  1. They are 1/10th the print run . Hi! Is this a guess, or do you know for sure? It's an approximation. Using what was mentioned earlier that the population of Canada is about 1/10th that of the USA. It's often the rule of thumb used for Canadian Price Variants. But I would also agree with the post earlier and believe the print run to be less and extremely tough to find in high grade.
  2. That is the Canadian Price Variant ( 95¢ ) and it all depends on condition. They are 1/10th the print run and more scarce, extremely scarce if 9.2 or higher. A key can bring 150% to 300% premium if high grade and dependent on the key. If mid to low grade then it would likely not bring a premium.
  3. That's what I was afraid of. I wonder how many subscribers have dropped this title or lost interest at this point?
  4. Does anyone know the release date of Afterlife with Archie #8? Also, Sabrina #2? Thanks!
  5. So is Gambit's 1st Appearance in Uncanny X-Men #266 or X-Men #266 I heard about an Annual too!
  6. Right, but thats because at the time Magnus, Lady Death and Gen13 were going for 200-300$ No, you're mistaken. You're off by about 5-8 years. If any issue of Magnus sold for more than $10 after the Fall of 1993 and until about 2005, I'd be very surprised. Gen 13 had crashed, and crashed hard. I don't recall any issue of Gen 13, even at the height of its 1994-1995 popularity, ever selling for "$200-$300", though. #1 and #1/2 were the biggees, and they sold for about $50 each. Lady Death #1 was a $100 book in 1994, for sure, but by 1999...$5. LATE 90's/early 2000's. Think 1998-2002 or thereabouts. Also, the dealers that were trading nice bronze and silver age stock to acquire pallets of Valiant material.
  7. You are correct, he did acknowledge he was not in compliance. As a 'fix' he broadly graded all books Good+ or something ridiculous. I just don't like the way things are headed with sellers here. First, the new thing was to not post pics, only if requested sort of thing. Now here, he is not even giving a grade, trying to explain that you can ascertain a general grade by the price. ? I mean you can list on the Boards for free. Isn't that incentive enough to put a little effort in to a sales thread, like grading the books. I'm sorry, if you are one of the buyers I think you are wrong in condoning this. I previously had a lot of respect for this seller as a Boardie. Now, I don't know, I just don't understand what's going on here anymore. Does anybody monitor the Sales threads anymore ? Doesn't anyone else care ? I agree with you 100%, selling here is not a right, it's a privilege and it's often taken for granted. Sales threads like the one you're referring to are simply lazy like the losers that sell at flea markets thinking they have great books that no one else has. I am usually pretty strict about rules too, at least in principle, but I'd be careful about words like "loser" and "flea market", neither of which are applicable here. Granted if the seller was an unknown quantity, and made no effort to respect the rules, I would be fine running them out of town on a rail. In this case the OP got off to a slap dash start, and then began making a good faith effort to fix it, not fast enough obviously. Certainly it is the OP's responsibility for the consequences of not being properly prepared or organized. Speaking for myself, I'm more patient with good faith efforts at compliance. I hear where you're coming from too but I'm more strict about following rules. Especially, as I said earlier, selling here is a privilege. At least do himself a favor and follow them so he doesn't look like a newbie.

  9. I know that seller, and it looks like all his auctions are on the high side. This was a good sale for him. I had not realize these books had increased in value so much. However, is that a Whitman copy? Just looked at my copies of this book and both say "still 35 cents" in the price box. Your copies are newsstand copies, the diamond box is an example of early direct editions. Yeah, certainly possible. I bought mine from either my LCS or off the newsstand. Just don't recall direct edition sales taking place that far back. Direct Editions started around 1978 or so. Micronauts #1 is another good example of having a goo mix of direct editions and newsstand editions.

  11. You have a lot to learn about message board drama I just want to read something interesting about comics. Let people form their own opinion about someone "snake-oiling" sales, pressing books and selling them undisclosed or deciding who they like the most between a two dudes tied amongst a bitter nerd-fight.
  12. Pressed, signed and slabbed (and we all know the value of the signature certification) That's my point entirely, it's a $10 book that he's selling for 25x its FMV, and yet he comes off with his "holier than thou" garbage. Nothing but a hater. You've also called me a BS'er. Holier than thou, maybe. BS with regard to you, definitely not. Feel free to show me the error in the factual allegations I've made. I've already refuted the allegation that it is a $10 book. It's a $75 book in 9.8. Not your ebay-raw-hope 9.8, but an actual slabbed 9.8. Further, the last sale on that particular book was $350. Not mine but GPA 90 day is $250+ and thus how I derived my price. Now, I've responded to your implied and express claims that I am not transparent or am a huckster of some kind. Perhaps you can respond to the numerous examples people have provided or your overgrading or giving misleading or factually inaccurate descriptions. Also, who's P-Flap is more soar then the other's P-Flap. More drama, Super! I wonder who will bend first to the criticism and attacks? Do they have a yawning emoticon?
  13. I'm always mystified at how lazy an LCS is when it comes to staying on top of books that start catching fire. I know it's difficult but that's why I'll always set higher prices on hotter books or keys to help leverage against overnight spikes in price.
  14. Hey Guys, agree to disagree and take your arguments to private messaging. By airing your dislike for each other you aren't winning a daytime Emmy for best soap opera. It's clogging up a perfectly good speculator thread.
  15. Watch out, Hustruck knows (of) muay thai and jiu jitsu. Apparently, he also has 8 friends that voted "no" for the HOS at this point. Either that, or he has 8 accounts on these forums.
  16. Hustruck needs to be cut down at the knees. Judging by his actions and repeat offenses. He's a sociopath that requires time to focus on his mental state and not on selling comic books. It's examples like this guy that make me sound like a parrot and say these sales forums have more clowns per capita then anywhere else on the internet. The probation list or Hall of Shame needs more action and less talk with a loser like this guy.
  17. Why is it not noted on the CGC label as a Canadian Price V*****? They should have noted that, right? CGC miss the Canadian Price Variants more often than not. I have to be diligent about staying on top of submissions and even when they are told they will still not adjust the label notation correctly. It's frustrating for a couple of reasons. 1) It misrepresents the real census data 2) CGC always mislabels them as "Canadian Edition" when these circa 80's books should be truly labeled as "Canadian Price Variant".
  18. The Return of the Jedi Canadian Price Variants can bring a decent premium in high grade ( ie. 9.2 to 9.8 ) The problem with the poly-bagged copies is that they are generally not better than true VF/NM. The bags hide a lot of damage and they were never stored correctly. The are neat as they are in original presentation but mostly as a curiosity. In the bag there is no premium as it's too tough to accurately grade them but single high grade issues can bring 25% premium in 9.2 to 200% to 400% premium in 9.8. Due to the upcoming Star Wars movies, I've been selling any Star Wars book at 100% to 1000% premium whether it's Canadian Price Variant, Direct Edition or Newsstand copies.
  19. It's called marketing, not luck. I agree completely. You can't just list books in the basic auction format and expect them to yield high sales prices. It may work on occasion, but generally not. Detail the book in the description, put emphasis on the positives, put up large scans both in ebay and in the ad, set your starting bid at what you yourself would buy the book for and set your BIN 30% higher. Yes, it's not going to sell right away, but be patient. Unless you're paying your mortgage or feeding your family on the returns, then you're in no rush - it's called a "collection". The discussion is about eBay sellers, not eBay patiently-fishing-for-a-suckers. Maybe it's the fact that prices change so quickly on these books that a smart seller placing the higher price helps hedge for unexpected increases. Thus, someone with significant inventory doesn't have to waste time constantly checking on price fluctuations. Therefore, a patient seller will always do better then the OCD collector willing to sell at a lose so they can simply have some money to buy the next shiny object that interests them for the month. If you don't like the price, make an offer or move on to another seller. I love the buyers who waste time explaining why they should get a "collector discount".
  20. When the internet was created and everyone realized that every person on earth had the Byrne/Claremont run in high grade, and usually multiple copies of each issue. CGC 9.6 copies can't even realize NM- guide prices for most of those books.
  21. Finally! I'm a huge fan of this series and think it's the best on-going modern book available.
  22. I hit three different 7-11s tonight looking for nice newsstand copies. I looked at 15 copies, but only bought 1. Most were damaged slightly or mangled. I wonder how hard it will be to find VF/NM or better copies going forward? Yes, the newsstand copies are tough to find in high grade. After combing through around 100 copies I was only able to pull 4 that I believe are 9.8 candidates.
  23. The seller should be refunding you. A good seller wouldn't even have to think twice about it. You do have a good case and did the right thing by opening a case.
  24. You should post the auction link so we can see the scans. Would be interesting to see if it's visible or not. If you don't like the book, then send it back and quit dwelling on something so trivial.
  25. Because none of us work for CGC. He has already stated he called them, why does this thread exist. CGC is slow, if you don't know it, you live under a rock. I submit a box to them every few weeks, pay for fast track on lots of things. Yet I just follow the TAT thread and get my answers, but this thread is just another example of peoples inability to have any patience. The books have to ship back, the books have to get checked in. If saving $10.00 is not that important, mail them and it will show in the system faster. I disagree, I think this thread is to help shed light on the fact that many people are paying for a service and not receiving what they pay for on a consistent basis. Why is that acceptable? One good reason is that the field lacks competition. Even the new kids on the block can't get their act together, right from the beginning, and doesn't give myself and many other people confidence to use them so we're back to square one. One solution would be, if you aren't meeting the turnaround times offered by a fast track service then be held accountable and give a credit for the extra amount paid for the fast track service. Second solution, hire more people. Customer service at every level is lacking.
