  1. Ditto!! There were SO MANY trailers it got confusing, but WW was electric...I hope the over arching war theme doesn't hold this flick back. AND, I thoroughly enjoyed SS.
  2. IMHO, if one has any interest in these upcoming Universal updates, you might want to catch up on Penny Dreadful. They have branched out to include many of Universals Monsters and a few more for good measure...and I find it all quite well done.
  3. I'm a big fan of selective examples, such as yours... Try this; it may match the Average World Wide Gross (even inflation adjusted) of the Nolan Batman Trilogy!!! A Trilogy which was simply ADORED by both Critics and Fans. How big of a bust is that?
  4. I've NEVER seen that Frazetta cover on issue #6. Back in 1961-62 ACE publishing began randomly reprinting ERB's stories (Tarzan, John Carter of Mars, The Moon Maid/Moon Men/Red Hawk, Carson of Venus, Pellucidar, etc. Their expanded version of The Moon Men/Red Hawk had these same three Characters on the cover but NOT drawn by Frazetta. The Cover was by Ed Emsh and the Title page by Roy Krenkel Jr. Krenkel and Frazetta would do most of the Artwork for the entire 37 novel run and were my introduction to fantasy artwork. This particular book was my very first purchase of the run that I acquired at Sid's Luncheonette from '61 to '65 or so and hooked me for life. I have all 37 books, and I have to get a copy of this book and any others with Frazetta's work.... I'll scan Krenkel's original cover tomorrow .
  5. You know ever since I was introduced to Warren horror mags I can't seem to get enough, and can't understand why these books aren't more sought after. The art is amazing, the stories equally amazing, and by some of the greatest in the business. Well said. I've been chipping away for about a year now. Not quite as awesome as yours. Been picking up the archives. GREAT stuff. You know I never paid too much attention to them, until Diggler requested for me to do some artwork for him. I started to appreciate Frazettas art. Here is the piece I drew for Diggler. Of course I immediately bought a Creepy #32. This is the dogs bollocks. What he said...
  6. Ditto - those are all sweet books - i love all things Frazetta and that creepy 7 cover has always been a fave...
  7. This thread has prompted me to go out and search for 3 Frazetta Mag covers I didn't have. Found them all in decent to very nice shape and will post them within the week.
  8. Had never even heard of this title before. Nice grouping of all 11 issues - congrats. And please let us know who the dealer is...
  9. Barton; Looking at your absolutely amazing DD books reminds me of when I got to take a gander through Doug Schmell's storage facility in Englewood NJ a dozen years ago. the HITS just keep on coming...
  10. A raw #9 for 175.00? Wow I couldn't find this on ebay to take a good look at it. Metro has a nice copy (they're calling it a 9.0 and it might be) for about $100...
  11. Very nice collection you have there... I went through a Frazetta faze about 5 years ago and bought a HG copy of every cover he did for Warren. Just some really Great Artwork!! (And the stories are quite good, as well). I paw through them every so often. I'm particularly fond of those early Creepy's. I think #9 was the toughest to track down a nice copy...
  12. I'm a huge fan of 'Superman: The Animated Series' and think this writer couldn't be more wrong. What really drives me nuts is judging THIS Superman when it's only getting started. MOS was about revealing himself and SAVING THE ENTIRE PLANET. 'Batman v Superman' begins 18 MONTHS after that. So it's like reading a Prelude and Chapter 1, then concluding a novel sucks because it's nothing like 'See Spot Run' you grew up with. People know very little about this Superman so far. His character is developing, the beginning stages of who he'll become, and he's been at it a whopping two whole years on earth. People forget that the last 'Classic' Superman movie, Superman Returns, did $236MiL (domestic adjusted) on a $318 (adjusted) budget, a LOSS, just taking into account domestic numbers that we know, of MINUS $82MIL So much for 'what people want'. Man of Steel did $297MIL (domestic adjusted) on a $230MIL (adjusted) budget, a WIN, of $67MIL. On top of that, his next appearance in BVS has done $319MIL (domestic) on a budget of $250MIL, a WIN, thus far, of another $69MIL. Once again, so much for 'what people want'. Another way to look at this is that BvS, if it can eke out another $40 Mill Worldwide, will do as well (Worldwide adjusted to 2016 the only true measuring stick) as the average of the Nolan Batman Trilogy which has been both Critically and Fan-based praised to the High Heavens. How in Gods name can that be considered a flop by Comic Geeks?!?!?!
  13. Congrats! Nice book. I was was the underbidder You cost me a small fortune. I think it was money well spent...
  14. BUT, who else has the incredibly rare "the wheels are in motion" T shirt??
  15. I remember intermissions for Gone with the Wind, Giant, Dr Zhivago, The Sand Pebbles, The Ten Commandments, and probably How the West Was Won and Ben Hur...I didn't see the latter two in the Theater, but the sheer length, scope and era suggest they would be reasonable candidates. There were a ton of others, I'm sure...
  16. OK , I just have to say this; You guys are all F'ing nuts - it's a Movie fer chrissakes...
  17. that's a great place for a pause...
  18. If you like comics, go see it. It really is an above average movie from many aspects. However, there are some things from an overall story standpoint that could have been done better. Regardless, it is well worth the price of admission and you will get your money's worth on the screen. I paid to see it in the first week it was out, and while one certain aspect did not sit well with me and wish the writing team would have gone in another direction, I did not feel cheated or mad that I had paid to see in the theater with much dinero spent on concessions. Last night; $4.20 for a SMALL Diet Coke... Go to 2 large cokes and popcorn and you get to pay $20. BTW, how did you like the movie? look above, I gave it a Metropolis VF+++ rating...
  19. That is a lovely copy of an early Flash. It's amazing to me how the hobby/boards have changed (ultimately accepted the inevitable). We used to argue over the horrors of pressing and there were two distinct camps. Those who were totally repulsed and those who felt that it was better for them to be the recipient of a higher grade/price on their own books. I must have sold 200-300 of my original books untouched back in 2004-2006. And in many instances someone else bought, upgraded and profited from their "restoration". Fortunately I did quite well anyway as there weren't too many original collections unearthed at that juncture. Now it seems all but a given that most slabbed books will have already been "restored". You'll note the quotation marks as I'm not fully up to speed as to what is considered restored these days. Times change - live and learn...

  21. I was going to write some lengthy comments today but have to say that yours sum up my feelings quite well. I cannot understand why the critics savaged this movie. I can understand how roughly 30% of patrons felt it didn't represent their feelings and attitudes regarding the Major Characters. Saw it in REAL 3D at a Cinemark and there were about 25 folks in there for a late ending Tuesday nighter, so not too shabby. I think that since the Movie is already so dark, 3D may NOT be the way too go. I'm thinking 8-9 of 10 easy... Oh, and I didn't find the portrayal of Lex all that disturbing either (different to be sure but not as bad as so many seem to feel). All in all, 2.5+ hours of a VF+++ Comic Book movie
  22. Ditto - and all of this from a man who, admittedly, has not seen the Movie in question. I do love the way he writes, however. What I cannot understand about the criticism for this flick is that in my opinion and others, it is based on (don't care how Snyder plays it down) the number one or two most popular Graphic Novel of all time. Yet, folks are blasting the "Darkness" aspect of it despite the pervasive "Darkness" in DKR (Miller's book). Go figure...
  23. WOW - that's what the last 1.5-1.8 CGC'd copies went for... I especially liked the guy who tried to convince you to sell to him outside ebay as he could scrape together $500 from his family!!

    Uh-oh...

Deleted. This is truly one of the best threads ever. It twists and turns and the insults come from all angles. It also touches on stuff which would make sense down the road when one of the biggest comic book scandals broke. It also has contributions from a classic group of boardies who only pop back up occasionally. I learned a lot about comics from these guys...
  25. Only for friendly discussion purposes. i'm not in the business of selling or trading my comic mags. And that's precisely why I didn't write about your 106 being worth a BOATLOAD... I have these two issues as well though: I believe they're classified as bigger "keys" or something like that. All I know is that I need too many of the issues below #116, and I'd still like to upgrade my #106 and #109! OK, now you're just showing off...
