  1. I didn't say this earlier, but I'd say without a doubt that issue 5 was the best of the book. I'm one of the skeptics of the book, but I do want to praise it when it is deserved. I saw others saying it and wanted to chime in. It shows a lot of promise for the series.
  2. Ryan Ottley is in Baltimore this year... I need to look in to this and see what he does at shows.
  3. Oh yea I forget names! Cool stuff. Ryan Ottley art can be gotten for a decent price. Most of the cool stuff has been grabbed already, but he sells EVERYTHING. I'm going to have to pick some up when I get some money.
  4. Reading through all this stuff, why has this never been corrected? Movies and what not never give him credit. I've heard whispers of this, but never seen the evidence I'm reading as I click through and read this stuff. Crazy...
  5. So I just finished my re-read. I believe I started Monday so with all the extra issues in the Ultimate Collections and what not I read 112 issues of this series in 6 days! It never felt like a chore either and I literally had trouble stopping to go do other things. Personally, I think the book meanders a bit after the Viltrumite War storyline. It hits its low point from around 95-101 ish. It picks back up with the whole Nolan issue that intrigues me. I won't spoil it. It is sad that the Everyone Dies storyline was just so awful though. The whole nonsense with Bulletproof and his backstory was really off putting. Kirkman knew it when he broke the wall (something he does a few times) and spoke to the reader. That still didn't help though. I also found issue 99 really lame. It was all huge splash pages. I didn't notice it the first time I read it, but there isn't a single panel. It is like they went lazy in preparation for issue 100 or something. Then 100 was sort of a let down. Those are my only complaints about the entire thing though. The book is just outstanding. The supporting cast almost all intrigue me. Kirkman has done a great job capturing the class super hero book while putting a new, creative spin on it. Mark is a great character, and Kirkman ages him well as the book goes. Kirkman wrote Invincible Universe I would probably read it on a more regular basis, and I'm tempted to buy the few issues I missed. Guardians of the Globe seemed to go in so many directions though. I love Todd Naucks art. I'm excited to see where the book goes with the new development though. So much so that I was pulling up future solicits to see when it was coming out and get some hints about where it is heading. Ok I'm starting to ramble. I'm on the hunt for a copy of issue 1 though. Every time I read the series I go looking but I've never pulled the trigger. I'm officially going to now.
  6. Yea I saw that sale. What a book! Congrats on the pickup.
  7. Oh yea issue 5 set up a ton of stuff! It was interesting. The question is how slow Hickman moves through some of those questions. The issue did answer a lot too though.
  8. I don't know that I disagree with most of your post except the above. I don't feel like we've gotten to know any characters all that much. What makes Death likable? Something about him is intriguing, but I don't find myself pulling for him or liking him.
  9. And you don't think it has gotten good? Granted I think it is all uphill till about 80, but by 23 I was really enjoying it. The first 12 issues were slow but the end sort of left me wanting more.
  10. and..... what do you think of it? I like it so far, but know it gets even better according to everyone telling me so. I can see how the early issues are laying the foundation for something bigger down the road. I think I need to read some tonight (craving it now). R When you say the middle, what issue?
  11. Me too I bought an Invinci' one, but it's not as high a grade (raw) as I would like. Probably a 9.0 book. I'm officially in the hunt for my copy. I've emailed a bunch of people letting them know I'me looking. I'm hoping at Baltimore in September I'll get a copy I've looked numerous times in the past, but never taken the plunge for some reason.
  12. You also have to look at the writer though. People love BKV and he has sold some real stellar books. On the other hand, people seem to have a love/hate relationship with Hickman. His stories, in the past and even now, are very convoluted and sort of slow burn storylines. It is off putting to a lot of people. At the same time, and I've made this argument before, Saga is unique to look at. The artwork and layout of a page are different then anything we see in the market. We aren't seeing that with East of West. The art is solid, but it doesn't look different than anything else beyond the unique scenery. The way Saga uses the page to tell the story and the way it is lettered all are unique. I don't doubt that East of West will do well, but it just isn't going to have the same lasting effect that Saga has on the market. What do I know though...
  13. +1 I like East of West, but I still don't see it hitting Saga like numbers. I've said that a few times in this thread and stuff just gets chucked at me though.
  14. I've been giving this book a lot of love in the Super Hero thread I started. I figured I'd give this thread a bump. I've re-read almost the entire series this week. I think the thing that really strikes me is how unconventional Kirkman is with the plotline in comparison with other books. It never feels like story arcs written for trades, but rather one continuous story. The book is paced and flows so perfectly.
  15. I enjoyed the issue. It brought some clarity in to what is going on and direction for the book. I thought that was really needed.
  16. Love this cover! I talked to Andrew Pepoy, the cover artist at Heroes Con and he said he was surprised at the response to this cover. He told me that he'd sold the cover almost immediately for much cheaper than he should have, and had been fielding e-mail inquiries about it since (mine was one). I did see the original there for his Afterlife with Archie #1 variant which is cool, though much nicer before Archie Comics decided to censor Betty's butt cheek outline... He wouldn't let me take a picture![/url] Let's put it this way... I have never purchased an Archie in my entire life. The most I ever read were the digests while waiting on the supermarket line with my parents when I was a little kid. As soon as you posted this I went over to eBay and picked up a copy for about $8 shipped I think. I was captivated by the cover of this book. Then I text messaged a picture of it to two of my comic collecting friends and one of them immediately headed to eBay to pick one up. He definitely sold the original cover art for probably far less than what he got for it. I pull Archie for my daughter. I've never read it but she enjoys the book (I think...). This cover caught my eye.
  17. 27 and been collecting since I was a little kid.
  18. I've got a Jack Kirby signature on the inside of my Strange Tales #110 and it's a prized posession. There are some sigs that defy the need for an SS designation. Could you imagine the arguments if someone turned up with a Ditko book though. There'd be nothing to really authenticate it from if not CGC SS. It'll never happen though.
  19. Were they bought on base though? It sounded like if they were sold on base then they would have the inserts.
  20. Are the video game inserts from the early 90s rare? I just stumbled on to one. My gut says they are in a ton of books though. They contain advertisements from Sega, Tiger, and Nintendo.
