  1. Avengers # 8 - 5.5 - $2300 $1950

I posted this a while ago on the PGM book forum and the consensus was 8.0

However, there are some defects not apparent from the scans which hold the book back at present ,and I am trying to grade strictly.

There are some non-color breaking bends at the top of the book in the middle, by the A in the word "Kang." There's also a NCB on Kang's left hand. The back cover has a small bend at bottom right, which you can see in the scan.

There's a patch by the spine above Iron Man's head that has lost its gloss for some reason.

Most notably, there are two small patches of some kind of residue on the middle front cover. These can only be seen if the book is held at an angle to the light. I have inquired on these forums whether this residue could be removed with a cleaning and the consensus seemed to be no. The third image shows these two small patches of residue, circled in red. No idea what it is from.

Due to this residue, I have a hard time giving this a technical grade above 5.5 despite how nice the book presents.

As a result, if you want to have a great looking copy at a reasonable price, this might be your book.

  2. Circumstances have led me to downgrade my Avengers #8. First, the technical bits, then the book.

    7. If there's any kind of issue with the books, let me know within one week of receiving it and we can figure out some kind of return. But I don't anticipate any issues!

  3. Just watched this finally now that it's on Disney.

Overall, I thought it was a flawed movie with a lot of promise. My main sense was that the film was hampered by being beholden to superhero movie tropes. I felt like there was a much better movie that the filmmaker was trying to get to but didn't because of the constraints of the genre. What I don't understand is why those constraints are there - there's no real reason why, just because it's in the MCU, it has to all be resolved with a dumb cgi fist fight. I don't know if Marvel is to blame or the director, but it almost felt like they didn't trust the fans to come along on the journey so they dumbed aspects of it down to try and play to what they think the audience expects.

Specifically, the big issue for me was that the deviants storyline went nowhere and ultimately meant nothing. They set stuff up with the deviant, but once we got the surprise twist about the real bad guy, the deviant arc became pointless so they just sort of randomly ended it in a pointless side fight. The fact that the deviants and eternals are essentially the same was thematically rich, especially as the thrust of the film is the eternals finding and embracing their own humanity. A much better way to go for me would have been to explore this by, say, having the unimind require the deviant to be part of it in order to succeed. Having Ikarus reject has humanity at the same time the deviants tried to find theirs should have been a rich vein to explore. Instead they squandered it for a boring cgi fight that added nothing.

I also hated the post credits scene. Pip the troll sucks in any context, but that scene was so tonally jarring compared to the movie that preceded it that it kind of crapped on the entire film.

First watch thoughts I give it a B-. It could have been great but it shot itself in the foot for no reason.

I've owned multiple #1's (regular) over the years and I don't recall that defect on any of the copies I had.

    Hmm, interesting. Thanks!

Here's the printer wrinkle on my copy, which does not have anything written on the first page.

  5. I don't know anything about this comic, so forgive me with a dumb question.

I do have a copy, no signatures or numbers or anything. However, it does seem to have the production defect crease that has been shown and talked about from the early print runs. I'm just wondering if all copies of the book had this, and if not, whether it means anything that it has this defect? Just trying to learn more.

    Thanks!
