  1. OK, I can pull some random dells I've already got scanned to appreciate here!
  2. Why I waited until they put it at auction, starting at half their buy it now price. I will give them this: They gave me no grief on the return, and they didn't relist the book. I fault their pricing and grading skills, not how they treat me as a customer the few times I've dealt with them. And sometimes they're just the only game in town.
  3. I still need to track down a copy of this one at a price I like. I won an auction a year or so ago from DTA, but there was internal damage so I had to return it. And it seems like any buy it now copies just get listed as sky high for the condition.
  4. Nice one! I got lucky and found an unread copy of this for $12 several years ago. There was just one small catch... (I still think it was genuinely a good deal, but I would like to find another copy one of these years...)
  5. Pretty well. I actually have a great fondness for the irregular series that ran in the title. They only rarely got the cover, and appeared every few issues rather than regularly, but Atomic Knights, and Star Hawkins (which I don't have nearly enough of), and Animal Man (among others) are all favorites. Then Deadman is, of course, spectacular, if a bit disjointed.
  6. I don't want to derail your thread too much, but I love that book as well. My uncle had a copy, and for years and years when my family went over to visit (which we did all the time, they lived nearby) I would wind up reading it. I remember being particularly blown away by the "Superman, You're Dead... Dead... Dead" near the end. But I loved the whole thing, and only years later figured out it was my first exposure to the golden and silver ages. My uncle passed away over a decade ago; and my aunt died a few years later. But a couple years before she died, she gave me the book (and a copy of Wishing Horse of Oz that was the first old Oz book I ever saw) for Christmas because she knew how much I had loved them. They remain some of the most prized books in my very, very large collection, and I think of my aunt and uncle every time I pull them out. I think I'm going to go dig it out again, it will give me something to read as I stay isolated this weekend. Sorry for the hijack, but I wanted to show I understand just how much impact that book had on you. You're not alone!
  7. "He stood alone at Gjallerbru... ...and that answer is enough." Everybody here either knows exactly what that means... or I envy you, because someday you'll get to see that scene for the first time. It's definitely my all time favorite scene in a superhero comic in over forty years of reading them; it may be my favorite scene in any work of art ever. It really is just that stunning.
  8. OK, so this book did show up here just 12 days ago. The difference being, thanks to @manetteska, it's now in my collection. This gives me the full run; not necessarily the most coveted comic magazine but it's a neat, scarce series with a lot of great creators. I'm delighted to have the complete series.
  9. Fresh in the mail today. 2nd Atomic Knights:
  10. I understand full well. Looking forward to you sharing your next pulp.
  11. That would be a 20% increase; pretty solid relative to the cost of the book. But yeah, 2 cents isn't much on its own. It was more back then, though.
  12. And one that I would normally view as too late and too digest for this thread, but I love Vaughn Bode's work so I'll share it anyway:
  13. So, went to the bookstore this morning, making sure I got there right as they opened and I was the only customer. I figure that's a decent balance between social distancing and supporting local businesses. I fully expect a shelter in place order in the next few days, so wanted to help out while I could. A couple very different books for this thread, here's the first. Not my first pulp with an Ellery Queen story, but still fun to get:
  14. Finally, we were just discussing the Murder Mystery Monthly a few weeks ago, so I couldn't resist this one. And I think the stack of books will keep me busy for a while as we all stay at home:
  15. Yes, it's trashed, but I couldn't resist giving the Mapback a good home at $3. The War Humor is a 1st print.

A nice handful of items today, I'll start with the Saint:
  17. I know I have more of the later issues, but not sure what box they're in... and they're trending into Bronze territory, anyway. I find it interesting that Murphy Anderson only did the two Atomic Knights covers, as far as I know; and one was on the reprint.
