  1. Legion of Super-Heroes? Assuming it’s somewhere in the slow post- Future State relaunch queue…
  2. Could it just be a case where the market hadn't figured out a book was rare until multiple bidders jump on one that finally turns up? We've seen that happen with comics frequently.
  3. Just recently discovered this existed and got a copy:
  4. Hopefully some of these are useful for comparison, it was hard figuring angles that show the difference. Let me know if you want me to try a shot from a different angle
  5. And in today. Thank you again, I thought I had all the WicDiv covers already:
  6. I think the Authentic Police Cases are quite a bit more common than the romance books. That may just be my perception, though.
  7. I would consider under $100 to be affordable... but when I started casually looking a few years ago, I was thinking around 50 but figured I had time, since they turned up not infrequently. I'm adding it to my regular searches instead of just occasionally looking and will get one before too long.
  8. I really wish I had tracked down a copy of Air Pirates Funnies #1 earlier, they're getting much harder to find at affordable prices. I should just bite the bullet and grab one before they get worse... I did pick up a copy of #2 about three years ago from Dog-Eared Books, which is on Valencia St. in San Francisco. Maybe it's just me, but it just feels RIGHT to me to buy undergrounds in SF, more than anywhere else, even 50 years later. Goodness knows they turn up down there a lot more than anywhere else I've seen, for obvious reasons.
  9. @Surfing Alien's last post has me in the mood for Avons tonight, and I've been scanning some books I've previously only shown as photos. So nothing new, but hopefully better images of some stuff I've shown before:
  10. I tend to think blue labeling trimmed books is the right call... it's just too common on pulps to PLOD them all. I do think it should be hammered pretty hard, though.
  11. I’m glad we have a group here that appreciates the book… even as we all look for an upgrade!
  12. Very mixed grade, but my most impressive complete run is Legion of Super-Heroes. All the way from Adventure #247 to Future State: Legion of Super-Heroes #2. I've been finishing off a fair number of EC runs recently. Two-Fisted Tales, Frontline Combat, Panic, Weird Science-Fantasy, Incredible Science Fiction, the comic format issues of Mad, all the New Direction series, several of the Picture Stories From... titles. Currently trying to find the last two issues of Shock Suspenstories I need. Spidey Super Stories is another complete run I'm fond of, that's getting harder and harder to put together these days. The original Marvel Star Wars run, I had to fill in some issues in the middle after the fact but the 1-60 is the earliest comic I ever seriously collected, I got most of those issues as they came out. Then started collecting again with 104, which didn't last long but it meant I got the #107 new rather than searching for it.
  13. Since you've said GA doesn't have to be slabbed... Only 2 on the census, Frank Frazetta art on the Shining Knight story:
  14. Let us know what you think; I've been on the fence given the utterly savage reviews.
  15. Since we've been discussing Skull, which was heavily influenced by the EC's, I thought I would show off a book of mine that has a EC/Underground connection:
  16. I have no idea what happened on that first Kaluta cover, Conan must be dead because bodies don't bend that way... The second one, we'll just have to agree to disagree. It's one of my favorite Savage Sword covers in the last few years of the run. But, to even it out, I'll share one of my LEAST favorite covers from the last few years of the run. Not only does the face look bizarre at best, I cannot figure out how or why he's holding the shield that way.
  17. Figured I was better off grabbing these now and not regretting missing them later...
  18. Another John G. Fantucchio added to my collection:
  19. And back from my vacation in SF; these are from my usual local bookstore today:
  20. You've shown these before, but they remain jaw-dropping.
  21. "The Adventure Begins" is the tell, on the 1st it's "Free Poster Inside" there.
  22. At what point did the method of making paper change so that the acid became a problem? I know at some point people figured out how to make cheaper paper, introducing the acid issue, I think around 1900? But only very generally around then, it could be a few decades either way.
