  1. Greetings All,

This might be a bit left field and apologise if this is in the wrong place to post this.

Does anyone here facilitate signings with William Tucci?

I have one of the 6 foot Shi posters that I would like, if possible, to have William sign and remark before I frame it.

If anyone can help, please send me a message. Please note I am based in the UK so will require international shipping.

    Cheers,

    Brian

Since this post my wife and I have seperated. Where I'm crashing now I don't have the bookshelf or the same space. I'm making due though and thanks to @Flanders82I was inspired to rearrange my closet a bit.

Comicbooks are still rotated out every few days, perhaps more often as my collection is more accessible now. I enjoy the simplicity of it all. Here's a sampling -

With the addition in the last few weeks of a new piece of art (the Gil Kane Green Goblin), two Megos, as well as the sideshow Spidey vs Venom statue … I did a rearrange not only on the walls but on my shelves.  So here’s my room, revised :

Behind the statues (including the Cap & Red Skull Bowen set… among my favorite of anything they ever produced) is a Saviuk/Sinnott Spidey Sunday strip…signed by both artists and Stan Lee. It’s the only thing in my collection signed by Stan!

All the Megos are vintage (there are a few repro items : stickers (Robin, Cap), Batman’s gloves, and all the boxes).

A set of four modern splashes behind the Spidey vs Venom. McGuinness Spidey/Deadpool, Bagley Spidey & Ultimate Avengers, Allred Daredevil, and Olliffe Untold Spidey.

Behind Wolverine vs Hulk are the sketches : Gil Kane’s Green Goblin, Romita Sr.’s Spidey/Peter, a Mike Kunkel Herobear, George Tuska’s compilation of some of the early Marvel characters he worked on.

Ok so this small wall has the other modern splash (Tom Grummett X-Men) and sketch (Alan Kupperberg commission) that didn’t fit on the previous wall. LOL.  So I consider this wall the “Modern art extension” 😂

I've only just started trying to add a few X-Men books to my collection, 12 and 14 are 2 I'd love to get. Those copies are brilliant.

I'm also in the UK and realise they don't come around too often. However for grading purposes have you considered going through one of the approved dealers that CGC have listed? Takes away the hassle of arranging all your own insurance etc.

Also a Brit, I luckily completed my early X-men years ago, but never got them graded. Now I am regretting not getting them graded when I bought them as not only is the postage high, but most of the books now fall into the 'Walkthrough' fee scale so the costs are high. At the moment, I would rather waste the money on comics than grading, but at some stage I will need to consider getting books graded, but then the question is which ones!?!?!?!? :shy:

This Pence sale may do a few things....

    1) Remove the "Stigma" from Pence copies.

    2) Encourage more copies to come to auction because of the strong sale.

    3) Encourage more raw copies to come out of collections and get slabbed.

    I would say 3.

My only issue being this side of the old pond is the postage (shipping) costs.

If the comics were printed with a UK price then they would have come across as paid for goods in the storage holds. This would be true of all the commercial deals between the US producers and the UK purchasers.

Any comics coming across as "ballast" (if indeed this actually happened) would have been outside of these contracts.

You are more than likely correct and if so, I live to learn. The ship ballast was a theory that had been banded about ever since I started reading comics a long time ago, but after the silver age. I have never researched the subject in detail, although looking at the size of cargo ships, it would have taken a lot of comics to have been deemed ballast, so l will have to concede it is more than likely incorrect :foryou:

It is more likely the treatment of the books once they reached the UK being the reason for many being lower grades. I remember trading comics in schools, bundles at a time, reading comics in dentist and doctors waiting rooms, which were just thrown about like magazines are today.

I have been collecting for 50 years and still havent seen even mid-grade copies of certain books.

As kids we took comics to school and swapped them, read them in bed, the bath etc,

The fact that they are a smaller print run with sketchy distribution and mostly not looked after, means its a tough ask to find decent copies.

I agree that a lot of collectors are finally coming around to realizing what they are and the scarcity of them, so now is the time to go for it, good luck in the hunt :wishluck:

    Kev,

To add, a lot of the paper material exported to the UK from the USA was deemed ship ballast, so was not treated at all well. So getting silver age pence books in grades higher than VF is difficult. As you said the market is seeing a shift in the value of pence copies, and luckily for us (in the UK) a lot of UK collectors still turn their noses up at them - so more for us true connoisseurs.

A Batman figural prototype run I built together with my youngest - they all vary from different stages of prototyping, from clay, waxes, hardcopy's, molds, and first shots - all dating from 1966 to around the early 2000's. There are quite a few additions not shown here but this can be a tough display to photograph due to glare so I went with the one that looked best from my awful attempts at photographing it.

This is the first version of the store bin with header I got from @Rip for the series one diecast line, I had the full run but decided to focus instead on the Canadian bilingual, and am looking for the X-Wing and regular TIE Fighter carded to finish the run. The art on the wall are Star Wars Sunday pages which can be seen here

    Awesome room. :cloud9:

So many questions, but I will leave it with one, the hanging comics on the Whitman Spinner still in their original bags?
