  1. This means that girl has killed the kid and gave fire to the tree?
  2. You’ may be right about the "waiting for something better", but on my part it’s just waiting for something that actually interest me. I would have been interested in the X-Men #120 from Tyler's offer, for example, but I already have it. And the Silver Surfer #2 was very cool too (and an important first appearance of an alien race), but I have decided not to collect Silver Surfer in full. I simply mean that if one has no interest, that is the first motive which could bring the thread to an halt. I would have no problems in adequate follow-up offers as long as I see something which I am effectively interested in.
  3. I am willing to deal with "investors" only – normal comics readers, please stay away.
  4. I have an original art page from the Demon's 1990s series (the one by Alan Grant, I think) – it’s pretty unexciting but if I dig it out I’d be happy to give it away, here on PIF. I am a big fan of the original Demon but I did not like what they did since that series with the character…
  5. I think this mostly originated from the quarrels, not from the thread itself. When I posted my first offer I did not feel pressure at all, but some reactions may have left a sense of uneasiness, even if in some cases they might have been legitimate observations.
  6. Obviously there are exceptions. If I had not a New Mutants #98, and one offered a copy, I might have grabbed it to complete my collection as I would have not been willing to spend money on a NM#98 for myself. Same for other Copper keys, which luckily I have in 99% of cases as I bought them back then. Modern Marvel books: out of curiosity I could pick some here and there to see what they choose to do during the last years, books which I would not buy, but this would be bound to happen in PIF. As far as high grade CGC books collecting, I am never interested, and I would not pay much for a modern anyway, even if it is sought after. But there might be modern collectors willing to part with SA or BA books for the right moderns, so it depends on many factors…
  7. These were among the first books I purchased at the newsstands: the italian Eternals magazine was also awesome because it featured Nova, Omega, 2001 and Machine Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Deathlok. Where? BTW, could you tell Liam I did not receive any activation email for the FCC forum (I subscribed a pair of days ago, talking with Tim). The new FCC layout is a lot tidier, and works definitely better. (thumbs u No, sorry…
  8. There could be various examples, but I think the main reason is not seeing something enough of interest for you. And one must have a bit of variety for the offers, while keeping them interesting. Having little to give (of interest, I mean) right now, I was just waiting for a right offer. As far as the RAKs, I would have stuff to gift, but generally speaking I can’t cover free postage costs from here…
  9. Right, if you edited the original post, the initial post links to that. (thumbs u There is also to say someone has both to be interested in the offers, and have something to offer, and in the recent offers I wasn’t either particularly interested in the books (or had them) and did not have much which might fit to offer in return.
  10. This thread just needs a copy of Woodgod to get started…
  11. Tyler’s offer is a good example that a valid offer can still go unclaimed, and yes, it underlines the differences between the threads, but I do think they both can work. Maybe the offer was just too varied: many single books were very cool, but one who was interested in – say – Silver Surfer #2, might not have been interested in the modern books, and already have the Alpha Flight and so on… The Giving Thread requires a more focused re-tooling of the offers, but I still think even a very good offer can risk a strike if it is much varied, simply because the potential takers may already have a few of the books and not interested in others. Not sure there are general tips to prevent this from happening…
  12. Did you sell these cool australian editions, then? I have been scanning some of my magazine-sized Marvel editions. Here’s the italian Eternals #1 (includes Nova #1 and a part of Omega #1 as well, they were 64 pages each).
  13. This thread is for Golden Age only, there is another thread in Silver for inquiring about SA/BA and other books.
  14. Dude...Been done...And they became Mud-Thing…For real. And it was awful… Probably awful, but the nice part is that indirectly that was the storyline that would have had the Sandman to reform later on. I loved what they did with the Sandman afterwards and I have the Marvel Two-In-One where he is recovering from his body scattered around and meets the Thing in a bar. That is where he starts to consider reforming and giving up his past evil deeds.
  15. I’m really sorry to hear about your mother… Your friend was amazingly talented for that age. I have always drawn, up to some point, but at 12-13 I would have never been able to draw a decent realistic figure, or maybe I wasn’t just enough motivated…
  16. Here’s my #64 for similar example of overspray ink, so sleep well and no worries! (thumbs u http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=338818&Number=7645461#Post7645461
  17. I think it’s just distributor's spray – some of my copies of issues in that range have it too. It should not affect the grade. Looks like a VF+/VFNM, if the cover lies flat. Gorgeous copy, hopefully you found it at a fair price – I am very glad you finally got one! (thumbs u
  18. Love the Mary Jane and the last one…
  19. I love that Kav's Wonder Woman in "sense of wonder" science fiction setting…
  20. Speculation is the original Inhumans are off limits (they are part of the FF franchise) and the NuHumans characters will end up being the movie characters. So I would look to the characters that are being released in the new Inhuman title. As a comic fan, I'm disappointed the Marvel movieverse is based on newer rebooted properties than the classic properties. Something tells me if we get a Marvel Dracula movie, it will be the new Dracula with long white hair and not the superior classic 70s Dracula. I would have loved to have seen a GOTG based on the classic characters, but apparently I'm the only one. Hollywood is not beholden to the comic fans. The studios will make movies based on what they think the general public wants, not the wishes of a few fanboys. On my part, they should do movies even less related to the original stories, the less related, the better. It’s not like adapting short novels, and turning them into something new like Hictchock would have often done with his screenwriters, here it’s a mish-mash mixing everything and not taking into account 40 years of Marvel age where characters grew and developed, up to when they kept making sense. It would be a lot better if the movies were just inspired by them, or rather faithful to the original context. But given the mess Marvel is publishing now in comics as well, it’s an hollow question.
  21. OK, but "First appearances" are a somewhat devious concept to begin with: why one should own only "first appearances"? It‘s quite an insufficiently_thoughtful_person way to look at collecting books that are – as their name implies – meant to be read.
  22. (thumbs u Precisely. The Kirby Fourth World Jimmy Olsen is a great series, and that cover is very meaningful for a number of reasons which have little to nothing to do with Darkseid showing in the penultimate panel. If one wants Darkseid for the whim of having a "first appearance" this proves to be a (deserved) challenge – quite an impossible task, as Darkseid is underlying the whole Fourth World saga.
  23. The dialogue in most of the modern books is midway between fanciful and numbing. Kamandi clearly represent what you could make by working thoughfully on a not-so-well accomplished idea development (i.e. the Planet of the Apes) turning it into an accomplished adventure series (with a lot of food for thought too). In Kamandi, Kirby's relative weakness in dialogue is largely compensated by the straight forward and complelling narration.
