Show Us Your Atlas Books - Have A Cigar
OtherEric replied to Silver Surfer's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
That one's going on my want list! -
So, Dynamite had a deal a couple weeks ago, where you could get 20 random comics for $10, including one scarce variant, shipping included. I figured it was more my style of playing the lottery than the actual lottery would be. The package arrived today. This was my scarce variant. I would say it was a well spent $10:

The Unofficial Underground Comix thread...
OtherEric replied to 50 Cent #II (1st)'s topic in Comic Magazines
Interesting timing. I think I've tracked down almost all of the various Trashman comic appearances at this point, other than the couple of one pagers for High Times. And I certainly don't have any of the EVO's, I think there were about 10 pages that didn't make it into the Collected Trashman. -
I'll pound you to a "Pulp" if you don't show off yours!

I respect your position on not jinxing yourself, so I can wait. I was lucky, my very first Lovecraft pulp had my favorite of his stories... The Shadow Out of Time. Getting back to your earlier comment on the affordability of pulps relative to comics, it really is amazing. There is no way I would be able to get anywhere close to the number of notable pulps I have in comics. Last time I counted I had over 50 pulps with Lovecraft... which includes revisions, poetry, reprints, reprints of poetry, to be fair... but also has at least half a dozen first appearances of what I would call major stories. -

This issue actually has "Mitkey rides again", a sequel to the classic Star Mouse story. This is the issue with The Star Mouse: -

Which one is that, if I might ask? -
From Terry-Toons to Looney Tunes (and I just now realized that Terry-Toons actually uses the "Toons" spelling rather than tunes)

I think a lot of the Fiction House pulps and comics swiped from each other; I would love to see somebody more informed tracking those at some point. The swipes went both ways, I suspect. -
My ticket to the club. A well spent quarter back in the day, even with the "it's a quarter book" x in the corner:

The John D. McDonald story in that issue is one of my absolute favorites. A beautiful copy! -
A couple in today. The 138 is the last Atomic Knights issue I needed; the 131 is a nice bonus since they were sold as a lot:

I don't think anybody would disagree that the Thomas/ Smith adaptation was the masterpiece of their work on Conan. I imagine most creators would be intimidated trying to bring something new to the table on this story But you're right, it would be interesting to see somebody else take this one on. Here's one other version, the cover to the original publication of the story in Weird Tales. (The story ran three issues, was only on the cover of the first, and I only have the first two of the three:)

My copy is quite nice, other than one slight flaw... You might get some more attention over in the Magazine forums with this.

Neither. Issue #2 of the Phantom Blot series. Yes, the Phantom Blot had a seven issue series.

So, to be fair, Gyro is a chicken, not a duck. I still feel this one fits in the spirit of this thread, if not the letter. First Super Goof:

What's new in your Silver Age collection this week

Not my personal favorite Steranko cover, but he had so many great ones I can't fault your choice. -

I think St. John gets plenty of props, but more on his ERB covers than his Weird Tales work. Very nice pickup, by the way... been looking for that one for a while to finish my Red Nails run. I think this is the only St. John cover I have on Weird Tales: -

Four Color #819 15 cent variant...Any info on this??
OtherEric replied to gradejunky's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
The handful of 15 cent variants I have were all random finds, they can get a slight premium but most people don't know to single them out. -
Comics, Pulps, and Paperbacks: Why such a discrepancy in values?
OtherEric replied to Reno McCoy's topic in Pulp Magazines
I haven't really targeted any of the Dells, other than my normal quest for John D. MacDonald 1st editions. On most paperbacks I'm all about targets of opportunity, not tracking down specifics.
