  1. I tend to think, for US books, if it goes in a magazine slab it's a magazine, so TMNT and such count. I'm more torn on UK and other foreign books... the default format was magazine size on things like Captain Britain or Warrior or 2000AD, so I'm partial to an argument that they're not magazines. Particularly with books that don't even hit 32 pages. So I'm willing to listen to arguments either way. Even within that category, I'm more willing to include Warrior as a magazine over Captain Britain (first series) or 2000AD, since Warrior had enough US distribution to have US prices. (Same with the 2nd Captain Britain series.) My main problem with this is that it's a very arbitrary distinction, even if I can clearly articulate it.
  2. Why is the board insisting on a dash between "a" and "-script"? I tried to edit it, but it pops back up. And it added another one when @Randall Dowlingquoted me...
  3. In today. Wally Wood stories in all four, even if one is inks and another is a -script. Also Toth and Wrightson, just to cover the absolute a-listers...
  4. I definitely had spinners like those as a kid; but I have no idea if they were those particular designs.
  5. I think even in the last couple years since the original discussion things have changed quite a bit, but that's a good starting point.
  6. I think the thread would fit better in the pulp section, personally.
  7. This thread will give you a lot more information: As far as I know, CGC will not grade them due to the various counterfeits and uncertainty on what actually indicates a genuine copy.
  8. An interesting question. I would point out that Quality Comics was, in fact, the company that published Warrior and it's their logo on the front cover of the book in both versions. The early issues of Warrior also had a back cover ad for Forbidden Planet, so I don't think there was the "we won't advertise our competitors" attitude you might expect in this situation. On the other hand, having all three prices on both versions does suggest that not all UK stores got the "UK Version" as well. Anybody have contact info for Des Skinn to ask?
  9. Katie Cook, not Scottie Young. I actually like the cover for what it is, but agreed that it's not particularly impressive as a first cover appearance even if you do like the style. Image swiped from GCD.
  10. Same. I think I actually liked it enough to grab it in addition to the regular version, not instead. Like I said, would need to find the box in my storage unit.
  11. Doctor Aphra didn't launch until the year after Vader Down. I can't locate a variant of the Vader Down 1-shot with Black K on the cover. The Hastings variant for Darth Vader 13 (part 2 of the story) has Black K, that may be the first cover. I would be happy to be proven wrong about a Vader Down cover with him, though. If it is the DV 13 Hastings that's the first, I got insanely lucky... some got misshipped to my LCS and I got one for cover. Now I just need to figure out what box it's in. (Cover from the GCD, but it's actually my book since I originally uploaded it.)
  12. In today. I was quite happy to discover that the traditional wisdom that Bode's only paperback cover was Space Chantey was wrong:
  13. And, putting action to my words above, here's one of the covers I didn't have but ordered. Quick delivery!
  14. I think the best we can hope for is keep the cat largely confined to members of this forum a little while longer
  15. It might be Black K's first cover? So many variants I'm definitely not sure.
  16. I’ve yet to encounter a problem buying or selling on the boards. But I haven’t done much of either compared to lots of members.
  17. A spectacular achievement! Personally, I would say CoT 18 is New Trend... it says so right on the cover... but Crime Patrol 15 & 16 are not actually New Trend, but either the last pre-trend books or best considered as the transitional books between pre-trend and new trend without actually being fully New Trend.
  18. A couple of recent Hughes covers that I think are too new to make the top 20 all time list (we need to see how well they age after a year or three) but that I think may be candidates in the long run:
  19. He's deliberately channeling some Wally Wood look as well, for obvious reasons.
  20. Here's a few I think qualify as all-time classics after a quick look at the GCD. A couple of which I also just ordered after realizing I didn't have them yet. Can try and get bigger scans for the ones I do already have if people want.
