  1. How many copies of each issue did they usually have?

I can't even imagine buying Timelys "off the rack". I'd be more than happy to elbow the big guys for those Marty!

It was Newark in the 40's...you didn't "elbow" Wise Guys.

Marty how were the racks organised? By publisher?

There was no organization...they were just lined up in a row with a cord across

the middle to hold them up on the wall...as I remember there were four or five

    rows about six feet wide.

As for other newsrooms...I don't think they were ever really grouped by publisher.

Only for the rack at W.T. GRANTS...these were all DELL'S.

  2. I wish there was a gerber photo journal of pulps! There are lots of books that have some covers but I like the completeness of the journals. They really helped me understand Golden Age.

I buy pulps here and there and often wished they would be graded by cgc. They would appear more collectable ug they were in cases like that. I know there are good stories in them, but yhe pulps I have are even more fragile than my GA comics so I usually don't look through them more than once.

CGC's notes on the labels also help me collect and I'd love that for pulps.

"Classic cover". Publication dates, "first nazi cover" stuff like that would be cool.

Paperbacks are neat too, I'd pay a premium for a set of high graded Conan frazettas.

Slabbing would make these way more collectible because we'd know it was first printing and all that stuff. Pulps and paperbacks are kinda wild west imo. I'm sure if collectors made it worth while they could get pretty popular.

  3. Here are two of my recent Timely pick ups.

It's a shame the Marvel Mystery #43's color registry is so off. I guess I'll have to upgrade someday. It's still one of my favorite Schomburg bridge covers though.

Human Torch #11's cover has really grown on me in the past couple years. It used to not even be in my want list!

The black smoke looks really great inbetween the torch and the colors of the background. A very strong composition!

Schomburg was pun intended "ON FIRE!" in 1943. His best work imo.

  4. I got my Fiction House in the mail this week. It's cool, but I can't say I'm as big a fan as I thought I might be. What do you guys think of the book?

It's amazing that in all these years, no one wrote something in the blank white emblem on his chest.
