  1. Don't worry, muh dude, if you set up a good number of pb sales between now and then, you may just be able to afford this masterpiece: https://fineart.ha.com/itm/paintings/american-artist-20th-century-study-for-proposed-magazine-cover-watercolor-and-gouache-on-board-11-1-2-x-8-1-2-inches/a/8161-71246.s Wait, maybe you don't want to spend there but here: https://fineart.ha.com/itm/pin-up-and-glamour-art/joyce-ballantyne-american-1918-2006-beauty-in-pink-oil-on-canvas-30-x-24-inches-762-x-610-cm-stamped-and/a/8161-71250.s Cough, but for real, there's some "low end" items in there, too, I suspect you may be interested in (I know I am, but the price has to be so low for me to play, sigh) I think I predicted elsewhere that the McCauley will blow the estimate out of the water, but that's pure conjecture. I love this Georgi, but it has some unfortunate markings right on the forehead. This image is altered, as I took a moment to remove those and some other physical marrings: I think this Fried is a stunner, too. You know, it'd never hurt to ask the Mrs. about the possibility of second mortgage for Reefer Girl What a stunner that one is. The painting looks to be in great condition, too. The little bit of inpaint wouldn't deter me in the slightest. If I had all that cash lying around, that is
  2. So that's the final magazine sized issue? Pretty sweet. Ten bucks? 300 bucks means somebody's been exposed to a little too much of that spice, but I can see it as being in the realm of possibility for somebody that really wants a nice copy without having to look for it. Seems like Analog is the sort of thing you buy a long run of for dirt cheap in a big box, but I'm sure I'm out of touch per usual
  3. I can't sell you on that one??? How about SINGLE HIGHEST GRADED
  4. Cross post on the subject of digests. Not an acquisition but a subject of interest. From the Baker thread (why I let those jackals in on a mag I don't have yet I do no know). Much of interest to crime and digest fans in this one, though: New Baker sighting this week in the pulp scans group. The scanner was just after one story, but I was able to confirm that likely the entire issue is Matt Baker illustrated (which I knew was likely the case) Not my scans here, Terror Detective Magazine, February 1956, a crime digest from Everett Arnold. I hesitate to even show this thing in such sharky waters (and absolutely do keep some Baker secrets to myself ). What a fantastic cover this is (artist unknown): Harlan Ellison, Day Keene, Edward Hoch are among the authors in the issue, totally killer, I'd love to get my hands on it. and I found the auction where it came from and another illo, very likely all the splashes are Baker
  5. It's cheap, too! Deals everywhere New Baker sighting this week in the pulp scans group. 6. 15 dollars! Because, writing in a big wax marker across skin tones (common flea market practice) makes collectibles so much prettier. Not enough blank space on the inner cover for writing, I guess
  7. Ah cheers, a different copy. 58 bucks with a Cole estate COA, not too shabby.
  8. A fun little article she wrote on her relationship with Harlan Ellison
  9. There's some debate amongst the comic scanners whether this one's actually Trina or not, just based on the photo, but I am in fact finding reference to the fact she used the last names of Perlson then Castillo as well as Petit, so that would seem to back it up. Also appearances in Caper, Rogue, and Dude as well as possibly Man's Thrills. Did find a few photos of Trina Castillo on eBay as well, still totally unsure if they are one in the same. Looks like her fashion designs, though? Also a list of possible love conquests for Miss Trina would include Jim Morrison (trophy) and Harlan Ellison (not a trophy lmao). Btw, no disrespect at all intended by sharing photos and gossip of a young Trina. Hopefully when I die people dig out the pictures of me all young and studly I did find one of Trina and Forry c.1960, Forry be creepin'
  10. I love how Cole's lovers aren't holding back. This is some serious smoochin: Anybody holding this cover proof? The image from Heritage is old and all pixelated Besides having some waviness at the time.
  11. He'd just gotten a pedicure, cut the macho man some slack.
  12. Killer share, Bob It's hard to believe you actually caught some bird shot in the adventure, but that's a great story. I've been selling more than buying in the way of collectibles, but I looked long and hard at copy of Tales from the Tube just this week, absolutely love Rick Griffin. It might be a little hard to see from his early toons (though they're still great), but Griffin is one of the true giants to come out of the world of underground comix, and some of his poster work is absolutely mind-blowing (thumbing my copy of Heart and Torch right now). You see a lot of influence in the Surfer stuff from Mad types, and I enjoyed the surfer-centric retrospective I read this morning at The Surfer's Journal: https://www.surfersjournal.com/editorial/the-archivist-rick-griffin-beautiful-pandemonium/ When I took a trip out to Cali last Spring Break with the fam going from my bro's pad in Humboldt (cannabis farmer) to San Francisco to LA where my sis (model/artist lol) lives, I got a big kick out of watching the mostly yuppie surfers (more power to em) out on Manhattan Beach on calm day. All of Cali was great (incredible food, excellent vibes - even in LA). I'd never considered retiring there (cost of living is *slightly* prohibitive), but it could happen. I'm of a later generation but have a similar connection to BMX magazines from my youth. They were absolutely the lifeblood of what was at the time a very niche subculture. This is an old blog post but one of my faves. I might have done just a little escaping the authorities myself. : https://darwinscans.blogspot.com/2010/02/kickin-it-old-school-bmx-and-freestyle.html
  13. You're most welcome, Bob. But you do know how it works amongst collectors
  14. Fantastic, you don't happen to know which others do you?
  15. As the kids would say, "cringe." I was looking through some Trina stuff last night and did think about the fashion/design aspect for a minute. Her bio at the end of Swift Comics (a bantam paperback where the page I posted above comes from that gave Deich, Spiegelman, Trina, and Allan Shenker each a quarter of the comic) mentions her having a boutique: The clothing design angle reminded me of California Girls in the 80s on Eclipse (which there was a thread about the other day because of, um, the Eclipse). What a great label that was. I think of it as an 80s take on Patsy Walker or the golden age teen comics with the dolls and designs that you could cut out. Teen comics aren't really my thing, but I did think it was really cool how Trina included designs from readers and also encouraged young girls to draw and do their own comics. I know this isn't very "underground," but it is very indy/DIY - not to mention very 80s Anyways, just very cool in getting young girls involved in art and design and making their own comics. From issue 1 In issue 2 You can tell from all the different names in California Girls that she touched and engaged a lot of people with this approach.
  16. Woo! Some of my faves in here. First four picks were easy, the fifth not so much.
