  1. Yes. That and a recent higher interest in Adams Batman over GL.
  2. Are teen titans 1 and 2 considered bronze?
  3. I bought all tha comics he had. So so common for sellers to tell you what they think you want to hear.
  4. He has a bunch of baseball cards supposedly from the 1960s etc. Nolan Ryan Rookie perfect condition. OK sure. Then why did the baseball cards he brought out were all 1985 and newer. No thanks. Funny thing also was he had old 1980s ish porn. Yeah yeah I ignored the magazines OUI Hustler etc. I'm not a big fan of that anyway. And here's why. He had some old Traci Lords videos and advertisements, which really are very valuable but unfortunately the valuable stuff is her early work which puts her under age 18. To even get close to that illegal activity is just a bridge too far. I kind of have mixed feelings about that. It is part of our history and almost pop culture "Debbie Does Dalla" and all that followed. Yeah it's porn but walk down Times Square or New Orleans during mardi gras. Also there's the Joe Staton stuff from the 1950s which is comic related. Lurid but interesting.
  5. Comment on a second deal. Guy calls about a collection of 400 comics that are all #1 issues. Asked about dates and he says mostly 1980s but some 60s and 70s about 100 or so. I prime the questions with "is there a Star Wars 1?, She Hulk? Nova? Ms Marvel?" Oh yeah I have all those - if there was a number 1 issue I bought it. Man fantastic and highly believable as I've run into many collections that were like that. 10 years ago they were $2-4 books and not a big deal. Now they're $40 books for each one. Also he said that he priced them 10 years ago at about $2100 but he knows he can't get that and would sell for $800. Perfect. The drive is an extra 2 hour round trip so a bit of a haul but so be it. He has the books in 4 short boxes nearly all bagged and boarded as he says. But the books aren't quite all that. Lots of #1's but maybe half are common books. 70's are a few Hulks and Justice Leagues and that's about it. Best books are Killing Joke 1st print ASM 252 Wolverine 1 (1988) Batman and Tec Year 1 and 2 Batman 222 VG and 400 Punisher 1, PWJ 1 and a bunch of other $5 books Some Zeck Caps, Spiderman Kraven story an Xmen 221 out of Xmen 215-240 run. And then 300 generic and random titles. So I offer $50 a box. And pay maybe $60. What was interesting about this was the back and forth. You'd think I was ripping him off the way he reacted. "Oh wow that's way less than they're worth, you think they've fallen from $2100 that much since 2006?" "These have to be worth so much more?" And by the way he lost his job, has a 94 year old mom to take care of and is in need of money, all of which he tells me. Still, I'm kind of pissed he over hyped the books he had. Reading about it or thinking about it without the actual person in front of you can be easy. Hey, you make an offer he either takes it or not, business is business. Being there can be tougher though from two directions. One, I have to emotional detach myself from his personal problems and for that matter his view that he thinks I'm screwing him. Two, I need to stick to my price or I wind up "selling his comics for him" as I like to think of it when I leave myself with no margin. And it can be draining when the guy across from you is a tough negotiator either through pity that you let get through or simply drives a hard bargin. I did let that get the better of me a little as I started buying more stuff from him that was outside my scope. A 1970s skateboard, 1960s games, some sport and non sport cards, and wood shafted golf clubs. What the hell I thought, worth a shot and the guy needs money. Probably not worth my time or money though. But I like doing that and it works out every now and then.
  6. Just got the next Potomac collection installment. Detective 446-613 Hero for hire 1 2 12-117 Werewolf Bn 1 4 10-26 All star 64-72 Amazing adventures 25-40 Astonishing tales Conan 6-80 Moon knight Eternals Dkr 1-4 A few random Batman Aquaman late bronze run Charles vess original art from 1977 for the Wizard of Oz print. a really sweet piece.
  7. With some renewed readers I need to add a couple more posts.
  8. If the vg peanuts 1 closing on eBay today hits 1500 or more then I'll grant it movie influence. That sell sale looks fishy.
  9. Thanks for the reply. . It's not really the key strokes that are the time consumer its the use and operation of the scanner how it interfaces with the driver. With my old scanner on Windows XP I can scan as many in a row as I want. Upgrade to Windows 7 and a new driver is required which does two things bad. I have to scan the book and then to save the image I have to scan it again. Then the software closes and opens the photo editor. I have no need to edit the photo but have to close that and then reopen the scanner software to start all over again. Sure a macro for keystrokes might help but not really if you know what I mean. I just don't want to buy a scanner and have the same problem. Anyway, I just bought the 8300 and we'll see how it goes.
  10. Looking for a scanner where I can take 100 scans without having to open the scanner and save each image after each scan. scan initial image - crop, set scale, color etc, - scan scan scan x 100 - close and save all not scan image - crop, set scale, color etc, - save 1 image. Start over x 100....... certainly prefer a legal sized and clear unmuddied images are a minimum, the later is pretty much the standard nowadays. My HP3970 was perfect but it only worked this way with Windows XP. Windows 7 makes it work not well. Same with Vuescan, I can't seem to roll off multiple scans quick and efficiently, I have to save each one.
  11. Couldn't sell mine on the boards for $1800, had to settle on ebay where it got $1970. Same same. I think all the boardies that want one at recent FMV, have one.
  12. I think the cover is about a big an issue as anything. When the cover "introduces" the character in a big splash it really ramps up the factor as to it being the first appearance as defined by price Hulk 181 vs 180 New Mutants 87 (86 Cable is shown as "coming next issues") Xmen 266 vs Annual 14 X Factor 24 vs 23 XFactor 6 vs 5 ASM 300 vs 298 299 or Web 18(?) Xmen 109 then 120 then 121 is an interesting one too. Hulk 271 vs MP 7 When 1st and 2nd appearances don't include the cover then it becomes really different. This happened as publishers ramp up the teasers too. Teen Titans 2, 3-5 JO 134 135 NG1 FP 1 HIM/Warlock Iron Man 55 to a point. Iron Man 55 it is a clear 1st appearance. I think it helps that it wasn't followed by an Iron Man 56 with some massive Thanos v Ironman (or Destroyer) battle cover. Imagine if Phoenix wasn't on the cover of Xmen 101 and had some crappy airplane crash cover. Arguably Xmen 100 would then be equal to 101 as a two part Phoenix story. Maybe not, but it highlights how the cover defining the character becomes the defacto 1st appearance and also an instant classic cover. Add in tryouts or human before superhero or costume but not superhero all make it interesting and subject to changes of opinion.
  13. Boy 34 Daredevil comics 47 Then you could include War covers with Kamikaze (sp?) pilots in action. Blackhawk 105 Fightin' Air Force #10 1958
  14. All the horror and GGA comics are going to require some sort of trigger warning to any and all who may or may not be sensitive to any issues. Decapitated head cover - OK, prices HIGH Bondage covers - OK, prices HIGH Suicide covers - no good. There's something badass about the over the top horror covers especially given the history of the oversensitivity and Wertham et al leading to the CCA. These are comics. Let's lean towards open expression
  15. Comics cannot legally be sent via media mail if they contain paid advertising. Some people may do it, but it's illegal. Some independent comics or fanzines may not contain any paid advertisements; those books could be sent via media mail. That a simple matter of USPS regulations. (I used to work as a letter carrier.) I had no idea there was even a dispute about that topic; the regs are very clear. The speed limit is 55 mph yet we break that law all the time too. Full stop at stop signs? While riding a bike?
  16. What I collect is awesome, what others collect is .
  17. Female characters are getting their due. Arguably the Wolverine of that genre. How's Hulk 181 done over time? Unless it's a Newstand copy I don't see this as a $2000 book though. Call it $1800 where it has recently leveled off.
  18. Like this one. If you haven't seen / read the story, here it is again. And yes the book sold recently. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8229985&fpart=11
  19. $3k a pt is the floor. $3500 is the stretch.
  20. ALL-STAR SQUADRON 36 & 37 (DC Comics 1984) SUPERMAN vs CAPT MARVEL / SHAZAM Seem to do pretty well. One of those that you can still buy cheap as part of a run and then sell for $15 split out. Superman v Shazam in an off title. What's not to love.
  21. It's ok. And I don't mind being outted as it were. These were shipped media so possible they were opened. Or the weight was high resulting in POd handlers. Bagged not boarded books with peanuts. But a full box with only some room to move around. But move around they did. I think next time with cheap but high grade bulk I can tape them into blocks of sort. Easy cheap and effective. I offered a refund anyway but the postage makes it prohibitive to return which is the only reason I stated no returns in the original post. John did pm me rightfully as a disappointed buyer.
  22. FC 1084 came after Bugs Bunny's Christmas Funnies #7 which I think is the first based on comics.org. Also a 30 cent variant cover But the FC has the cover.
  23. And then you get into the whole issue of Daffy Ducks 1st appearance. Duck Hunt sort of. Similar to Donald Ducks 1st.
