My experience was very similiar to Conjob here. I had gotten most my Vertigo comics bought and was thinking about encapsulation. Checked out the site and the rest is history. Yeah, 4 months history, at an average of 31 posts a day.

I found out about this Forum when, after unwittingly bidding on a dodgy seller's married books, I was alerted via email to a thread on this Forum about him. After lurking for a couple of months and reading many entertaining threads (this was around the time of the Hammer implosion) I finally decided to join an internet Forum, something I'd never considered doing before. And I've been here ever since....

..and I wouldn't have it any other way. Here's a cover by... John Severin? Thoughts? Agreed on your comment...they're relatively cheap. This cover is atypical for Atlas war...not one of Severin's best, though. Those word balloons are too intrusive. It looks very much like a precursor to Sgt. Fury - that's what the code did to Atlas war books...made 'em lighter and more jokey...

Brllliant and moody stuff - Atlas war books are hugely underrated and overlooked due to E.C. and DC's output from that era...

$250 doesn't sound too bad... I was surprised that this book, with the cgc resto check and all, (I mean, this is not ewert-style territory, right?) did not climb a little higher. Killer ditko cover on that sucker. I've yet to check the cgc census and gpa, but I shudder to think at what a VF or better copy would go for. Annoyingly the only data on GPA about SSS 19 is the transaction on the 3.5 copy that you just bought.

I got outbid on a VGF copy recently, the high bid being $250. So $180 for a decent VG seems reasonable...

That's a very scarce book in grade, and scarcer than # 2. A grail for many pre-code collectors...congrats!
