  1. Just got a Shock Suspenstories #6 from Ed, an absolutely a-list transaction in every way!
  2. Nice! My battered copy of this book is one of the handful of books that's a candidate for my oldest original book. It's either this, the Star Wars #21 that was the first issue of my subscription, or a Star Wars 4-18 from Whitman three packs.
  3. I remember loving the ideas, not sure on the actual dialogue. I should give it a look again soon. For the record, it has my vote for favorite. With the Nightcrawler mini by Cockrum a close second.
  4. I would say because it's Frazetta is a big part of it. But also, at this point, it's become a truly iconic image. People don't notice the problems you bring up because they've seen the cover for 50 years now; and at a certain point you start missing those details because the image has been shown and swiped for so long you see it as perfectly correct on its own terms. And have for a long time now.
  5. Yeah, no. I might pay $50 or even $100 for something like that, but $200 is nuts. My Creepy #1 isn't much better, but the cover is at least attached. My Eerie #2 is quite a bit better, and you literally gave that to me for nothing... which I still greatly appreciate!
  6. That's about what I was guessing; I really don't want to go much above $250-$300, but I think I am willing to drop that much. It will be a month or so before I can even start looking, though.
  7. Just hypothetically, if I were to try to join this club what would I be looking at for a book in the 2.0-3.0 range? I'm not really interested in a high grade copy, but I think a lower grade issue would go nice next to my Creepy #1 and Eerie #2, and I'm wondering how realistic an option that might be.
  8. 75 1/2 Ace "D" double Sci-Fi books. (Sorry, the shelter in place is making me even more willing to repost stuff and be a pedantic twit than usual.)
  9. A glance at copies sold at heritage suggests that there's an unusual amount of space underneath the text at the bottom as well, possibly even some white paper at the bottom of the cover which may or may not be the interior pages. So my very inexpert guess would be bad miscut rather than trimming. But I'm sure others more familiar with the book could assess that better.
  10. Glad you enjoyed it. That's a nice copy of the 1st edition, the earliest I've got is the 2nd.
  11. Not 100% sure if these count as two distinct blocks, one with the date and one without, or if you would count them as the same. I am certain that otherwise it's a design that hasn't been posted yet:
  12. Low grade cheap book today... but actually a bit of a milestone for me. It's the last issue of Doc Savage with John D. MacDonald stories I needed. This is actually one of two issues where JDM has three stories, so some good isolation reading for me!
  13. Here's a thread on a specific example from last year. The only time I've ever done tracking like that:
  14. And my EC book for the day. I wasn't sure I would be able to get anything for a couple more weeks, but a fairly low bid brought this one home. I'm now at the halfway mark for Shock Suspenstories! This one actually presents a bit worse than I think it is; it's a very solid copy other than the obvious flaws.
  15. Gratz on finishing the run! I still think Panic is a horribly underrated title, punished for several bland covers and a failure to actually be MAD.
  16. Pre-code horror in 2003? You knew a lot more than at least 95% of us knew back then!
  17. Is Prairie Dog Comics still the only comic shop in Wichita? It was my regular store in the 90's and remains the best comic shop I've ever personally been to. O'Leary's in Tacoma was a better overall bookstore; but for purely comics Prairie Dog had a very slight edge. To bring the thread back around, I got at least some of the Deadman Strange Adventures I posted back on page one at Prairie Dog.
  18. Nice! The one bound Dell volume I have doesn't have a stamp like that, but I'm pretty sure it's an actual file copy as well:
  19. Very nice! My missing issue is at the opposite end of the run, I still need #23. Some amazing stuff despite the run generally being viewed as a step down from the individual WS/ WF titles.
