  1. Hi Kimik, Your Batman #400 with $1.50 is a U.S newsstand edition the $2.10 is a Canadian Price Variant. Great selection of Canadian Variant Copper Keys you have there.
  2. Actually, there were DC .60 US/.75 Can. editions, as evidenced by the .75 DC Comics Presents 53 in my pic (top right corner...that I bought off the stand myself): That is true, but those DC issues said ".75 All new Canadian" The other DC 75 cent covers I'm referring to are U.S newsstand with only the single price of 75 cents on it so it can be tricky. Many people confuse them because Marvel had a single 75 cent which is their Canadian price variant
  3. Post away! It's educational too. Many collectors didn't realize the difference for many years. There is a "following" for them. DC Canadian Price Variants can get tricky. Some people mistake the DC 75 cent with UPC code as Canadian when it's actually the US newsstand version. DC single price Canadian price variants are 95 cent. I believe DC charged Canadians more then Marvel. When Marvel was 75 cent Canadian, DC was 95 cent Canadian. The dates blend but generally it started in October or November 1982 and ran until 1989 or slightly later. It gets very confusing with all the different publishers. ie. Marvel, DC, Archie Publications etc.
  4. The 2 factors are 1) Scarcity: Print runs of Canadian Price Variants were approximately 1/10th the print run of the U.S print run. (DC Canadians are even more scarce) 2) Condition: Due to Canadian Price Variants being sold at corner stores, department stores, grocery stores etc. they sustained abuse from non-collectors and avid readers. It is very difficult to find Canadian variants above Very Fine + So the total number of high grade copies is very scarce and therefore should have a premium over guide or the regular print runs. In high grade, premiums are consistently 25% over guide and can easily attain 100-200% over guide for keys such as Amazing Spider-Man #238 or #252
  5. WOW! That should have a beam of light shining down upon it from Mount Olympus. To be serious though, that is a terrific copy, you are a lucky individual.
  6. When I have a moment. I'll have to take a group shot of my 5 copies. Yes, I'm preparing for the end of the world I have my canned goods, radiation suit (well, really it's just some tin foil I took from comic convention attendee's heads ) and my copies of Strange Tales #89 In the meantime, can anyone update the thread with some pictures of their Strange Tales #89?
  7. To get back on topic a little. Has anyone heard the reason the publisher decided to issue the book every 6 weeks instead of monthly? Will there be variant covers to issue #2? I hope it's just a regular, single issue from #2 onwards.
  8. I'm curious to learn the various print runs for this issue along with the 3 variant covers. The retailer variants are interesting too. I reread the story again this weekend as I was shocked how much I enjoyed a modern book. I have to admit. I did pick up multiple copies in hopes that this book went under the radar and wasn't printed too heavily, especially since it was only direct market. Heck, I think we all wish to find the next piece of "The Walking Dead" pie. Now that I've punched my "speculation" ticket I'm sure this will crash faster then the Wright brother's first flight attempt.
  9. Doesn't matter what the grade is though, it's a beautiful copy!
  10. Great looking book! No matter how many copies I see, I never get tired of it. What grade were you expecting or hoping for?
  11. Claudio has excellent customer service. Great packaging and very tight grading. Thank you for a wonderful transaction from start to finish!
  12. I read it last night and added it to my monthly subscription list. It's definitely the best new book I've read in a few years. I also like that they are going to have an old school letters page.
  13. Of all the modern comics that I've read in the past 2 years. This is easily my favourite new book.
  14. One of the variant covers has a great Betty cover. Damsel in distress/horror style. Don't forget Cheryl Blossom too! I quickly skimmed the 1st few pages and really liked it. I think I'm going to be very excited for this series. I think this series has some potential. A seasoned writing/art team thrown in for good measure. I hope they introduce some new characters.
  15. Has anyone picked this up and read it yet? It's one of the few new books I find myself excited to read. There are 4 covers (1 regular and 3 variants). Feel free to chime in your thoughts or reviews.
  16. That just happened to me today as well. Value FT tier and Magazine Standard tier. Maybe it's a glitch if we both experienced it. I'm sure others have as well.
  17. Well no offense Bill but judging by the large 10c cover price and the Nov date it was on the stands at exactly the same time as FF1........ 11/61............ when the 'prototype' is contemporaneous or subsequent to the other character, things get murky.... WHAT??? next thing you will tell me is that THIS isnt a THING prototype either It's a Thing "variant". Makes it more rare, ya' know
  18. I'm sorry, I just traded it for some magic beans
  19. Congratulations on the Tales to Astonish #3 Bronty. You won't be disappointed with your decision on finally "caving".
  20. I agree, this book was a sleeper and will be the next big book. With the 1st NightWing and origin of Deathstroke, it's a double key. Black cover isn't going to make it easy to find in high grade. I'm surprised more people aren't focused on the Teen Titan series. In the early 80's it literally boosted DC and competed strongly with the X-Men. It also has a lot of 1st appearances of some cool Villains and Wolfman & Perez. According to GPA, a 9.6 Canadian Edition sold this weekend for $200.00. Not too bad for a book that isn't driven by movie speculation.
  21. That's a beauty, Bronty! I agree with your earlier statement. I was always drawn to the blend of the blue and purple blending. It's a very striking cover and by far the best pre-hero cover.
  22. Ordered a couple of raw books from heymikesays and I was very pleased, great communication, good packaging and excellent grading on raw books. Shipped quickly as well.
  23. Yes. Awesome. The collection I am picking up today will have high grade CDN newsstand variants of all of the issues of Batman, Tec, Action, Adventure, Superman, MOS, Flash, GL, Saga of Swamp Thing (including 2 more #20s to add to the pile) and a number of other titles. DC's trick a lot of people. As long as they are 95 cent cover price with UPC code they are Canadian. Single price 75 cent covers with UPC code are US stand editions. DC's also had a lower print run then Marvel CDN editions and should carry a higher premium in high grade. Good luck! Hope it pans out well.
  24. They should. CDN Editions are very low print runs of the overall print run, about 10% and also hard to find in 9.0 or higher Newsstand Editions in high grade are very tough due to convenience store and grocery store abuse.
  25. I can't get enough of seeing this book. The colors are so striking on almost any copy.
