  1. Don't send it to Desert Wind. Seriously. I think that they are one of the current facilitators for him. When a certain board member gets some free time and is able to post again he can tell you himself... but from experiences, I would not trust them to put on velcro strapped shoes let alone facilitate a comic signing.
  2. I tell ya his collection is big. I ever tell you how big his collection is? Hoooooow biiiiiiig issss it? I tell you his collection is so big that people run around it for exercise.
  3. @PeteFromPetesBasement would tell you to burn his house down and get someone to take pictures of his children asking them if they think the item should be returned.
  4. If you want, I will help you pick something out.
  5. Black Friday offered double points for VIP members... I had not picked this set up and no one ever discounts it. Bought it, added it to the basement layout. Threw in some superheroes to fight on... and then I noticed the printed window (I would have noticed it if it were a sticker). You will get it when you see it.
  6. I rolled my eyes at my Aunt when she told us a story how an Amazon package was supposedly delivered but she never received it so she contacted Amazon. Amazon replaced it for free. It turns out her son took the item in and left it for her but she didn't find it while he was out. She called Amazon to cancel the replacement and they simply told her to keep both. How many times do you think that happens?
  7. Ugh... All legos regardless of whether they are loose sets or unopened and sealed boxed sets need to be shipped boxed. They are resilient pieces but even a windshield can break if just thrown in a box. There are VERY rare exceptions to this but essentially everything should be boxed. It amazes me that amazon itself ships so many new lego boxes in envelopes.
  8. You would be surprised or maybe not so surprised at how often this happens with toys. As a buyer, sellers have been surprised when I have to explain to them that 35 year old brittle plastic tends to break when you toss it in a bubble mailer and hope for the best. (GI Joe's are constantly breaking in transit.) As a seller, you would be surprised how much of a premium you can sell an item for when you guarantee that a brittle 35 year old GI Joe figure will be sent in a box. I don't understand why this is so hard. I recently had a conversation with someone that asked why they should buy from me when another seller was offering a Joe figure for $5 cheaper. I looked at the listing and pointed out that he had free shipping which meant he might ship it out as cheaply as possible. With me, he was guaranteed for the item to be bubble wrapped and boxed. Made a nice little sale on a vintage Joe and the buyer was happy. Buyer's remorse? I have had it myself. I won't ever return something due to buyer's remorse or that I could find it cheaper, or a better version came up. You are only as good as your word.
  9. With that said, I do offer same day or next day shipping. There are many packages that are sent from NYC before work thanks to the train pulling into a station that is across the street from the NYC Postal hub. However, I am not offering free shipping EVER. Some of the items I have weigh 4-6lbs and there is a VERY big difference between shipping something that heavy from NY to Florida rather than NY to Cali.
  10. Oh, you've dealt with Darin of Aliquippa PA as well?
  11. I do not feel as if a customer contacts eBay first that they must be a scammer. They are free to do what they please and having been on both sides I can understand why they would do that. They might have just gotten burned and want to protect themselves moving forward. Some scammers are easy to identify though.
  12. I don't know if that is entirely possible given the features that Bricklink offers. Originally they were just an eBay carbon copy for Lego, even calling themselves "Brickbay." After a cease and desist, they changed the name and the features. I can upload a collection and piece it out. I can find a set and break it down to the pieces I need for that set along with the ability to directly source parts from multiple sellers. Many places undercut Lego itself? Would there be a mandated pricing structure? If more businesses purchased online retailers in the secondary market, would that be a way to circumvent Kirtsaeng v. John Wiley & Sons, Inc where a textbook manufacturer tried to block sales of their textbooks that were purchased in Thailand shipped to the US and then sold on the secondhand market. The ruling fell in Kirtsaeng's favor. How do you practically overrule the ruling? Buy the secondhand market. Like I said, imagine if Disney bought something like eBay. Let's think about how protective Disney is of their IP. What would be taken down and what would be allowable? I honestly think that this move on Lego's part is going be eventful down the road and not in a way that we look back fondly upon when others follow suit. There is no doubt in my mind that someone is going to one day buy eBay. The question is 'who'?
  13. Or if Time Warner Purchased Comic Connect? Or if IDW Purchased Comiclink? (I debated about posting this but...why not? If it is simply lame then it will fade away. If not then it sparks conversation.) Lego buys Bricklink Today something interesting came over my newsfeed. The Lego corporation purchased Bricklink. Bricklink is the largest dedicated market for second hand Lego bricks. The site operates on an eBay type system where the website profits off of a percentage of the transaction. Yesterday afternoon the purchase of Bricklink was announced raising eyebrows across the Lego community. For one, you basically have the producer of the an item now controlling the major marketplace where that item is bought and sold on the aftermarket. Brothers Brick: Lego Buys Bricklink So what does this mean and what does it have to do with comics? Lego has indicated that for now there will be no change other than removing listings for modified or custom Lego pieces that do not fall within the vision of the company which is slightly controlling the Lego aftermarket. Quite a few questions arise though and relate to how a company can influence it's own second market. What about the second hand selling of exclusives or items that are still in production. You get the idea. The following have been questions that have already been asked, some of which Lego addressed or will address concerning the purchase of Bricklink. However that also parallels what could happen if, say, Disney bought eBay, or if any other comic book manufacturer purchased the major distribution of its own items on the second hand market. In another thread we were talking about the outlook for Brick and Mortar establishments. If something like this becomes the norm how does this impact various hobbies? Where does this take the aftermarket moving forward? Just something I found interesting.
  14. @SpudsOnAHalfShell @Vfactor1 Going to start to close this out. 20% off anything that has not been claimed. I tagged you guys so you are aware.
  15. Depends on the book. This just arrived in the mail. They find things like interesting due to the historical nature of the book and also the age.
  16. I would guess that with each new season, the value of future seasons decrease since they have 30 years of episodes to license out. This is kind of what happened with Law and Order (the original). Why order new seasons in 2010 when they already had Law and Order SVU on at season 10, Law and Order Criminal Intent, Law and Order Trial by Jury and people were already watching 20 seasons of Law and Order reruns? The voice cast constantly want more money with each new season and in the case of Harry Shearer, threaten to quit once in awhile. Fox needed the Simpsons more than Disney. I love the Simpsons but Disney might be playing more toward business than playing toward nostalgia if this article is correct.
  17. "From what I've heard, it is coming to an end" - Danny Elfman on The Simpsons Looks like the house of Mouse might be archiving thirty seasons of the show and pulling the plug.
  18. They really don't though. Up here, as have been admitted by others and one comic dealer, there are fewer collections walking through the doors. There are more people up here each year that are taking the initiative and selling their belongings on their own. I think that we are seeing a lot of people opening up stores trying to cash in on the movie madness and I believe that many of them are squandering their financial health in doing so. When my LCS decided he wanted to retire, as he is around 75, he asked if I would be interested in buying it. He knows I am counting down the days to retirement. (3,869 days). I think he even threw a number out there which was lower than someone else offered him. He really just wants out. I wasn't even listening. As you stated, in the state of the industry, the projected outlook of the industry combined with Nassau County taxes, (ranked 5th highest in the nation as of April of 2018), I cannot imagine taking on a lease and operating a brick and mortar in the New York climate. One thing I have learned through this is that people are indeed very different. Comics trends are varying between regions when it comes to who is a buyer and who is a seller and what they plan to do with their collections. However, with that said, if anyone is visiting New York, please check out our museums, venue, restaurants, parks, history, beaches, lighthouses, (the exchange, Fed Hall, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge) before you go looking for comic shops. There is way more to do here than look for old newsprint.
  19. Oh... Long Island... I finally caught up and watched the Buttafuocco thing... now this.
  20. I took one, not all. I wasn't actually going to sell, I did it to make a point. I am presently sitting here waiting to start a meeting. If I thought the hanging light would support me I would seriously consider hanging myself... to make a point.
