  1. Question for the group: will any of these revelations, and what the auction houses may or may not do in response, affect your willingness to bid in the upcoming auctions? Yes - here is one reason... While I have bid on and won comic books at high dollar amounts, I did so knowing that if I approached any dollar amount that I felt uncomfortable with in regards to pricing per grade, I could walk away and that book could eventually be found again. With original art, if I do not pick it up, then most likely, I will never see it again. Therefore I am more likely to grit my teeth, settle in, and pull the trigger and brown bag it to lunch for the foreseeable future if there is something I really, really want. Knowing that Mike is pulling the strings in some auctions to manipulate the strength of the market for artwork makes me turn away from participating in a system that is really only there to benefit him.
  2. Pretty Big Spoiler... No really. There is a double spoiler tag with information then the pic. You have been warned.
  3. Alex Shomburg draws Frank Sinatra... I had to.
  4. Many times I have noticed that they scan them as 'delivered' before they are actually delivered. I am thinking that a possible reason for this is that it allows them to drop off packages without fumbling about scanning each single one while having to hold onto a bunch of things.
  5. I never really cared much for the original series. Just watched the first episode now and it was very good. I will definitely turn in tomorrow.
  6. Reports from London Toy Fair are in... No pics but here are the descriptions of all sets from now until SDCC... Sourced from www.thebrickfan.com The 2016 London Toy Fair has kicked off and it looks like our friends over at Brick Fanatics has the initial scoop of some of the LEGO sets that have been shown off to invited attendees. 7. What you really meant to say was that you got one of the most awesome Batman sketches ever. I like the dynamic angles and the poses. Barrows really created an amazing piece for you.
  8. Star Wars fans are laughing at this statement, as is Disney... well once they are done counting their billions they'll laugh... No, Disney understands it. They have plenty of properties that no longer command an audience. An animated version of Snow White, the Sequel* just wouldn't pull in the audience it once did. That property wasn't cultivated and brought along. It simply told the same story over and over again. Until people got tired of it. Star Wars has evolved. Sometimes not always to it's audience expectations, but it did evolve. Through movies, through books, through cartoons. It continued to tell the story without constantly relying on the same characters doing the same things or through summer crossovers, etc. What Dark Horse did with the comics was respect the property - what the writers did with the novels was respect the property - what the animators did with the cartoons was respect the property - because they HAD to. It was owned by someone who demanded it. The problem with mainstream Big Two comics is the creators no longer own, or have anything to do with, the characters they created, and the overseers of the characters are businessmen and not creators. They farm it out to creators, but it's so heavily editorialized, especially the bigger the character, that there's only so much that can be done. It's amazing they've made it last as long as they have... In movies, it seems new and fresh to a brand new audience, but how long until it starts to wear thin? Luckily they have a great deal more time with movies to put forth something well done... a monthly schedule of comics is tough to keep up with. Especially when the company that owns them don't seem to understand what made them popular in the first place. And because of it, the fans have begun to flee... Are all mainstream big two comics bad? Not at all. There's some entertaining stuff being done right now, and some of it, remember, is still being experience by new readers for the first time, and they may enjoy it or have a different perspective on it. Overall, I think it could be better. Much better. *There actually was a Snow White the Sequel, though it wasn't a Disney movie. It was a 2007 Belgian/French/British X-rated animated film. Chuck - first I pretty much agree with you. However the classic Disney model is not relatable to the way that the comics are fostered. Disney created its own hype by placing its films in moratorium. The films have been cycled so that they are generational and not perpetually available creating an aurora of specialness about them. There are only 54 films that are considered "Disney Full Length Animated Features." (Their words, not mine). Of those 54, there are perhaps about 1/5th of those films currently in publication or production in some form. Their retail focuses on whatever is currently being cycled with some variance or exceptions. The Disney Princesses come to mind which in the last decade has been a huge marketing campaign. The comics are for the most part serialized with the reader wondering, "What happens next?"
  9. Modern superhero comics, at least the majority published by DC and Marvel, are generally terrible - just so poorly written you have to wonder if quality control even exists. Depends on the direction that they are taking the characters... I just finished reading up to issue 14 of the Slott Allred Silver Surfer run and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Guardians of the Galaxy also come to mind. The banter between characters throughout the Guardians of the Galaxy has also been enjoyable... (I didn't say high intellect reading- I mean enjoyable.)
  10. I'm holding you to this. Ha - I updated the thread title but cannot update the timer until I get home. I am already at work.
  11. Has anyone actually been reading the latest incarnation of Amazing Spider-man? I am reading it just to challenge myself in seeing if I can get through something that is as bad as it is. I do not blame Slott for this. I think that Slott does the best he can with what he has been given. What a mess.
  12. As a buyer, I absorb the cost of the shipping when I am buying. As a seller, the cost of shipping just went up for the buyer. a) I am not inclined to offer as much of a lower price as I would when an offer is made by someone across the country. b) I will raise the prices on a few things that have free shipping built into the listing.
  13. I was placing a Netflix disc in the sleeve when I noticed an invitation to draw... (Netflix wants you to tweet drawings on their disc sleeves apparently) Quick feeble attempt with marker while watching the next offering. I used to have an idea what I was doing until I abandoned drawing for what seems like a lifetime. Ex-Machina is in the sleeve BTW...
  14. Agreed... I may simply download the instructions to get a proper build of the batmobile... If I can get only one it will probably be the Ghostbusters Firehouse... That seems to be the best bang for the buck.
  15. Yellow Claw in general is a tough series to find. I only have an issue 1 and have yet to find another nice one.
  16. Greggy is packing bags and heading to Hollywood Reader's choice....
  17. If Adam Sandler is a ratings goldmine on Netflix... anything can be a ratings goldmine.
  18. Official Images released of the new 60's Bat Cave Full images after the jump FBTB - Bat Cave Reveal
  19. Yes - anyone can edit IMDb - like it or not - Han Solo got off the SW train at Episode VII station.
  20. Someone suggested that as we get closer to Episode IX that Disney will milk it for all it is worth and just like the last Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Infinity War, they will split it up into parts. You could see Episode IX Part 1 and Episode IX Part 2... possibly.
  21. Initial filming on the Irish island, Skellig Michael took place back in September. The Episode VII novelization confirms that the Star Wars name for the planet seen at the end of Force Awakens is "Ahch-To" and is where the first Jedi temple is. Since they filmed the island with Mark Hamill we can officially add this as a location for Episode VIII. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Star-Wars-Finally-Gave-Us-Name-Luke-Skywalker-Planet-103807.html
