  1. It's similar in my mind to buying a book with a coupon clipped. The book may look amazing in a mylar and the missing coupon may have no impact on the story, the visual presentation, the colors, etc but once I know that coupon is missing it's gotta go. No one is wrong for wanting a comic I might not want. It's just my preference.
  2. Collecting is a generally irrational endeavor so, while I can appreciate attempts to add objective analysis to this thread, my deeply considered and highly scientific conclusion is that scraping paper away from a book to remove color touch stinks and I don't like it.
  3. I received the TMNT mystery box from @Turtle today and it's amazing. It took me twenty minutes just to get everything out of the giant box to go through it. Figures, art, prints, comics, a slab, a vinyl record sketched by Ryan Brown(!), a pizza box(!!) and a genuine copy of TMNT 1. Very generous and really sets the raffle bar high. Thanks, Adam!
  4. Got a bombproof package in the mail today and, after carefully opening it, found therein a really nice Batgirl hardcover. Very generous @DR.X and thanks for the contest!
  5. I had a similar experience with some Golden Age slabs.
  6. That's exactly what it is. It's a horrific practice and one of CGC's worst policy decisions is to recognize as universal labeling.
  7. I used to own two 9.8s at the same time. Submitted both raw, unpressed. They were kept together in a single bag and board for decades and eventually sold by the original owner to a local shop near me. I got them and immediately submitted them as-is to CGC. I really wish I kept one.
  8. I submitted two books. Received one about a week and a half ago, the other is scheduled for grading.
  9. Are my kids the only ones begging me every weekend to take them to the nearest postcard show?
  10. My comment on the Charlton stuff was mostly in jest. The observation is really the part about buying books with frantic immediacy practically sight unseen. I know FOMO buying can be fun and thrilling, especially when you "win" by throwing down the take before everyone else. It seems potentially dangerous to me but as long as buyers have a budget and plan then it's probably a non issue.
  11. That's where I'm at. It has nothing to do with the seller, just the frenzied behavior of buyers making purchases before they've even had time to process a purchasing decision. It's not how I approach buying so I find it interesting and curious.
  12. Each year, around this time, I become re-fascinated by the psychology of FOMO fervor. When Bronze Charlton run fillers have four immediate takes we've stepped through the looking-glass.
