aView=0&selCat=0
  4. Of course it was, Brian! I hadn't meant to suggest otherwise. Your witty comment made me realize that he is the only boardie I'm currently aware of [with the exception I just realized of Steve Fishler] with a complete set now that cheetah has sold up - unless mikephoen completed his (I've not seen Mike post anything new in a while). jbcomicbox has the cover art to Planet #1. I'm not sure how many of the run he owns, but I think he has some Larsons. I also dimly recall he had some publisher's bound sets of much of the run. Otherwise Mike is probably closest to completing. jhutton2, kelholt and I might just have a set between us. Along with Artboy99, I think that's about it for those of us for whom Planets are a specific collecting focus? Among dyed in the wool Planet collectors, who am I missing? adamstrange has a wonderful group which is mainly Spokanes. sacentaur has great copies of #1-#10, and at least two - #3 and #5 - are Larsons. [steve once posted a story about a guy who had a complete Fiction House collection many y ears ago, who had gone to prison for killing his wife, and sold his collection to make ends meet after his release.] I'm not sure how many BangZoom has, but his copies of early numbers are great as well. Fifties seems to have a fair few, I suspect whomerjay, Inaflash, scrooge, jayman and October may as well, and last time I looked, so did Mr Bedrock. skybolt sold his I believe. I know there are many others with wonderful runs, so no disrespect intended to anyone I'm forgetting. But are there any other complete sets on the boards? Or for that matter, off the boards that anyone is aware of? As for me being a nitz, unfortunately there is no denying it. I found the perfect definition: 'A Bossy show-off who can't stand not being the center of attention, a loudmouth person_too_unaware_of_social_graces who tries to order people around even through he's not a supervisor' hey, thanks for the mention. I have about another 25 or so issues to go to complete the run, mostly in the first half of the run. Most are already slabbed, with a few raws I intend to send in for grading. Its been an on going quest for quite some time. I do have an assortment of some very nice gems making up the books I have, with most books being in the 7.5-9.0 range. I still have a number of very challenging gaps to fill issue wise, as you can see in the bottom of my sig line. Getting closer though. Putting a lot more focus on completing this run recently, so hopefully I will have a complete set in the next 2-3 years.
  5. Sean was great. He purchased a Silver Surfer #4 book from me. He paid quickly and was always pleasant to deal with. I would welcome another deal with him anytime.
  6. All these Planets are making me want to spend more money...
  7. Bought some nice early Amazing Spiderman books from Jeff. Smooth transaction all around and excellent packing. I would welcome the opportunity to deal with him again in the future. Kindest Regards, Jason
  8. Not sure of who else is Canadian on the list, but you can add my name to that list. Cheers Jason
  9. , I have no inside info on the Nelvana purchaser and would not even take a guess. I was being facetious on my part regarding the Bruno comment. They only thing I can say with some confidence is that when exceptionally high prices are reached for books at auction, there always seem to come to market additional copies from other owners looking to cash, this is what happened when Suspense #3 prices went crazy. Given the relative scarcity of Canadian whites, not sure this will happen or not, will certainly be interesting to watch though. Cheers Jason
  10. Purchased a pile of bronze age books from Tyler. They were well packed, shipped quickly and he was a very easy individual to work with. Thanks! Jason

  17. Took me a bit to pay this off, but now have it in hand!

  19. I am going to say this is a bit higher than a 5.0 at 5.5 Very nice book and welcome to the boards. Cheers Jason
  20. If the person has no interest in the item, which many sellers I have encountered do (estate sales etc.), often they are just lazy and don't want to bother investing the time or energy to see if anything they have is worth any money or not. This is often the scenario where people get taken advantage of, as outlined as possible scenarios in the posts above. Bright people who have no interest in comics have a difficult time fathoming that books can be incredibly valuable. I remember going camping and a friend of ours years ago and is a senior executive, he was talking about an article he was read in our local paper about the sale of the Davis Crippen collection. I had read the article as well, and it referenced one of the batman books that had sold for over 16K. As he talked about the article, he was amazed that the entire "collection" was worth over 16K. I corrected him that the 16K was only for a single book. He thought I was pulling his leg and could not believe that a single book could ever sell for that much. When I told him the range of what the entire collection was worth, he was absolutely speechless. Non collectors just don't know and often take at face value what the first person tells them that it is worth.
  21. Super fast payment and always a pleasure to deal with. Welcome back any time Randall. Cheers Jason
  22. You outbid me on this one by $25 Congrats on the book, its a beauty Jason
  23. Received an original art piece I purchased recently off of Comiclink. It is by Luis Royo, one of my favorite artists who is well known for his fantasy genre work. This is a mixed media piece, and presents even more nicely in hand than my phone camera can capture. Going to get it framed and up on the wall later next week!
  24. Picked up some very nice silver age books and a couple of Fortress holders from Mark, items were packaged well and shipped quickly.
