  1. Wow, I wish I could have went there, but alas I am stuck in the NW. Great pull.
  2. Great pickup Beige, I wish I could peruse through those boxes.
  3. You could take these to a Kinkos. Have them print on high-grade paper and then seal in lamination sheets. I just might send the pictures to here - http://www.nestedegg.com/?page_id=22
  4. Around 1982 I bought one of these when I was in High School in F+ condition for $10.
  5. At least you got it undamaged. I bought from seller grous.v4tcof a CGC graded book that he shipped to me in a regular manila envelope without any protection. Received damaged and seller claims that he has never had a book damaged in the mail before. I paid $18.70 for shipping and he shipped it first class 8oz for $3.56. Edit: I did get a refund, but what a disappointment. I would let eBay know about the high shipping fees. They frown on this sort of practice.
  6. Great Stuff I'm in the process of finding beater copies with stamps and cutting them all out. There is a perverse pleasure in it. I'll share when completed....good progress so far. Since I have been pulling out the two page ads in the comics that I have been getting ready for binding, I have been collecting up the stamps.
  7. Been making some great contacts with some new local dealers and was able to trade a long box and short box of what he wanted from me for five long boxes from him. He initially wanted to offer them to me for $50 - $100, per box, in trade and he got around $350 in trade from me. He took around 30 of my books that I had marked over $1.00 to around $5.00 and the rest dollar books. I see some from him where I will make up the 30 he took and the rest will go into my dollar book boxes. He didn't need what he brought me and was happy to get what he got from me. We have done smaller trades in the past, but this turned out great and wants to keep doing great business.
  8. None. What streets you been walkin down? Makes perfect sense though. I love me some Scar Jo and the Avengers movies were entertaining, so I am definitely going to go buy the first appearance of Black Widow. I don't read comics at all, but it will be cool to own!... That way when I have parties I can take it out and show people and be like: "look, this is the first appearance of the character that Scar Jo (I do love her) played in Avengers in a comic book!" Then people will be like; "wow, we don't read comics either but that is really cool and a definite wise use of your money because even though no one reads comics anymore this is definitely a good investment! You are so smart!" And I will be like "word." Well, that's a misnomer.
  9. I know that, but it's the same as me telling you to make sure you wear a suit & tie to court instead of boxer shorts and a ratty t-shirt. A needless/useless reminder...it's something you already put in practice and do 100% of the time. If someone's never dealt with you before to experience your shipping prowess, and don't know the people giving you your feedback rating and what their level of expectations were as to shipping quality, how are they supposed to know 1) that what they think is proper shipping and what you think is proper shipping match up and 2) That you ship in a way that they haven't discussed with you and have no way of knowing you do 100% of the time. I've had sellers with 100% feedback and 500+ feedback ship me books that are simply not replaceable in a manila envelope with nothing to protect it. I would have never assumed, given their feedback, that they would be so irresponsible and so callous in their shipping practices (I guess in an effort to save a buck), and by the time I received it, it was too late to say something. I agree. I have experienced the same in buying form sellers that have great feedback and poor packaging practices. It seems that as long as people praise their slothfulness that they believe they are doing a stellar job. I also have a lot of great feedback for my packaging and I had seen myself get upset when buyers would request secure packaging, when I already do, but then thought to put myself in their place, especially after dealing with so many bad sellers who don't package securely. I had to humble myself and reassure them that I will and they are happy.
  10. Great points. After High School, I walked into a Sizzler Steak House and talked with the manager and started as a bus boy/dishwasher. I worked hard and kept my area clean. The supervisor over the kitchen saw how hard of a worker I was and got me to being a cook. I was the opening cook for them. I eventually became the meat cutter and did prep work. At one time, I was working for them four days a week and three days a week at a great Mexican restaurant as a prep cook. With all of this experience I worked for a little while for an expensive restaurant on the waterfront call C.I. Shenanigans. I became a really great cook for some great restaurants buy starting out as a busboy/dishwasher and an eagerness to succeed. I also worked at Albertsons grocery making donuts as at the same time working for Safeway where I was promoted twice in two months. After I got burned out of cooking I applied at Serta West (mattresses) and started on the bottom bagging the mattresses, Got promoted to a few more positions to where I was making twice what I started out and was almost promoted to a supervisor position before I injured myself to not being able to do physical labor. I then applied for a sale position and a desk job selling soccer equipment throughout the US. I started on bottom and was promoted quickly for entry level to Senior Sales exec. Each time started at bottom by getting my foot in the door and took my jobs very seriously and got promoted quickly. You have to start from somewhere.
  11. Yep. Exactly. If you have the time to put in the legwork - there is a lot of gold in them-thar hills! Find the honeypots, drill them till they're dry and move on. I don't know about the location he is in, but in my area, I run a regular weekly circuit of used book stores, antique stores, LCSs (I'm too lazy to get up at the crack of dawn for yard sales) etc digging for gold - like just yesterday I picked up a NM 4th ed. Killing Joke for $1, and the week before that a YTheLastMan1 and Runaways1 for under $2 each and before that I found a Five Ghosts1 for $2, all NM 1st prints. There is gold out there if you do the digging! Cranking $1-$3 books into $5, $10, $20 or more sales is a low-risk, low-cost (but high legwork) way to make a few hundred a month. But if you also happen ENJOY it, then the money is like gravy! These are some really good points and advice. What I have found that works for me is to do both books that are valued at $10+ for quick turn over high profits and having 20+ long boxes to take to small shows that cost me $25-35 a table to make $300-500 every 2-4 months.

  13. Nice and you can tell your wife the comics help pay the bills too. she wants that to magically happen without any inconvenience to her -- i should acquire comics for free and sell them for big bucks. I should also do all my scanning, listing and packing and buying between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. when she is asleep, for example, but still be wide awake in the morning to make coffee/breakfast and get the kids ready and to the bus stop for school. Sorry to hear about all of the problems. I'm very fortunate that my wife and kids love yard saling, going to comic shows, and never bothers me about buying, selling, or reading comic books. She also loves the extra money we make in sales. Lucky you.Ive learned to never mention money and comics in the same convo....she just screams selll,Sell SELL.....sigh...if i tell her I found a cmic for X Dollars/cents and it is worth Xxx $...well'.lets just say well. !eep your eyes peeled gang...ive something coming up.... My wife and I share an office and I have posted on here at various times my graphic novel and toy collection which takes up most of the office. What warmed my heart, last night at a restaurant dinner, was a conversation I had, with my 16 year old daughter, about Clark Kent and his cousin Kara Zor-el. She is currently watching all of the seasons of Smallville. She also loves Ghost Rider and Supernatural. She can literally answer almost every trivia question about Supernatural and the actors. Quality time we spend together.
