  1. With the lack of comic conventions for the near future my LCS is doing Facebook live sales 3 days a week and tomorrow is a "Magazine Monday" sale.  For those who do Facebook might be worthwhile to check out!  I posted this in the magazine section but thought it would be good to post it under events as well....

Here are some examples of stuff supposed to be for sale.....

@Bearcatcoach let us know how it went if it did happen

Show was run well.  Jeff Harper puts on great shows!

Masks were required by all.  Temp check on dealers at the beginning....not sure on the public.  People social distanced ok.  Room was set up differently so there was more space to move about.

Didn't hear any complaints about having to wear masks.  Attendance seemed down quite a bit but those who attended were spending.  Seemed to run smooth.

Felt as safe as one could in a pandemic I guess!

    when is your next show?

Covid-19 has taken care of most shows unfortunately....but as of right now the Buckeye Con in Columbus on July 19th is still a go.  I will probably process some of the best stuff from this collection for it....but I already have more than enough ready for a great Buckeye show.  I just hope everyone in attendance uses their best judgment to be as safe as possible in these crazy times!

  5. Buckeye Comic Con coming to Columbus OH Sunday July 19th 2020!

Location: is the Marriott Courtyard Columbus West

    Hours: 10 am - 4 pm

    Admission: $5

Long running show with a nice amount of comics....

Keep watch on the website for any changes.  Ohio's guidelines now permit an event of this caliber but we are now in an ever changing world so late cancellations could occur.

Obviously if you do get out it is recommended to follow safe procedures...wear a mask, don't touch face, wash hands, and use hand sanitizer.

Probably hard to social distance at any event like this but if you go do your best to not crowd others!

I gotta say you find some incredible stuff.

How do you do this so often (it's ok I'm overseas so no competition for you at an auction :shy:  ) - is it years of networking, lucky craigslist or secret honey-holes of small car-boot sales?

You really do have an amazing success rate - keep the scores coming, love to see them!  :tink:

Networking probably number 1....gotta a friend bringing me a couple boxes to look at tomorrow....but auctions, flea markets, and conventions (not so much at the moment) are the main ways I pick up stuff.  Craigslist is not really a source for me...one small buy in all the years looking at drek on there...

Since I don't have a brick and mortar for stuff to come to me I have to continually be on the lookout for it....putting in the time and effort produces success more often than not....

So the high bidder gets the whole box lot of 8 or just one book for his high bid? What happens to the rest of the lot?

Smart to mix in the good stuff with the carp. Sometimes, people see stupid prices on the low end stuff, give up and leave. Often you can get better deals by hanging around. Sometimes not so much.

Those small live auctions used to be a great place to score books. Not so much anymore. Everyone has heard that "comics are worth money" and they usually get bid up to silly levels. I have taken advange of that mentality and consigned carefully put together lots of local auction houses and have done well mixing in a little lower grade "eye candy" with a lot of drek. People just get that "I have to win at any cost" mentality. Paid off well for me.

If a box had 8 comics and they sell choice then high bidder can pick as many as they want times their bid.  So if the winning bid is 1k more likely than not the guy picks 1 book and then they do choice out of the remaining 7.  The Auctioneer then sells choice and let's say $100 is now the winning bid.  Buyer wants 2 for that price so they pay $200.  Now they auction off the remaining 5 by choice again....and so on until the box is done and then do the same for the next box.   Time consuming but choice selling usually earns the auction house more money than selling big lots....

Avon Eeries bought on back-to-back days!

    I know...crazy!

There were several boxes/flats of comics and the auctioneer would bring them out 1 at a time and do choice comic.  The best box had the Tec 122, Bat 62, WW 25, 31, Zoots, Sheena and others.  All sold for more than I wanted to pay.

In between every choice purchase they would auction off 10 other things before they would come back to comics so it was taking a while to just get through a flat.  They auctioned stuff from a few other boxes that wasn't going for much.  Again taking a lot of time.  Most of the guys bidding took off.

The next best box had the Marvel GGA humor/romance books and the horror.  So by the time they brought out that box they just brought out the last 3 flats together and instead of choice comic....they did choice flat!

Needless to say...happy how that turned out....:cloud9:
