  1. Hepcat - that is a beauty... Will try to put my OO up shortly. Having some trouble getting used to the new board.
  2. A recognized authority on Comics has stated that this is a book printed without red inks. (Read the CGC Label). Just who are you to dispute this? Oh the Arrogance...
  3. I'm having minor troubles with the new format. Personally, congrats on the grade - i could never have seen this book as a 3.5 myself. That chipping is extensive and there are many, many long color breaking creases.
  4. Dang, I left off the greatest baseball player of all - Babe Ruth. Would make it just on his massive offensive stats, but in a Pinch he could be a true starting pitcher...
  5. C - Johnny Bench Hon Mention to Yogi 1b Lou Gehrig hon mention to Jimmy Foxx 2b Rogers Hornsby 2 MVP's, 2 TRIPLE CROWNS, only player with 40 HR's and a .400 season together, 2d best career av behind Cobb. ss Honus Wagner For a big 'ol dutchman he could really fly - Hon mention to Arod (one of my best friends "Mr Baseball" concedes He's the best ever) 3b Mike Schmidt prodigious power and a dozen plus golden gloves LF Ted Williams He missed virtually 5 full seasons fighting for his country - pro rating his stats over those PRIME years, would make this a no-brainer CF Willy Mays hon Mention to Dimaggio, Cobb, Speaker, Mantle, Griffey... RHP Walter Johnson LHP Lefty Grove hon mention to Sandy R Mariano Who else?
  6. That's quite a nice haul there. Felt like it was 10 years ago as little has changed in that time at the Big Apple Con. Got there at 10:00 and the line went halfway down the block towards 6th ave After about 20 inutes online and only moving up about a third of the way, They came down the line and asked all Cash/Credit card purchasers to move up to the front?!?! Did so and was inside the Con in another 5 minutes. Mike was all over the place and as animated as ever. They were following him around with a Camera for quite a bit. The CGC sumbission line was LONG and Slow, so I hope you guys with books got there early. I was really hoping that Matt would be there as I had some resto questions for him and wanted to show him a major repair He did back in 1999 on a All Star 3 that I now have. Stopped by Byron's (TV Comics) table which he seemed to be sharing with Silver comics. I worked a couple of shows with him over the years and it was great to chat again. Went up to the 18th floor to see Barbara Eden. I CANNOT believe she is 85 years old - still a BEAUTY!! I think that's also where Jim Lee was behind a curtain with a huge line queued up. Didn't see Bob Storms and was surprised. Also didn't hook up with anyone at the show, so I ate my Lunch while watching Michigan take down Minnesota further uptown before catching the Bus back to PA. It was freakin COLD and Windy out so the con was quite pleasant. Glad I went...
  7. Ruth posted a .671 winning percentage over 10 years and 140 regular season games with a .228 ERA. His ERA in the Post season was .087. When considered alongside his world class offensive stats, His case is STRONG... Crisco; thanks for remembering me - going to head east tomorrow and check out Carbo's Con...
  8. winner + 1911 AL MVP. What hurts Cobb in any way is having not won a World Series ring. Ruth has a .342 life time average + 714 homeruns + 2873 hits + 12 time all time AL home run leader + 7 world series rings. Excellent points to be sure, but it doesn't tell the Babe Ruth pitching saga. He had a .671 winning percentage with a .228 ERA in 160+ appearances. he had a .87 ERA
  9. Hands down, Babe Ruth Was/Is the greatest Baseball Player of all time. BA -HR -RBI are all world class but 90+ wins as a Pitcher puts him in another category all together. Simply unapproachable...IMHO.
  10. Isn't that a different book?? 1st one (now $600k) had better detail in the towers and had both the fire and police tribute. Surely that would be worth the $135,000 difference??
  11. So, is anyone going to this?? Back in the day before Javits started I'd go every year and meet up with the likes of Red Hook, Darwin, Gene, Shad, Kenny, FoolKiller, Paris fred, Captain red pants, etc for lunch and then after the show closed we'd go uptown a bit to Steve B's favorite Chinese place for Dinner. As I recall both Starlin and Adams (among others) joined us for dinner, on occasion. Miss those times...
  12. As a long time Comic Collector, I find those photos quite humbling...
  13. Never go anywhere looking for books, but there was Comic "show' at the local volunteer fire dept a couple of weeks ago out here in eastern PA. So I'm looking through some boxes of 1960's stuff (mostly Dell) and stumble across this. Have seen this book on the boards numerous times and always got a kick out of it. At 50% off it was $8.00. Didn't care much about the price or value as I just wanted to make a purchase and bug out as it was a pretty sad affair. Glad i found it...
  14. Never saw that cover before - a sweet book to be sure. I guess for Me it was either my restored raw All Star 3 or Flash 1. Getting to actually read them was real treat!!
  15. Thanks for your thoughts... I kinda thought that might be the case but never gave it sufficient thought. I have one of the big keys of the GA with such a situation and have often wondered what it was originally graded at as the seller apparently removed it from it's original slab before selling it. Will likely discuss the situation with CGC in NYC in three weeks...
  16. This is a bit off the specific topic but pretty close; what if the missing page's artwork were recreated by a restorer/conservator? Would that be better or worse than marrying either a spare cover or the spare wrap? Thanks for anyone's thoughts...
  17. Man, that is some sweet haul you got there...
  18. My thought exactly... It looks like she got caught with another man and her beau locked himself in the cabin closet. and what's with that fancy diaper??
  19. Also very surprised that there hasn't been much response to this thread. Would have thought that there would be numerous copies to drool over. In any event here's my restored copy that I've had for about 15 years. It's got a bit of recreated artwork on the centerfold and very likely other resto, but I love it nonetheless... would be interested if anyone has any idea of the value...
