  1. And Weird Science-Fantasy #23 arrived today. This actually gives me the complete WS-F run, so I'll do the customary post the whole run thing I do when I complete a set. For this purpose I'm considering Incredible SF a separate run, although I sympathize if you consider it one title. I finished that run off a while ago, though:
  2. No disagreement, although I actually kind of like the subdued colors on mine as well. I'll probably keep it even if I do get an upgrade someday.
  3. In today. I've wanted to get a 10c Dell for a while to have an example in my collection, and the Heinlein was an obvious choice for me; I think it's the only SF title in the series. It's also probably the easiest to find... although that's relative. Also, for fun, the original pulp appearance of the the story for comparison:
  4. Mostly you were praising the classic Wally Wood "Mars Attacks" cover.
  5. Today's book. @Raze covered why this one is so great back when he got his copy:
  6. In today. Clark Ashton Smith cover story and a Lovecraft revision:
  7. Strange Tales to Strange Adventures; first appearance to first appearance.
  8. Do we know who did the Earth Man on Venus cover? It may just be me, but I think "the lost scientist" on the back cover looks a lot like Wally Wood's artwork... which I would normally dismiss as a coincidence if he hadn't done the comic adaptation of the story around this time.
  9. A few digests in today. The Infinity has Harlan Ellison's first story in national magazines. He had one story adapted by EC earlier, and a few locally published pieces, and some fanzine work; but this is generally the book people point to as where he really got started. The first of the Super Science Fictions has a never reprinted Ellison story, the Weird Monster Issue is the last issue of the title. I fear I must respectfully disagree with Bookery on Super Science Fiction being a common digest, I've found it to be surprisingly hard to find some of the issues as I look to fill in the uncollected Ellison SF stories.
  10. And a few more today. More Trashman appearances. Leave it to Lone Star to call that Subvert #2 a VG... it looks unread, but the upper right corner got bumped at some point.
  11. Two in today. The Weird Science has a detached and nearly completely split spine. But it presents beautifully and is very, very readable. I think this issue is getting tricker, the cover may be the best horror cover EC ever put on a science fiction issue. The Mad has much better interiors and is a decent reading copy for cheap. Now all I need is a copy of #3 with a cover for the complete Mad 1-31 run.
  12. #34. 15 to go. The #105 is a Canadian edition, picked up just because it struck me as neat.
  13. And a handful from later in the run. I think the 222 and 226 are the only two issues from 217-244 to have new stories; the 229 somebody posted their Mystery in Space #17 in another thread and I wanted to read the story. This was just a lot easier to track down than the original. I find the by-lines on #229 interesting, calling attention to Walter Gibson and Virgil Finlay. I have the Mystery in Space 19 with the first appearance of the Finlay story, but it's still fun to see him getting credit on a cover.
  14. A few in today. The #148, somebody posted it earlier in the thread and I wanted to read the story!
  15. Not an exceptionally in demand key book, but I was still surprised to find out "First Super Goof" could be had for under $10...
  16. Since I pulled it out of storage a few weeks ago, here's my ticket to the club. Excuse me, Affiliation. A very well spent 60c back in the early 90's.
  17. That one has been on my want list for a while, it's a great cover and a great Conan story. I THINK they writing says... "All the sick, lame + lazy -" Naval sick call (bugle) But I can't be sure. I was Air Force, myself.
  18. The one-and-only book on the list that I have, and honestly the only one I'm particularly interested in:
  19. Not very likely, but not impossible. I got a cover for my coverless All-American #15 on the boards here a few years ago.
  20. In today. Like I've said before, I consider Arkham House sufficiently pulp-adjacent to be worth posting here. Almost done with the Solar Pons books, maybe I should start looking into the other books from the Mycroft & Moran imprint...
