  1. Thing is this is just the books that were sent for reholdering.  You have to realize that the whole slabbing resale has been compromised.  Every book that has a high price disparity between say a 9.4 and 9.8 is subject to this scam. Why send in for reholdering which is how this guy was caught. Simply crack open the slab slide in the new lower grade copy reseal and sell that.  Submit the other book raw later. You can literally have a couple seed copies to get the 9.8 label and a large amount of lesser graded comics to repeat the process over and over as you get the newly slabbed books back. Example look at Star Wars 1 a ton of copies graded out there and the price difference is a pretty large.

Yeah, so some kid drew a goatee on him. You go find a Mexican edition (same publication date). One 3.0 on the census.

Very Rare book.  It's the fourth copy I know of after yrs of searching and talking to collectors from Mexico and other Spanish speaking countries

  3. Second Grail acquired.  I spent a few years trying to track a copy of this down as well as the Rawhide Kid 17.  The La Prensa (Mexican) Two Gun Kid 60 version once again is dated prior to the U.S.. Oct. 1962 as compared to Nov. 1962.  Couple minor editorial changes to the face and a glaring omission of the bullet on the U.S. edition. I assume it was removed due to the comic code.

  4. Here is the Wyatt Earp 29 UK edition and the matching Mexican edition.  Both lower grade, but happy to own.  Still need a better grade U.S. copy again. Took a picture of the idica just to show others what you are referring to.

Splendid. Not an easy book to find, that one. It will have an undated L Miller & Co indicia, if you didn't already know. Post a pic when it arrives :)

    Cool.

The 9d UK Price Variant and US cents copies came off the same press, at the same time. The UKPV would have gone on a boat and sailed to the UK, while the US copies were distributed to US outlets. Mikes Comic Newsstand has KCO #97 as having an 'on sale date' of the 27th of October 1960 in the US:

That's quite a bit before the January 1961 La Prensa indicia date, albeit who knows how long before / after that date the comic actually went on sale in Mexico.

Here's another example I found online for KCO #102 which has the Mexican book a month after the US indicia date:

    kco102.thumb.PNG.d14948d13b044ffce406b508d7a9c26c.PNG

Notwithstanding what the indicias say, the production dates are the key to which came first. I've not been able to find a KCO #97 with an arrival date, but they can often contradict the dates on Mikes Comic Newsstand by quite a bit. No idea on the La Prensa dates, but it's all very interesting isn't it.

yeah thats my copy as well.  I typically see the early La prensa the same month in the indica or within a couple months after. This is the first I have seen with a date prior to. I have a UK edition Waytt Earp 29 on the way.

  6. Okay guys, I have found a bunch of Kirby Western La Prensa and will be sharing them on here.  This one is interesting. Kid Colt 97. The U.S. UK and Spanish.  It has the original unused cover.  I have seen La Prensa with the same month in the Indica, But this is the 1st I have found with an earlier date than the U.S..  In the past there has been talk that the earlier issues may have been printed in the U.S. which is unconfirmed. This says Mexico, but who knows. Interesting book to say the least. You can see the copyright on the UK also says 1960. I know U.S.  were released earlier than the cover date. I thought it was 3 months not 4. Need to go through more from this time period.

  7. If you look closely at the building details where the woman was on the US you can make out where the lines stopped at the woman and leg and continued on after the editorial change

Marvel would send out the cover art prior to editorial changes. JIM 83 is the version with more lava men FF1 as more figures, etc..  This cover is likely Kirby's original prior the it being cleaned up

That's a cool looking book Brian, well done. Did you receive it slabbed? Interesting that it has the same date as the US original on the slab label - I wonder if the indicia does say August 1960? And if it does, I wonder if that is accurate to Mexico and not just a straight / literal translation of the US original, if that makes sense?

Here's my tatty old UK Price Variant - no indicia details at all!

I received it slabbed. There are a others with the same dates as well. Speaking to another collector specializing in La Prensa for 10+ yrs. for example TTA 27 was released the same month as well.  Prior to FF 1 there wasn't a non-compete so this happened often and from FF 1 on there was a several month spread.

  9. Got my Foreign Western grail today. I have been searching a couple yrs for a copy offering bounties to various collectors and resellers to no avail after finding out that it existed in Mexico.  I thought I knew of 3 copies including this one, but I found out today this copy exchanged hands an that leaves 2 as the person who sold a copy yrs ago and I thought was copy #3 is the same copy. While I am sure more exist, at this point 2 are known. Both from collectors in Mexico and here in the US.  I present Rawhide Kid 17 La Prensa Mexican edition. On a cool note this has the same release month as in the US.
