  1. wow, worse than Iron Man 3? That was horrible. The Iron Man 3 trailers looked so bad that I actually didn't see it so Spider-Man 2 is the worst super hero movie I've seen in the last 3 years.
  2. I saw it this weekend and it was horrible. By far the worst super-hero movie I've seen in the last 3 years. Spider-Man/Peter Parker had more crying scenes then action scenes. It felt more like a chic flick about Spider-Man and his feelings then a comic book action movie. Just terrible.
  3. That sales thread is what made me write my initial post about over grading. I'm seasoned enough to recognize the realistic grade of a book posted with scans and make a judgement for myself. I'm also aware that scans will magnify flaws to make a book look worse then it is in person. I do just walk away and make note of these sellers but I'm shocked when I see this stuff selling on the boards. I wonder how many times it comes back to bite the seller in private messages
  4. I didn't want to make a post in this thread about overgrading until I watched for patterns in sales threads over the last 6 months so my observations weren't unfounded. I'm not going to use specific examples so I don't break some forum code but it's even evident over this weekend's threads. This is a community, so I'm wondering if it's too taboo to make a thread about one's "opinion" of overgrading? Not to insult the seller but to protect the community with a certain standard. I have to be honest, a lot of the stuff I see for sale is so far off that I'm comparing this place to eBay. What's the best approach to this problem? Do people send private messages to these sellers? I'd love to hear other's thoughts.
  5. What's the big deal with that? The only thing I can think of is "early Dreadstar" or "First Full Dreadstar" but wouldn't Epic 1-2 be better options since EI 1/2 are officially noted online as the first app of Dreadstar? Epic #1 is the 1st appearance of his sword, #2 is 1st Vance and Epic #3 is when Vance becomes Dreadstar when he and the sword combine. Yeah, I know that, but since the Sword was actually Dreadstar, Epic 1 is noted as his first appearance in many publications. If Epic 3 had Dreadstar on the cover, it would likely change in the CGC world, but none of them seem to. Either way, it's a great series and definitely picking up steam. I just sold a raw 9.2 copy of Epic #3 for $100 USD plus shipping privately and a raw 9.4 copy just sold for over $160 USD

  7. This book has the most potential based on speculation. Most people haven't figured it out yet. If done right, Dreadstar could be the next great fantasy genre movie.
  8. I think it's declining and here's why, A few months ago I picked up the entire run as leverage in a trade and ever since then it's been snore-fest 2014! ( That's Murphy's Law ) I tried reading the series and couldn't get past issue # 7 before losing interest. Don't get me wrong, I like the zombie genre, I enjoy Afterlife with Archie a lot.
  9. Your last sentence is exactly where the focus should be Logically, the individual would do a walk through service so that it's rushed and the service obligation is met for customer service sake. The person who bought it has nothing to lose, it's low risk to resubmit a restored book that was previously universal, and factor the turnaround time service obligation and you have a "quick glance" based on the volume business model. Flippers, make note of the serial number so you don't buy it, try to press it and resubmit it in a slower turnaround service tier.
  10. Tape, color touch, missing pages, spine wear, none of that is 'opinion'. The grade it receives might be opinion but claiming a physical defect that is not there is WRONG. If you're not sure if it's trimmed and you have scrutinized it, even if you 'think' it's trimmed, it should get no trim verdict. Trim is the one thing that you have to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. It's sarcasm! My point is that "guarantee" is spelled incorrectly for a reason.
  11. You're paying for an opinion. That's it. Why do you think CGC spells "guarantee" incorrectly.
  12. Good catch, and I have seen/heard of that before, but for some reason I totally forgot that as a possible culprit. I have seen comics stored in old plastic bags and the top comic looked just like that, with significant ink loss. It took me a while to figure it out too. It's been years since I've seen a book with that problem. I mentioned earlier that it was caused by poor storage in the old days. Funny, as many of us thought we were protecting the books with that technique.
  13. This is actually a symptom caused by poor storage in the good old days. It's commonly found on books that were stored in cling wrap before comic bags were around. The rich/deep inks would transfer to the cling wrap as they were stacked upon each other. Once the book was removed from the cling wrap it would unevenly lift/transfer the inks.
  14. I just saw this this announcement. Good for Afterlife with Archie! I hope it's around for a long time. The 2013 Winners are: Best Ongoing Title: Afterlife with Archie (Archie Comics) Best New Series (Fan Voting Decided the Winner): Afterlife with Archie (Archie Comics) Best Colorist: Francesco Francavilla (Afterlife with Archie)
  15. I'm always pushing the book whenever I see a chance, but I'd suggest also trying the 'Life With Archie' series. Such a brilliant 'mature' Archie series, which is where this Afterlife With Archie series takes its nod from. Seriously, that series shocked me with how good it is. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll check it out and see if I like it.
  16. Read #3 last night. Absolutely loved it. The spin on the characters to bring the present world to the classic Archie franchise is done very well and the the story flows perfectly keeping you interested and on the edge wanting more. I think it's a great touch that they put in a letters page too, very nostalgic. My only request would be to see more pages each issue. Make some of the issues like the old dollar books of the 70's. By far the most intelligent story I've seen come to modern comics in a very long time.
  17. Whitman Edition of DC Comics Presents #22 on eBay today. Could be interesting.
  18. I have the U.S newsstand edition and the $1.35 is certainly the Canadian. I had a brain freeze there. Those DC Canadian Editions throw me for a loop sometimes. I think my favourite has to be Batman #400 and the ol' $2.10. This is another cool price variant as well from the bitter end. The Action 600 is a good one too! I do have a copy of that. Such odd price points
  19. The Titans is what helped elevate DC in the 80's. Such an under appreciated series. I think this is one of the best series of the copper age.
  20. I have the U.S newsstand edition and the $1.35 is certainly the Canadian. I had a brain freeze there. Those DC Canadian Editions throw me for a loop sometimes. I think my favourite has to be Batman #400 and the ol' $2.10.
  21. Nice pick ups, Kimik. That Captain Atom #1 is interesting. I have never seen the $1.35 single price on this cover. I have a copy that has a single price of $1.00 and I thought it was the Canadian edition. Notice the cover date is March 1987 by DC Comics, it is earlier then the June 1987 cover date of the Canadian Edition Flash #1 with the single price of $1.00. I have to say, I'm stumped ??
  22. I think you're doing the right thing. It's great to own them but with this genre of books it comes down to eye appeal for me. I would be satisfied with a Very Good if it presents extremely nice. ( ie. Front looks 9.0 but large piece missing from back cover makes it a 4.0). Heck, I would be happy with a 2.0 if it looks nice. Don't even second guess yourself. Once they're gone and out of sight you won't even think about them again plus you'll have money to leverage on other books and you'll be a happy camper.
  23. Don't forget the DC Super Hero Whitman Variants. Hardest Whitman variant of all to find: DC Comics Presents #22 It is more rare then the SGT Rock and Warlord Whitman variants. There are approximately 3 to 5 known copies to exist. Until March 2012 or so, it was only rumored to exist until 1 copy popped up. Since then, there have been 2 more low grade copies on eBay over the past year and half. I believe one of these belonged to Bellerules1, another belonged to Doug Sulipa and the 1st to emerge on the scene was on the STL forums. All copies are very low grade (3.0 to 4.5) from the pics. and there a no copies that have been CGC'd to date. This copy is only the 4th copy I am aware of. Here's a picture.
  24. I'm mostly excited to see where this goes since it's so out of left field. Ginger and Nancy also intrigue me. I honestly can't get enough of the series. And my LCS has a ton of #2, regular and variant cover. Anyone need one? Yes, I forgot about that. I really enjoy the writing style and how it makes the conversation between characters flow so well. Excellent spin on the Archie Universe. I think it's the best new series and so glad it's giving new (after)life to Archie (a lame play on words).
  25. I just read #2 last night. This series is certainly my favorite modern book. I think the story is strong and the twist to classic characters is very well done. I was happy to see Cheryl Blossom and Jason Blossom introduced in this issue but the relationship between them sure seems odd, time will tell where that goes. I really like the way the conversation between the characters flows so naturally. I love that they have a letters page too.
